If you're on PC there are plenty of mods that allow arrow crafting and fletching. Some are really great and give a nice use for all the ore you collect during your travels

the fact of feather being rare is a good thing, they arent unbearably rare i run into hagraven often enough that it would keep me supplied with arrows and mages and alchemist have them all ways of gaining feathers, as for rarity this as ive said is a good thing, this is ecause it would stop the "rinse and repeat" method of just spamming arrow construction to gain smithing skills, i thought this through people

Or hawks

The Silver Hand carry around hawk feathers a lot, I don't think they'll hand them over willingly though!!

Well the feathers would be the reason they have to die.
But the Silver Hand only have a part in the Companions quest right no part after right, I have not done that quest yet.

They still exist after you've defeated them, but they don't have anything with any other stories. You may get sent to their hideouts by the Radiant AI though.

And the reason for the Silver Hand carrying feathers is because of their ability to cure disease. They're paranoid about getting lycanthropy, so they always carry either a potion of cure disease, or the ingredients to one.

Ok thanks for clearing that up I am glad that the enemies stay around after the quest to have some variety which is a good thing.
Them having the feathers then will make them a good choice to hunt them if they have arrow crafting they would probably be the best targets so that is sonething to consider.

skyrims alpha, hello.

okay okay i like to play assassin a lot, either that or mage lol but sticking with assassin i use a bow, lie most people, and i like powerful arrows like deadric, which are rarer than a break dancing giants all i want really is to use, lets say a iron ingot and firewood and a feather, this could in turn give me around 20 iron arrows and if i could do this with rarers arrows it would make playing much more fun, just an idea which has bugged me since my second playthrough, when skyrim was young,

not sure if this topic has been brought up before but its been a long time and something needs changing

Peace

I second this.

fletching is a rather good idea, I think they shouldve added this from the gecko.

They could always add "chicken feathers" or just make more hawks and/or wild chickens or other birds exist throughout the game world. That would solve the feather issue. After that, the ore, ingots, firewood, and special ingredients (i.e. daedra hearts) would be a simple matter. Though daedra hearts would still be very rare, which would mean daedric arrows would still be extremely rare and valuable, which is good. I would hope it would be something like 20-40 arrows per craft, and then perhaps they could be properly enchanted with destcructive magic effects after that. A system like that should have been in place since the game was made......

Also, if the crafting of bolts info is true, I would like a link to that interview, if someone has it. That sounds awesome, but I just haven't seen that video anywhere yet.

Yes, crafting bolts is in. If memory serves me well it's on Todd's first or second E3 interview. Was it g4tv's, gametrailers'? Can't be sure.

but if they did make feather much more common, it would create another exploit like the iron dagger, unless off course you gain 0 xp for fletching, which i seriously doubt,

So would you be able to upgrade smithed arrows also? That would be both crazy and very time consuming - but i would still do it just because i can  .

I use a simple arrow fletching mod I made for myself in the Creation Kit in a half an hour so it's very easy to add this type of functionality into the game, the question is if they want to add it in. The game as released was obviously intended to have the high-end arrows be fairly to very rare so they perhaps didn't originally intend for you to able to craft them by design rather than as a simple oversight.

I use hawk feathers, hagraven feathers and quills as part of my feather requirement in my mod if you're at all curious btw. They're uncommon but certainly not rare, especially if you go into certain caves or alchemy shops with the intention of collecting those types of feathers for use in arrow crafting as opposed to alchemy as they're usually used. Or just head to Solitude and practice your aim, heh.

Add in some ingots and firewood and done - simple arrow fletching, adds a lot to my archer characters to be able to use otherwise useless ignots and mining opportunities to create useful ammo for my bows. We'll just have to wait and see if they are going to add it in officially in the future.

Hawk Feathers from Hawks. 3 drop per kill, but hawks are extremely rare.
They could start selling them in shops or something.
