In a day where most people have at least a GTX 260 or better, a full-res texture pack would be sweet. Should have done this from the start.
Skyrim, shadows aside, does not need a top of the line computer.

It runs beautifully on my two and half years old laptop. These days most 'multimedia' laptops, even affordable ones, comes with 1GB of video memory and a 6750/6770 processor which is more than enough for running skyrim at a 1360x768 resolution, the standard for a 15.4" screen.

Textures distributed with the game are very low res. Most of them are 256x256 or 512x512 which is more typical of a 2002-2003 game. I can tell you that if they distribute a hires parch that ups the resolution to 1024x1024, 1Gb is still more than enough.

Because it's a lot easier, cleaner, and most importantly better looking to have the original high res textures than it is having a modder upscale existing textures or substitute textures that don't go to the game but are "similar" looking.

And we can all enjoy it. On the PC.

And if it's DLC, it better sure as hell be free, because they haven't earned the right to charge for DLC yet as far as I'm concerned. That comes after they fix the current game.
This, most high res texture packs is retexture as simply scaling up the existing texture has little impact. Now retextures can often be better but other times you disagree with the art style or it simply does not fitt the rest of the game. Now an official high resolution pack will also make retexturing easer.

That is a bug. It would be a prettier bug with a higher polycount, but it would still look pretty much the same.

Ok, I'm gonna think differently here for a moment. Let's say it is an in game item, what would it be? I could think that it's the Floating Island that the Woman in Whiterun says the Sleeping Tree came from.

Well "a special surprise with it" suggests, via use of the word "with," some relation to "it." That's usually how English works.

You've speaken english before, haven't you? :hehe:

Well, this is anohter lose-lose situation for Bethesda. If it's something PC related, console players will complain about PC players getting special treatment, if it's something console related, PC player will complain about consles getting special treatment. And due to the exclusivety deal, if it's a DLC announcement, it would make both PC and PS3 player s complain :lmao:

Maybe we'll get really lucky and it'll be Todd Howard's resignation letter.

Don't tease me like that.

Why's that, is the actual unarchived texture higher res?

It's a pretty resilient "bug" if it is like that every time I see it, with different colorswaps.

And that's just one example out of many.

I am pretty sure its been discovered that its a high resolution texture pack. Also, the textures were likely created in higher resolution and scaled back originally. The textures were probably withheld until the game was stabilized in the mass market.
I hope not, high resolution texture pack would mean a big loss of performance, especially if we are forced to use it. I've had the worst trouble stabilizing my game as it is. I want to be able to play it for a long time on my current computer; I don't have any money to spend on a new machine.

I, for one, hope it IS the HD res pack. I still was having some issues with random CTD. It seemed to be related to the resolution mods I had picked up-when I removed 'em, things worked- and I finally just stopped playing to wait until the CK came out so we could get some better integrated HD res packs. Maybe Tuesday I can get back to playing again after a month off....

The surprise had better be more than just DLC announcement, it had better be the DLC. The game has been out for over 2 months now. That is plenty of time to make a decent DLC. It doesn't have to be a huge DLC like Shivering Iles, but some sort of DLC should be coming out by now.

Todd has already stated in an interview that they'll be doing less but larger DLC along the lines of Shivering Isles, in that sense it is too early for a DLC to be released, and imo it's to early, it has only been two months and I would prefer they take their time and fix the games bugs before going on to any DLCs. HI res texture seems to be the most probable.

I'm sure that if by some chance it is a texture pack, it'll be an optional download.

yeah i cant see them forcing anyone to download anything that can have an impact on performance, not everyone has the same pc. I also think it will be that, a Hi-res pack, because i think it might be too early for DLC... unless it's just an announcement and no release date and such, then i dunno...

Not likely.

It'll be some hi-res textures. Kinda yay.

I hope that the surprise is a High-Res pack. I'm tired of having 30+ mods on this game to make it look decent and having to keep track of them alll. Not only do they vary in resolutions, they are either unoptimized or differ from the original design.

I want HD texture so I can enjoy looking at this game. Is it so much to ask that they upload the hi-res textures that are already sitting on their HDD?

If they don't release the textures I will be so mad!

High res textures are an option. Don't want 'em, don't download 'em. Haven't played Dragon Age 2 or The Witcher 2 have you? All had optional high res texture packs put out by their developers for free.

I didn't know Mass Effect 2 had a high res texture pack, couldn't find anything Official on Google either, can you send me a link as I'm really interested in seeing that.

A mere... MERE... MERE?? .... no Sir.. thats not a mere texture pack.. That is something lots of folks wanted since Day 1, atleast the PC Community....so if lots of people want something.. it′s then a big deal to give people what they want.. that doesnt happen everyday... to get what we want ^^

Some weapons highres pack = mere texture pack
Landscape and cities highres pack = WIN
landscape, cities, armor, weapons, all high res pack = AWESOME
