I say, just poke about with character settings until something interesting appears. It mostly depends on the look you're going for.
As for tips, I've found that tattoos are especially helpful on all the orc female characters I've put together - sometimes to enhance a http://skyrimnexus.com/imageshare/images/2407587-1323831569.jpg, sometimes to cover certain features (http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/ss156/zalunaya/SkyrimOrcOutdoors.jpg?t=1323069926). As usual, you'll need to know what you personally find attractive in a face; do you like a more rounded appearance, or a sharp, angular face? (Etc, etc.) Studying facial anatomy can help, but it also can harm, if you're only looking at images of "studied beauty" rather than what you yourself find beautiful.
