Awesome Secret Places

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 6:27 pm

I've wandered through the Rift forest and come across this shack in the middle of nowhere, seemingly abandoned by an alchemist and one of the books describing a returning soldier heading home who decided to pass through the forest to save time and spent the next few nights getting harrassed by a womans ghost that he seemingly kills it and runs off but one part details him hiding out in a shack like the one I was standing in and seeing that the sun was going down I actually ran as fast as I could out of the forest.

That moment made me appreciate the little touches Bethesda had added.

I found a shack on the shore of a river that had been crushed by an enormous tree that had fallen over at just the right angle, there was a dead guy inside pinned underneath the tree and his name was Lucky Jonas or something like that, didn't get any good loot from the shack but the comedic value more than made up for it.

Hey, I remember him. He has a copy of the Lusty Argonian Maid, v1 lying nearby.

Those are rare in this game it seems!

I spend a lot of time just climbing mountains... fell off the peak of one and landed on my ass next to..

Spoiler
a Dwemer Pillar with ornately displayed enchanted axe

Literally the only thing in sight. (Mostly due to poor weather)

Far to the west-north-west, on one of the small islands there is a poll with a tattered red flag and a skeleton sitting at the base with his arms around it, like he is holding the flag up even in death. That is one the I found that I like the most. I'll try to find it again so I can give a better idea of where it is.

A little inland from the northern coast, between the Tower stone and Winterhold, there's a mammoth frozen in ice. There's all kinds of arrows lodged in it. There's also long wooden stakes lodged in its side. Seems the ancient hunters had knowledge of spears.

I always love it when I find a cave or dungeon has an exit on the other side that leads to an outdoor area you otherwise cannot reach.
These little nooks and valleys are great.

What I also really like are those caves that are more like a very narrow crack in the mountain. You see daylight falling in, trees and flowers, and usually, a spriggan.

A skeletal hand holding an elven sword up out of a pond

A small, empty shelter with two bedrolls inside, one strewn with flowers and empty bottles of wine :)

West of Whiterun, not far off the road at the base of the mountains, is a GIANT dead mudcrab. I mean 15-20' wide including claws that is half in a tiny pond that constantly spawn mudcrabs. I snuck up to the thing ready to sneak attack it before I realized it was dead. Weird.

Good thread idea,

Started a new character last night and found something interesting about the old lady in the shack opposite Riverwood;

She has a trap door in her house slightly hidden by straw with an alchemy and enchanting station below and some alchemy ingredients etc and a note inviting a 3rd women to join/start a coven.

Small things like this and what Caljen said above are pretty cool

Yup. I found this one too. My assassin killed her, and now this is my "go-to" enchantment/alchemy location.

I random shack in a forest. I believe it was called Meeko's shack. Turns out the owner of the shack was dead, and meeko was a dog.

A dragon then attack. Meeko distracted the dragon while I attacked from the wing. Epic moment!

Talos Shrine with dead worshippers and a dead justicar holding a note that tells him he can't get help to deal with the Talos worshippers he thinks is there but has no evidence, the Thalmor are stretched far too thin.

Nothing really in skyrim yet, I am hoping for something as epic and impressive as the boat burial cave in morrowind (or as epic as the first time I approached the shrine of azura, although that was pretty clearly marked on the map).

Shrine of Azura is equally or more epic in Skyrim than Morrowind, imho. Its built at a higher elevation and seems FAR larger. Seeing its silhouette emerge as you walk at the foot of the mountain at dusk in the middle of the snowstorm is pretty awe inspiring.

Lol you ninja'd my example!

Was a great one though! I almost passed over the trapdoor. Loved that she was posing as a harmless old lady until you find her secret lab.

I don't have the PC for the full epicness though :(

I think this was right after I had left a cave/dungeon called Bloated Mans Grotto. Walking around, I saw a random small shrine not on map. I approach it and see a book, talking about the Blades, and right above it, a one-handed katana with a fear + stamina/magicka drain called Outriders Blade or something like that. Looks frigging badash, but being a 2hander-er, Lydia rocked this for awhile. It now hangs proudly in my Whiterun house (above my butterfly in a jar).

Also, found a random dwarven door, leading to a place called "Dwenmer Storehouse". It was a small room, with various items... and like 30 Dwarven Ignots.. suffice to say, my smithing went up considerably afterwards ;)

I doubt you could tell the difference. Its not like seeing the distant silhouette of a huge distant object in the middle of a snow storm requires ultra high textures. :)

on my way back on the south east road to whiterun i bumped into the headless horseman, i attacked it cause i thought it was some ghost mob or somethin but he takes no damage..i proceeded to run after him..pretty cool lil place he leads you too. the tower with stormcloak guards all killed an a note saying legionaires were spotted an reinforcments were on the way, a cave/dwemer system where refugees from morrowind were ambushed ala "the hills have eyes" sorta thing.Seeing the ghost of a thief from one of the books where a heist of sorts plays out similiar to the book..M'aiq the liar..who randomly pops up just when u about to call it a night and makes you go ok just one more hour. alot of what has already been mentioned here too..still looking for the woodcutters wife :P, a cabin far to the south up in the mountains, with an npc who actually teaches you step by step a thing or two..i could go on an on lol.being attacked by the DB with a note that someone has put a contract on me,, have had the hired mercs/thugs after me but DB?never, and on that character i gave done no harm to anything but wildlife :P
