Are the people that play with mortals aware of how much they

I agree. Its just a game. If people employ their morals when playing games, games like GTA would never sell.

No, it's an action game with stats.

You could call it a RPG - a Role Pretending Game.

I always make a good character first. Then I make an evil character to try out all the options I'd missed as a good character.
For some reason, with every Elder Scrolls game I've played, my good character has always been an Argonian, and my evil character is always an Altmer mage.

Lol, people that play with mortals. I thought this was going to be a thread complaining about how a game called "mortals" svcked compared to skyrim :D
And the dark brotherhood choice is one of the few choices present in skyrim, soo :) Its probably for roleplaying as a goody two shoes character.

Yeah I know, predictive phone texting works great. And it doesn't help that I can't edit my thread title either . I just have to look like a numpty instead.

I agree with your topic and I agree with your post. But I don't think we can play as immortals so I don't know how much I'm missing out.

Having completed the dark brotherhood guild which is probably one of the best out of the thieves and mages. I really don't understand why some people would choose not to follow the dark brotherhood guild based on moral grounds.

yes killing in real life is wrong but this is a game. so why do you apply real world morals to a game that offers a really good gaming experience.

Because as well as the brotherhood being a rather good story you also get given some really great items along the way. So I really don't get why you would want to pass up on so many great things all because of real world morals.

Silly question.

Just because it`s not real doesn`t mean we do what`s personally uncomfortable to us or just does not meet with what we wish to do.

Contrary to your belief, a LOT of people play these kind of games to be the classical HERO. Murdering and killing innocents does not meet with that view, even if you think your `cool` because you happily do it to rebel against life or whatever. So don`t make the mistake of pushing your ethos on someone else.

Dovahkiin is essential code in the TalOS operating system. The Thalmor are hacking in all quarters, but the firewalls are up.
The Thalmor are getting serious help from the Chinese, who violate international treaties to reverse engineer those firewalls from defenseless American slaves' intellectual property! Talk about playing with no morals! Yet what does the empire do? NOTHING! Nay, worse than nothing...

"The Imperial Machine enforces the will of the Chinese Hive Mind, against their own people!"

Time to rise up! XD

Well, I actually specifically went after the Dark Brotherhood as a totally self-inflicted self-managed vigilante 'Side quest' of mine. Trying to shake up the power structure in Riften, taking out the assassin's on a certain person's take is one way to do that that the game will actually recognize.

That said, I actually had a lot of fun with the questline in Oblivion. I actually made it a point to make the most infamous character I possibly could without resorting to senseless mass murder.

Is why most people do an everyman do everything first character, then later after they did everything they limit themselves to vary the game.

I'm missing out on a lot of content(Not bothered, My choice) due to the fact i play as myself & don't find any satisfaction in killing people on a whim(For christs sake Bethesda, When an enemy yields let them yield) or intimidating a shop keeper to pay up to the thieves guild.

Discounting the DB obviously, it's such a shame that to succeed in the Thieves Guild you have to be a complete arsehole which does not allow you to be a Robin Hood type thief.

Yes it's a game, However these type of games tend to be roleplayed & personal morals do play a part, Although i don't wear a flower in my hair or hug any of the trees in Skyrim i really like to play as a nice person.

Maybe it's because this is my third Elder Scrolls game, but this time I'm actually doing the opposite. I've already decided to never join either the thieves guild or Dark Brotherhood, despite how much my character's skills might jive there, for character reasons, and I have vague plans for a future character that will go full tilt with those quests, similar to a completely immoral character I made in Oblivion. I also only did the College quests far enough in to get an item I needed for a side quest, and have no real intention of returning. I'm perfectly happy keeping actual direct magic a weakness of Draug Stonefist. But I already have plans for a Harry Dresden homage character who will go full tilt there, but ignore all other guilds.

It's not my own morals that restrain me (I'm a nihilist in real life), but those of my character. Some of my characters have no problem with the Dark Brotherhood. Others do.

I got pissed by the way Astrid "got in touch" with me. She told me I couldn't leave, untill there had been made a kill, so I killed her. Beheaded the nagging lady in the middle of the three captives, and released the two others. Now I am on my way to take out the rest of the dark brotherhood. Because they've been trying to kill me for a long time now. Sending assassins after me.

Roleplaying, or some people might not think the DB questline is that fun or interesting - that's just an opinion when you get down to it.

Wait, you let the sixual assualting (oh the joys of censorship) murderer go? Huh.

I've yet to start a character suitable for the Dark Brotherhood. I will, eventually. Although I prefer the TG from a real life perspective. The story is just more interesting, the ability to summon the Spectral Assassin aside.

You are confusing "unaging" with "Immortal" - I've killed a lot of vampires...

Well the goodie-two-shoes types can play along enough to get into the sanctuary to get the Marked for Death shout, then kill off all the assassins and call it a day.

I'm terribly self righteous and because of that I find it hard to be fake, even in a video game. I believe killing is wrong in my every day life, however in Skyrim I am a little more accept of killing, but only if I believe it would make the world a better place. An example is I'll kill Grelod the Kind because of what she does to those kids, and because her name is misleading. However when presented with the situation for joining the Dark Brotherhood I'll end up killing Astrid because the situation she places me in is immoral.

If I spend the whole game killing everyone and everything I eventually become desensitized to my character.

It's a simple answer

People like to role-play a good person, therefore do not join the DB

Swearing yourself to the void conflicts with the worship of Hircine or Nocturnal. Characters don't need to be goodie-goodies to have no interest in joining the Dark Brotherhood.
