[RELWIP] Automatic Variants - Thread 4

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 5:35 am

Hm, I manually converted using the tool for StarX's packages, so I didn't download the ones that are already converted. You have to separate them to their individual 'creature' folders and convert them, seems to work safest that way.

So by right's the folder structure should follow Bellyache's:

SkyProc Patchers\Automatic Variants\AV Packages\StarX AV Package\Cave Troll\Skin\TrollVar01

Follow that structure for StarX's and it should work. Make sure the .json specification files are within each individual 'creature folder', so for this example, the .json file should be IN the Cave Troll folder (you should see it WITH the Skin folder).

For me, StarX's packages have worked fine this way.

I think StarX may have converted by placing the whole folder "Star X AV Package" into the converter; when I did that I got the incorrect file structure as well.

I placed the Skyproc folder the source folder, as that seems the most logic thing to do as it contains the complete filepath. Please don't tell me I have to update them all again...

Just a quick question. I've got the variants working with StarX and Porcha's packages....

I've also got Bellyaches installed, but there doesn't seem to be anything in the skyproc file for her stuff... is this because i used the mod manager to do it?

Do I need to install it manually in order to get her variations? or am I asking a stupid question and the fact they're installed mean it's already working? :D

Hey, I think a skin folder just needs to be added judging by the folder structure after I converted your files initially like so:

"SkyProc Patchers\Automatic Variants\AV Packages\StarX AV Package\Wolf Black\Skin\Var01"
"SkyProc Patchers\Automatic Variants\AV Packages\StarX AV Package\Wolf Black\Skin\Var02"
"SkyProc Patchers\Automatic Variants\AV Packages\StarX AV Package\Wolf Black\Skin\Var03"
"SkyProc Patchers\Automatic Variants\AV Packages\StarX AV Package\Wolf Black\Skin\Var04"

Et cetera, hope that helps! Also the Wolf Frost folder had a file named "General Specifications.json" instead of simply Specifications.json. Not sure if there's any consequences from that mislabel...I went ahead and changed it to simply "Specifications.json" as per the other packages.

Changing the filepath is easy, I just hate it to have to re-upload everything again. I expected the converter to do it automatically right.

IIRC I don't think the name of .json file matters.

This was one of the first things I installed after I started a new game, now I'm reading it probably hasn't been doing anything because I didn't have it installed from the start? Wow, do I feel stupid.

@sounaipr
I'll look into it. 8)

The mod manager may have installed it in the wrong path? I can't be sure with what you've told me.
My suggestion would be to "reinstall" the bellyaches package manually by simply dragging it out of the zip by hand so that you're sure it goes in the right folder.

I placed the Skyproc folder the source folder, as that seems the most logic thing to do as it contains the complete filepath. Please don't tell me I have to update them all again...

Yeah, the program thinks it is being handed package folders, and just goes two levels down and adds a "skin" level. It's not smart enough to recognize the whole skyproc patchers folder is being dragged in instead.. it just assumes its a package folder and goes two levels down. It was just a quick tool I threw together; It's not too robust or smart. 8(

I could upload them for you with my speedy school internet, if you want. XD

Hehe, well your post didn't really give me much to work with or say about.
Can you give me some more specifics as to what you did, why you think it's not working? Maybe even a http://afterimagemetal.com/AutoVar/Automatic%20Variants%20Readme.html#bugs. AV should work even if it's not installed on a new game.. you'll just see sliders every so often.

No.. was just going through looking at all my various mods and visiting their forums when I noticed someone say that in order for this mod to work that you need to have it loaded from the start of your game. I didn't. So I figured it wasn't working. Which makes sense because I never bothered to confirm that it was working as I got distracted by the game after installation. hah

Did that and seams to be working fine now.
New folder structure: SkyProc Patchers\Automatic Variants\AV Packages\StarX AV Package\Wolf Black\Skin

Thanks

Curiously, Bellyache werewolf eyes have duplicate EIDs with Dragons Diversified. Did not see that coming.

Alright guys, new bug report system since the forums get messy and reports get lost, etc etc.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1E927IcNpzrWfssHIHRkm75oLk44fh6TngWBp4ytrxfM/edit
If you have a bug report where you KNOW the cause, feel free to post here on the forums still.. but also consider adding it to this list.
If you don't know the cause and "things are just going wrong", then I suggest submitting a http://afterimagemetal.com/AutoVar/Automatic%20Variants%20Readme.html#bugs instead, to help figure out the cause.

It will just be a centralized and organized list that anyone can modify. I'll try to address each point eventually.

Thanks for the bug list page, Lev! I was wondering about the status of Extended Colors - Selection, and now I don't need to ask you for an update on the status! ;)

Nevermind, not 100% sure if its dragons diversified or the compatibility pach because now I am getting errors. You know more than I do so i'll let you handle it.

^ That's pretty telling. I had duplicate EID errors using Dragons Diversified as well. I had to disable them and the compatibility patch for now to get AV to patch through.

Uploaded StarX's temporary fixed packages.
Let me know when you upload them again yourself, Star. 8)

Also reuploaded bellyaches as the folder structure was not "newbie-proof". You don't need to download again if you already have it working.
