Are there dragons in this game?

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 11:11 pm

I mean that, not as much of a troll as you think. I am over 36 hours into the game now and have not seen a single Dragon since the one in which afterward you 'discover' that you are the Dragonborn. Now, to be fair, I have since avoided the main story and have probably spent 1/3 of my time in dungeons BUT, I know I heard Todd Howard say there would be roaming Dragons as well as the story-based spawns. I am frankly disappointed that I am level 22 and haven't seen another Dragon yet.

Roaming dragons do not start to spawn until you've advanced in the main storyline to a certain point. You don't even have to get really far, just play the main storyline a little bit and they will come.

thats odd, dragons in my games are worst then cliff racers! they pop up in cities, out in the open, while catching butterflies....
if you really want to find a dragon, there are several places on the map that show up as a dragon head, go there and fight a dragon, usually you will get a word there as well

He said he's found the first one that reveals you are dragonborn. That's the point in the main storyline you have to get to spawn the random dragons.

OP, do you mostly use fast travel, or when exploring, do you use roads more often than not? Those two points can contribute to a lack of dragons.

I run into dragons all the damned time. And I'm at the same point as you, right after killing the first dragon in the Main Quest.

That's all you need for dragons to spawn, but they're completely random.

I definitely fast-travel if I am going back to somewhere I've been a bunch of times. Like Whiterun, I will always fast-travel there from now on. I've been in the area around it, to and from it, too many times now. I've walked a really long damn ways however, from the as far West as I could get to as far Southeast. I was exploring (and loving it, don't get me wrong), I was just also hoping to see a Dragon. I did hear something, that I assumed was a Dragon once, but spent twenty minutes searching the skies and surrounding area (even stopped sneaking) but it was fruitless.

I've gotten a handful of bounties for bandits, none for dragons. I don't think they're in my game lol

Talk to guards, sometimes they'll tell you about dragons.
Use shouts in public areas and couriers will be dispatched to tell you about word walls, some of which are guarded by dragons.

It took about 20 hours into my game before I encountered my first random dragon. After that they've just cropped up everywhere. It sounds like you've just had some really bad luck.

Because they decided to make the main player "Dragonborne" for nothing. ;)
Try making a new character, get to the same point in the main quest (the first dragon) then just walk around for maybe 30 minutes to an hour and see if you find any dragons. Usually if I come out of a cave and start walking, I'll find one rather quickly.
Might just be your save file being screwy. Is it a save file you had pre-1.2patch and are trying to play now? MIGHT have something to do with it, might not. Pulling that out of my ass... but hey, it's a suggestion!

As far as random dragon encounters go... After the quest that you were talking about, I didn't encounter dragons until about 14 hours after. But then they started to spawn a good bit.

When I signed up I didn't plan on so many Dragons. (I'm at Level 12 - whatever that means). I mostly follow a quest or two and then roam around with my lovely (but sarcastic) Lydia. We just trek the countryside or the mountains. Sometimes I can see a Dragon flying far far from where we are. My greatest fear is when I hear the dreaded Beasts ROAR and the entire atmosphere changes. The hair on the back of my head (I really have no neck) stands up on end.

My adrenaline starts pumping and my palms sweat (I almost drop my bow). Lydia fires arrows (while I try to get a letter off to mom).

OH! the horror? OH! The GLORY! Another dragon taken down (thanks, again L. for assistance).

So, Yes there are Dragons. (Just don't let them creep into you dreams.)

Nope no dragons in this game, just the occasional flying pigs and jigglypuffs.

OP, it appears as though your game takes place in an alternate Skyrim where your first dragon shout killed every dragon that was.

You unlock them early on if you talk to the right people.

Spoiler
I followed that woman out of Whiterun, and she was walking so slow I was yelling at her the whole time. Finally, she told me to leave her alone when I got close, so I was like, "Fine, jeez!" and walked off. I ran into her and the others later...they and the dragon had been waiting several hours for me.

I wonder if I'm the only person keeping a log of her dragons? I started because a couple of the run-ins were complete clusterfarks and I wanted to remember how they'd gone. I doubt I'll be able to keep it up, though.

My first one in the wild, on the second try, I spent the first part of it trying to find an unlocked house to hide in. Some dragonborn heroine I am...

I hunted dragons in my first play through they would see me, and fly away crying HAH not really but would make a fun tail

but seriously I did the main quest I encountered dragons everywhere (I always used fast travel) I did the war, and joined the legion, and every time I went to a legion camp I had at LEST one dragon one camp in the rift I had a frost, and blood dragon swoop in .

but my first play through dragons where like the cliff racers in Morrowind for me. I played 76 hours and done most of the quests.

I finally got bored with the raciest remarks against my high elf and am now a nord :) haah fun times .

I have been pestered by so many dragons that I want to mod a craftable dragon swatter to splat those pesty over grown flies. The first 10 times it was really neat, now its just oh gee, another dragon coming to spew fire-frost, land and die. I really am not complaining, it just loses its wow factor fast. It would be nice if there were more variants of dragons and their behavior though.

Seriously? Do I have to shout an NPC or just "in the sky"? :obliviongate:
