Avoiding the forum.

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 7:13 pm

Well, I was wondering about a new thread with something new to talk about, and I haven't seen this around as far as I can remember.
So.
Will you avoid the forum when the game has been released so that you won't get spoiled?
I'm guessing a lot of new forums users will come, and some of them will post thread with titles that clearly spoil parts of the game.
Will you avoid the wikia, NMA and the forums just so that you won't get spoiled or will you go here anyway?
If you're going to avoid the forum, why is that and for how long do you plan on being absent?

I'm thinking that I will start out by going into the wasteland for 5 hours just exploring, then I will complete CL's story and finish the game.
If this takes me one week, so be it. If this takes me one month, then so be it.
But after I've completed the final quest on my first playthrough I'm going to be back here even though there is a high risk I can get House and NCR parts spoiled for me.

nope, I wanna keep myself 100% spoil free, so I will avoid the forum like the plauge for a few weeks (maybe even months) untill I either beat the game or get close enough to beating it I don′t mind being spoiled.

For the most part yes, i would be really really pissed if the major points were ruined for me so i'll just make sure i'm just not here until i have experienced them.

I hit quite a few spoilers on these forums, but so far Obsidian and Bethesda have done a great job at keeping a large portion of the game under wraps.

I think the game is huge enough that we won't see anything major coming from official sources.

I may avoid the forums once the game launches however to avoid any major, juicy spoilers.

Well once it's released the forum will be split up into a General Discussion section and a Cheats, Hints, and Spoilers section like Fallout 3, so as long as you avoid the Spoilers section it should be easy to remain spoiler-free. True that plenty of people will try to post spoilers in the General Discussion section but the mods are good at moving spoiler-ish topics quickly, or adding spoiler tags to spoiler-ish posts.

That said, I'll probably be avoiding even the General Discussion section for a while, definitely until I beat the main quest at least once. Knowing how much I prefer exploring to actually doing quests, that could take quite a while.

Not only do I not want to be spoiled, but all of the time I spend here on the forums will be replaced by me playing the game. I would have no reason to come back very often until speculation really kicks in on the next Fallout in the next 1 or 2 years.

I plan on starting a blind, hard, hardcoe, neutral walkthrough of the game so I won't come on everyday and I'll probably avoid The New Vegas section like the plague when I do.

I am playing Oblivion more at the momment so I rarely pop in here now as is, since the games released in weeks.
As I am a brit most people on the other side of the pond will have had three days head start on us, so not really I may pop in to see any reported glitches.
That is if there is not another sub forum already put up for that on release, otherwise no.

Edit: Oh and maybe to check out new uses for skills in game, I mean what people have made use of with perks and stats.

Spoilers in the General forum will be inevitable but when the game is released there will be a Cheats Hints and Spoilers forum - of course some enthusiastic members will still be posting here. Plus, if we have the same problems as we have had with other game releases there will also be the trolls and general mischief makes who will turn up to post quest endings in capital letters/big fonts just to annoy everyone.

I do assure you that the moderators will be doing their best to ensure there are no spoilers and that the topic titles of the moved threads (that get left behind in the forum they are moved from) do not give too much away. :)

I think i'll try and mix the both of them. I dont intend to go on any thread that i don't want to go on, but at the same time, im not overly fussed about spoilers, i just prefer to play the game my own way and so wil not be needing the advice of such spoiler threads.

You probably won't hear from me after it comes out.
I might come back a few times after it releases, but for the most part, I'll be playing it. :)

I plan to make my 1st play though 100% spoil/guide/wiki free, so i can explore and find things for myself, for me that is what the most fun part of the FO3 and i want to continue that on to F:NV ( although the very high temptation to wiki the anti material rifle might break me lol)

When 3 launched, I was on here a lot. A bunch of us were either helping fellow players with quests, doing our best not to spoil much. We also shared interesting locations found here. They contained odd stuff, notes, skeletal setups, etc, that were off the beaten path. I certainly plan on doing that all over again.

Tough decision, I'll be playing for about a week and then come on to post in GD and discuss how much the game has done and non spoiler things like how well game mechanics are.

Well, to each their own I guess.
But I like to be shocked by plot twists, so I don't see why anyone likes spoilers.
Say you do a quest and at the end the plot twist makes you go http://paintermommy.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/shocked.jpg
But with reading the spoiler you will just go http://cdn1.knowyourmeme.com/i/3367/original/633587532668224235-meh.jpg?1244739335

that is very true, I will be doing a little of both,
probably using the forum/wiki to find anything special or interesting, but trying to avoid anything major like the main story quest
