Ask the mods 7/22/11

I've seen the first one quite a bit and when I first saw it I couldn't stop laughing. I've never seen "I am not funny" though. What's that for?

It replaces I am not funny.

Is it stressful being a mod, or is it just sorta like 'ololo, lock ban warn'?

Anyone ever get a job through these forums? :P

Yes, well, they certainly helped in any case. There are moments were moderators here became employees of Betheda. Infact, it happened multiple times with Kathode, Dalin, Locklear93 and so on. Although Kathode and Dalin aren't at Bethesda any longer.

There are also several moments where people gotten into the game industry thanks to their Morrowind/Oblivion mods, although not necessarily at Bethesda.

how old where yall when ya became a mod

21.

Been sitting with my questions for 45 minutes now... Here goes!

Are any of you interested/participating in game development of any form?

What amount was the most gold you had at once in morrowind?

Brunettes or blondes (possibly soul-less gingers even :whistling: )?

How big and how full is your HDD?

Bubble sort or quick sort?

And last but not least; Facebook, good or bad?

- Nope
- 250k or so
- Don't care
- 1 tb, third full

How many languages can you speak ?

2

Whats the worst kind of trouble you got into when you weren't a moderator on these forums?

Off the top of your heads, what are the odds that a banned member will rejoin the forums? How do you guys combat against this?

Which Bethesda game are you the most knowledgeable in?

- I got warned twice for being an overly enthusiastic spammerposter in the first 6 months after I joined. :ooo:
- You're not getting our secrets that easily!
- I used to know a lot about Morrowind.

Where do you work? Is your day job interesting?

I work at a large publisher of educational material where I try my best to corrupt the children of today and the proffesionals of tomorrow. Yes, that's fun. :goodjob:

What (if any) pets do you mods have or have once had?
What gaming platforms do you own? Which ones do you play games on the most?

- I want to say two Newfoundlander dogs and a cat, but it's really my parents who have them. It's a good reason to visit, though! :hehe:
- PC and Xbox360. I play most on the 360 but prefer playing on the PC.

Can you ban yourself?

Coke or Pepsi or it doesn't matter or no soda?

If I gave you $100 (USD) would you want it in:1 $100 bill, 2 $50 bills, 5 $20 dollar bills, or 100 $1 dollar bills?

Gasoline powered car or Diesel powered car?

Which one do you prefer Gas grill or Charcoal grill?

- Don't think we can.
- Doesn't matter, but I hardly ever drink soda.
- Two 50 bills
- Gasoline
- Charcoal is the only way.

Do you use Console or PC?
Micheal Jackson or Prince?
Favourite game studio other than Bethesda?
Favourite game franchise?
Old forum layout or new?

- Both
- MJ if I had to choose.
- Blizzard
- TES, Diablo, Warcraft (barring WoW), StarCraft
- I'm used to this now and can barely remember what I ate yesterday, let alone an old forum layout. So this.

What (if any) pets do you mods have or have once had?

I've always had dogs. Currently I have a mixed breed, looks a bit like a black lab.

What gaming platforms do you own? Which ones do you play games on the most?

PC and various old consoles. The PC is the only one I use regularly.

Can you ban yourself?

It requires a bit of witchcraft but yes. There are ways.

What was your first job?

If you weren't a moderator today, would you still be on these forums?

Selling Christmas trees.

Probably, but not nearly as much.

Wired or wireless?

Bacon or ham? OR Canadian bacon!

Lava lamp or plasma lamp?

Paper plates or ceramic plates?

Times New Roman or Arial?

Natural light or artificial light?

What are ya'lls bedtimes? Usually around 2-3 AM, but it varies.

When was your first smooch? At 14.

Approximately how many members have you banned?(Am I allowed to ask this?) Dunno about exact numbers, but 150 maybe.

SilverEagle: how old where yall when ya became a mod
31

Colonel Martyr: Are the mods real or highly intelligent AI whose bodies are made of silicon as opposed to flesh and blood like us petty plebians?
I'd like to think I'd be a better-shaped silicon if I was!

hellbreaker: Are any of you interested/participating in game development of any form?
What amount was the most gold you had at once in morrowind?
Brunettes or blondes (possibly soul-less gingers even :whistling: )?
How big and how full is your HDD?
Bubble sort or quick sort?
And last but not least; Facebook, good or bad?

No - it's bad enough when you work on a huge modding project and sometimes it just feels like a chore. Imagine NOT having the choice to say "I don't feel like doing this today"!
About 150,000, but I'm a habitual cheater
I have something of a redhead fetish - I always do a double-take when I see someone with red hair and dye my own red. Him Indoors is blonde, though - but he DOES look a hell of a lot like Dave Mustaine.
450gb of which 75gb is free. Eep!
No idea what bubble sort is
Facebook = good

Wyatt Waste Ranger:
Whats your favorite cheese?
Beer, liquor, or wine?
What kind?

I love most cheeses, but at the moment it's Applewood smoked cheddar
I'll drink pretty much anything - but right now I can't because I'm preggers

Ratslayer: How many languages can you speak ?
Three, but my French and German is VERY rusty

Skoomaholics Anonymous: Can mods see through the [censored] things?
No.

Master Cat: Are you angry because there are no spears in Skyrim?
No. I don't really think they belong in Skyrim, tbh

Lyriel:
Best recipe you created? (The Lasagna Queen is disqualified, she's a ringer & it's not fair)
Most useful hand tool you own?
Longest continuous game session without sleep?
What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow (careful...)
Why do you answer these questions?

Recipe - my own beef hotpot
Tool - pen
Game session - 9 hours
Is that an African or European swallow?
Boredom

What (if any) pets do you mods have or have once had?

What gaming platforms do you own? Which ones do you play games on the most?

Used to have rabbits.
Xbox 360 and PC - prefer PC

Do you use Console or PC?
Micheal Jackson or Prince?
Favourite game studio other than Bethesda?
Favourite game franchise?
Old forum layout or new?

Both, mostly PC
Prince
Bioware
Elder Scrolls, followed by Mass Effect
Old

3 questions guys.

Have the mods ever had a get together in real life?

Have you guys been able to meet the staff of Bethesda?

And do you know of any people who became couples on this site?

No - though I met Attrebus
Met a couple of them
Yes

(How do you spell immersive? Is it even a word? I've been changing the spelling to see if my spell checker will pick it up, but no luck)

you spelled it right

What was your first job?

If you weren't a moderator today, would you still be on these forums?

Data entry for a music copyright agency
yes

I've seen the first one quite a bit and when I first saw it I couldn't stop laughing. I've never seen "I am not funny" though. What's that for?

Russian Reversal jokes.

Why do you answer these questions?

HD!! Go and hug that cutie pie of a son(?) from your beard pic in thread #1 before he grows up! He really is adorable. My 6 year old niece would wub him, she's a svcker for blonds with cool monstuh toe puppets.

My crepe batter is to die for.

My keychain leatherman. I have a softspot in my hear for my jigsaw but I'll admit I don't use it nearly as often as my cordless powerdrill.

No clue, but I do remember a ridiculously long AvP DM/co-op session with my roommate in college once.

One swallow unit/km

If I don't the community managers will poke me, they've got a stick

Ha! He used to have a playgroup at the nearby kid's museum and the regulars consisted of him and three girls. All of them new his name and would apparently talk about him outside of the playgroup so one of the father's started calling him Rockstar Asher. :)

What (if any) pets do you mods have or have once had?

What gaming platforms do you own? Which ones do you play games on the most?

We currently have one very fluffy longhaired cat. Growing up we had dogs, cats, an aquarium, an iguana, and my sister has a small bird for a short while.

I own a PC. Back at my parents' house is a working NES hooked up to a working Commodore 64.

Without insulting an admin's mother? No really. Mods, admin, and devs don't have warning bars. (At least, not warning bars we can access, but I suspect even the system admin can't ban us without revoking out moderator status).

Coke Lime, but I'm really more of a root bear beer person

Tens, ha!

Do you use Console or PC?
Micheal Jackson or Prince?
Favourite game studio other than Bethesda?
Favourite game franchise?
Old forum layout or new?

The last console I owned was that NES I mentioned above.

Neither

Extant? Valve, I've lost many hours to Portal, Portal 2, and TF2. The Half Life series is mind-numbingly linear but I feel with the Episodes this was balanced by emphasizing the story more. In terms of past studios, Looking Glass.

Thief.

Which old forum layout, the black and white UBB? The purple and ivory UBB? The green UBB? The redone green UBB? The original IPB? The first major IPB upgrade? The second major IPB upgrade? The recent major IPB upgrade? You need to be more specific. (I don't have any problems with the current forum set up, the purple and ivory one was the worst)

What was your first job?

If you weren't a moderator today, would you still be on these forums?

College Resident Assistant

Yes

I don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but I was wondering how you became mods. Is there a specific way, or is it just people who are active and helpful. I'm not asking because I want to be a mod or anything. I'm just curios.

There's a post of mine near the beginning of the first thread that goes into this in depth.

One more thing I just need to know:

Who killed Kennedy?

Do any of you play CoD?

I don't eat fish, and if I did I don't play with my food. Actually the only seafood I really eat is shrimp, although my wife did make some good crabcakes with an immitation crap/shrimp mix last week. I love shrimp however so I feel it balances out.

I don't believe I've played and contemporary military FPSs, the genre doesn't interest me.

Well, we used to have cool ones, but for some reason they were taken away. I wasn't a mod then, so I don't know the whole story.

For example:
Spotted Owl was for a three letter word that also stands for a triangle (with three known measurements) which cannot be proven to be similar to another.
Noble Seamstress was for a female of a certain type of mammal often kept as a pet.

We still have some specific ones though:
really devoted fan
I am not funny

There were a few factors. At the time gay was in the autocensor because we had a lot of people misusing it, but we couldn't come up with a good replacement. A number of people complained and I believe this was the straw that broke the camel's back. However I suspect it would have happened anyway as the admin made the forums more professional.

Who's the first moderator ever to be on this forum?

What did you like when you became a moderator?

What do most moderators like to do on your spare time when your on the forums?

My last question is. Do you love what you do on a every basis on the forums?

These are just some of my questions i been wondering. :tops:

Kathode and Dalinn were the first two mods. They also ran the two largest Morrowind fansites, Destination Morrowind and Morrowind Summit (the latter of which is now Planet Elderscrolls), and Kathode had interned at Bethesda. They were added in the summer of 2002, the second group was added in late August 2002 and included myself, Locklear, Archeopteryx, Hermetic, and Lady Eternity. Freddo was added a bit after that, and I believe Tegger was the next after him.

At the time the forums were really hurting, there were some major problems in General Discussion (the OT forum at the time) and I was happy to try and help the community. A few weeks later GD was actually closed because it continued to spiral out of control and it was ~18 months before it was reopened. During that time OT discussions weren't allowed.

Spare time on the forums? If I don't have any moderating to do I may even respond to threads :D

Moving threads svcks. It's easy to do, particularly compared to the old UBB forums (which didn't leave a redirect so you had to PM the OP), but it's still annoying.

Pulled pork. But out of those bacon.

Sunlight.

Ceramic.

Tahoma. Of those Arial.

Natural.

I should go to bed at 10:00, that would be very responcible of me.

Late winter 2001.

I have no clue.

Sometimes specific situations can be very frustrating, even stressful, but as a whole if it gets to be too much we can ease back individually.

Badgers

I have a moderately lengthed trimmed beard, there's a link to an old picture in the other thread.

Whats the name?

We have no idea - the little pickle kept his or her legs crossed during the scan! (and since they're pretty happy with how things are going, there aren't going to be any more scans.) So, the name's Pickle at the moment. We can't agree on a boy's name, so I guess I'm hoping for a girl, though either's cool with me.

Robot/Zombie/Nuclear/Alien-Apocalypse?

What are your thoughts on facial hair? Clean shaven, a stubble, a little thick or wild-man beard?

I think an alien apocalypse would be the most interesting, though I prefer my weekends apocalyse-free.
I prefer clean-shaven because I got a friction-rash around my mouth once from kissing someone with a beard. Some people look very cute with a goatee, and a little bit of stubble can sometimes make a man look more rugged. It's down to what suits the individual.

Asher kept his legs crossed until three days before he was born. Funny enough we had a great name agreed upon for a boy but couldn't come up with a good name for a girl. (Asher's middle name is the first name of my paternal grandfather and my wife's paternal grandfather - you can't do much better than that).

I'm not sure about the best recipe I've made. There have been a lot of good ones and bad ones. I do a mean shrimp scampi though.

I don't deprive myself of sleep these days so 10 hours or so I guess. Which is far too much time in one day but I did it 10 hours a day for days and days, weeks and weeks.

Best I ever did was a Pineapple Glazed Ham. My cooking skills leave something to be desired. Thank the Nine my BIL is a master chef!

The 80s, Astrosmash, played from dusk till dawn. We'd neglected letting the dog out to relieve himself during our marathon. After we finally quit the game and headed for bed, that dog peed on the console! Smart dog. :goodjob:

Yep, he's in BIG trouble down the road. It's the hair... and the toe puppets. B)

Where do you work? Is your day job interesting?

I'm a personal assistant to a retired teacher and not-retired artist. I wouldn't say it's so interesting, at least as a subject of conversation.

What (if any) pets do you mods have or have once had? What gaming platforms do you own? Which ones do you play games on the most?

Cats, always cats. I like dogs, but I need cats in my life.

Gaming platforms: PC and many old consoles- Dreamcast, SNES, PS1, PS2, and buncha handhelds. Had a 360, but it melted. :D I mostly play on the PC, but my Nintendo DS is the runner up. Lately our PSP has been getting a workout as I just beat P3P on it, and am now playing FFT War of the Lions.

Micheal Jackson or Prince?Favourite game studio other than Bethesda?Favourite game franchise?Old forum layout or new?

I'll go with Michael Jackson if only for "Off The Wall", but neither really does anything for me. Favorite game studio besides Bethesda: Hmmm, probably Vanillaware. Old forum layout or new: I can't recall the old one in great detail, so let's say new!

What was your first job? Makin' pizza.

If you weren't a moderator today, would you still be on these forums? Oh, definitely.
