Armor Classes

The more leather armors, the better. They are the best looking armor in every game, IMO. I hope they go a step further than the reinforced and have an awesome heavy leather armor. That would be amazing.

That would kick-ass thick leather with pounded out steel platelets all over, I'd love to see something like that included hopefully our prayers will be answered. (I wouldn't mind having both sleeves of my jacket either) :tops:

Armor does follow linear DT progressions upward, but outfits are now divided into Light/Medium/Heavy classes. Light moves without any movement penalty, Medium with some, and Heavy with more. Of course, some armor types come with their own built-in bonuses and penalties. I think there are compelling reasons to use different armor types, even toward the high end.

My question is what does he mean by "movement penalties"? The most obvious interpretation would be movement speed, but that doesn't seem to be enough to dissuade the player from being a walking tank (at least not by itself). I wonder if "movement penalty" doesn't translate to overall Action Points, Action Point regeneration, Sneak and other skill usage or melee attack speed?

It says medium next to condition not heavy. And why is dr listed on the top as 0? I thought dr has been removed?

He probably meant Reinforced, as that is how it's listed in the pip-boy.

Reinforced leather armor will be in the medium category for dt going by that pic. What's the deal with the dr 0 stat at the top though? Isn't dr gone?

yeah, josh brought it up a little bit ago he said it was in the game in some of the earlier previews due to a bug. So it should be gone.

I don't think there are really armor classes anymore. Different armors have different effects on your stealth capabilities and movement speed/jumping height, but that's about it as far as I can tell.

It seems like the armor class really only effects movement speed. Obviously though, higher armor classes will generally protect you more.

I'm sure some armors have better versions, but when it gets to things like Power Armor, there aren't going to be tiers. The whole Leather Armor/Reinforced Leather Armor is its own thing that won't apply to many other armors.

Aye...i like leather armor too, does seem to look the best in most games :)

Off topic: I also noticed the sniper scope has red dots now instead of just black lines, that was a pain in the [censored] sometimes in fallout 3,you could'nt always see the centre of the scope.
Because i like sniping,i'm really glad they have sorted that out :)

what the hell, was that a joke? I got two gay guys kissing..

I see what you mean.

I may be being a pic nitpicky here, but the armour's look a bit too... clean? They need to rough them up a bit, make 'em look more rugged.

As for that video that loooool posted, that held some bad omens for the AI. It looked positively terrible. Especially the fight between the PC and the 2nd legion guy when the PC held the shotgun.

Alright since I'm planning to have 7 Strength so I probably won't be down right awful at shooting it. :tops:

When I hear "requirement" I usually think that means the bottom line to use, I guess in this case its the bottom line to use at the most effectiveness.

If Fallout 1, 2 & Tactics are anything to go by while you can use a weapon which has a higher strength requirement than your own strength, you get penalised for each point of strength you are below the requirement, so to use the quoted comment you can still use the weapon but not quite as effectively as you could if you had a strength of 8. I would go as far to say that while you won't be as effective you won't be down right awfull with it, I think the down right awfull would be if you tried to use it with a strength of 4 or lower especially with a low firearms skill in conjunction to that.

Back to the topic at hand, if you look at the light, medium & heavy armour types in the historical PnP (Pen and Paper) RPG context, then the likes of your leather armour will fall under the Light category, Combat Armour probably Medium, Metal Armour may be around the low Heavy or high Medium and Power Armour is definately Heavy Armour. Basically the more protection and more restrictive to your movement an armour is the higher up the 'grading' it is, at least using the definition set I mentioned.
Or to look at the armour 'weight/protection' categories another way, you could say that Light Armour equates to little/no protection or 'Mummy he's got a peashooter, I'm gonna die'. Medium Armour is reasonable protection or 'Hah he's got a 9mm, do your worst and I'll survive'. Heavy Armour is High/obscene protection or 'Ohh he's got a minigun, I could do with a nice refreshing lead shower'
The 'comments' are meant to be somewhat tongue in cheek to try to highlight the differences between the armour types in a somewhat overblown way.

Well if the Reinforced Leather Armor is Medium, I'm guessing that good ol' normal Leather Armor will probably be Light. :tops:
