ATI Catalyst Driver Updates Making FO: NV Smooooooooth...

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:02 pm

(Sorry to double post) But when it comes to installing said Hotfix... Do i need to uninstall my regular drivers, or do i just install them over the 10.10 drivers i already have?

4 better results, yes, 1. uninstall, restart PC; 2 install new driver(10.10.c hotfix), restart PC

Since I don't want to mess anything up, is this for Windows Vista too, or just for 7?

After installing the oct 28 update of 10.10c hotfix, without using d3d9 i'm still getting the slide show. So, back to the dll fix.

I also want to bump AA back up

As is..
19x12
2 to 4 AA
16 AF
V-sync on
Ultra
HDR
60 fps//

Without dll...half that.

I'm sorry (I don't mean to be rude) but this is foolishness.
Now let me get this straight:
You wish to run at 1920x1200 (16:10)
4xAA 16xAF
Ultra settings/HDR etc.
and you want to have vsync ON!
Friend, to be able to run with vsync on, your framerate must never drop below 60fps.
Now, no wonder you are using that dopey d3d9.dll which spoofs the vidcard into the year 2008.
Because nobody can run those settings without dropping below 60fps, LoL!
Come to reality.
But wait, maybe I missed something - what do you have, HD5970 or GTX480 x 2?
And you're not done yet, you want 8xAA heheh...
And you're acting like it's all perfectly normal and you should get everything easily.
Well it's not and it isn't, and you're wrong. People come to these forums to see what's 'normal' and what others are experiencing.
So it's important to note that yours is an oddball situation!
It takes a manly vidcard to run at 1920x1200 (an unusual size, bigger that the 1080 typically used) in the first place.
With ultra settings, water etc. I dunno. Maybe you could pull it off but unlikely LoL.
But 8x AA!? Certainly not without the phoney .dll, heheh...
Although Tommy's tests have shown you will lose only ~10 fps at 8xAA (less than I would have thought) I still say you don't have 10fps to spare.
Remember, you can't drop below 60fps at any time.
So I hope you have a serious vidcard setup...?
Regards

Might want to ask next time before you jump from the deep end....

As of this moment I am playing New Vegas..

19x 12 ( 24 inch Ultra Sharp )
4 AA
16 AF
Ultra
HDR
V-sync on

60 fps....( and no dx9.dll )

60 fps..

I can play FO3 at 8 AA with those settings. ( And still get 60 fps )

I can max Metro 2033 on my rig...

I have a 5970.... 2 of them in fact,,,but 2 is overkill for any game.

And I play all games with V-sync on...and AA as high as possible.

You know why ? Because my rig can handle it.

My problem is that New Vegas should run just as good as FO 3 does and not have hitches and stuttering and fps drops.....all gone now with new drivers.... Like butter...

Your the one who needs to come back to earth if you don't think a rig can run New Vegas at those settings...( or maybe it's envy )

Mine does...want to come over and watch ?

Did you try uninstalling/reinstalling all ATI software? Plus using a program such as driver sweeper?

You and me both. :) No micro-stutter either. :celebration: (This is huge for me. Drives me nuts.) Admittedly with some community fixes applied but the game looks great.

So I'm runing a single 5850 with an AMD Phenom quad core 3.4 (?) so it's no slouch at runin NV but I do see a little lag in Vegas with all the lights. I've got my settings on ultra (thats how it installed) but I'm really not sure the LOD is right A lot of large objects draw at a relatively short range so I watch them fade in. The game chose the settinmgs and everything is maxxed but I really expected better. This is 10 times the machine that I played FO3 on at medium settings with some of the LOD sliders turned up a bit.

Will this driver do me any good? I have not installed that D3D9 mod.

I wanna little comment about the 10.10 & 10.10c hot-fix....10.10 4 FNV not so good and we have problem with NPC(when 5-7 NPC around u) game goes little slide-show, but situation change when we play with 10.10c hot-fix except one: still slide-show when around 5-7 NPC, this is not good :cryvaultboy:

Try the appropriate "dll fix" link in my sig. It's help many of us with the NPC issue.

It is safe. (Been scanned by many here, myself included.)

It will say you have a different GPU than you really do in the launcher but that is what it's supposed to do. Just set it up after it auto scans to the settings you feel should work for your system.

Good luck. :)

Are people seeing improvement with this hotfix driver that aren't using crossfire?

The driver update worked wonders for me. The game even runs so well that I decided to tweak it beyond maximum settings.

Just a tip for crossfire users with 64-bit systems (see last post): http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=279&threadid=108785&STARTPAGE=2&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear
It was initially a fix for Fallout 3, but doing the same for Fallout NV fixed some graphical issues (flickering and odd lighting) and increased the performance for me.
