[RQlooking for] Bandits should not wear elven glass

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 2:39 am

I searched the Nexus and found nothing, but I don't believe it. I guess the mod I'm looking for has some fancy name so I can't find it.

Anyway...since Skyrim v1.0 bandits appear in elven and even glass armor! Is there a mod around that fixes that? If not, I'd like to request one.

But as I said before...I bet someone already fixed it. Any help finding it would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Search and Nexus in the same sentence is hilarious. I would think there's a mod like this somewhere. I know there are one's that keep all bandits either male or female, but I'm not sure about armor ones.

Why Elven/Glass specifically?

Glass because it is rare in TES. Elven is quite good too, so seeing a low level bandit doning such an armor could be quite immersion breaking. At least it's not as bad as Oblivion where bandits were wearing daedric armors :)

I can agree with this, but Salad didn't mention being low-level. A bandit has the same right/chance to find glass armor as you do.

It's not so much about find glass armor/weapons, it's about forging them. It's supposed to be a tricky process according to lore.

By the time our characters have had enough experience to craft these materials they should presumably have mastered tricky processes, no?

That requires more than just bandits. Merchants carry about every single material and armor. That's automatically dull and not a fresh experience any time you meet up with a new merchant. Bethesda accidentally the whole game; what can you do? I'm sure Economics of Skyrim helps with this (haven't used it), but I could have sworn I've seen a mod for the bandits.

...Bandits don't wear anything higher than scaled for light armor, or steel plate for heavy armor.

Roadside thieves can wear up to glass, random adventurers can wear higher level armors, and Volikhar vampires often don glass armor. But bandits don't wear those.

Ah, yes. Them, too. They also wear Elven, but that goes without saying.

They actually have a weaker variant of Elven armor that they use before the player can find Elven normally; however, many Thalmor will always use Elven weapons, like Ondolemar.

I'm level 15 and yes I meant roadside thieves.

So many answers...but still no mod. :(

I think Scaling Stopper might fix that. Are they always wearing eleven/glass or only sometimes? I guess it would make sense if thieves sometimes wore rarer armors.

The mod you guys might be thinking of may be The Secret Of Steel: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14175

I havent used it - I think its just alters levelled lists to significantly reduce the amount of 'fantasy' weapons and armor in the game. Not strictly with Bandits or Thieves but generally. As I sais I havent used it.

On a side note I do recommend the Vendors module from HBE to remove or rarify those higher-level 'fantasy' weapons and armor from vendors, and also to delay the levels at which each tier of weaponry/armor appears in the game (ie. deaying orcish to level 9 etc: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4429

I was looking around the CK and I think I found the list:

http://s1.directupload.net/file/u/16073/zo7jovg6_jpg.htm

So, as you can see, it is simply scaled by level. I changed the levled-lists by deleting elven, elven-guilded and glass from the armor, boots and gloves lists. I will test it - I might still have a savegame shortly before encountering a roadside thief - and report back.

And if there's really no simple mod like this I will upload this to the Nexus myself.

HEUREKA! It works.

http://s7.directupload.net/images/user/120620/9w2q9g8m.jpg

Going to test a bit more, then upload the mini-mod to the Nexus. Someone else might also appreciate it. ^^

You can still subscribe to it, leave Steam download its content in your data folder. Once this done, put the esp and the bsa files away in a safe place and unsubscribe. Once this done, put the files back in their place and you'll have a mod as if you had downloaded it on the Nexus.

this seems a good place. how do people feel about bandits/thieves having upgraded/tempered weapons/armor rather than elven/glass... is that even possible?

All upgrades are done with scripts that modify the weapon/armor health. The functions required aren't available to us. It needs some SKSE functions.

I feel about it the same way as I felt about the leveling enemies of Oblivion: Of course I would like for some tough enemies later in the game, but there should be exceptions. I don't want to fight a level 30 rat the same way as I don't want to fight a level 30 roadside thief with uber-armor and super-weapons. A guy that could probably take on the dragon-problem on his own, when he's not robbing peasants. -.-

Just my opinion.

I think Skyrim is doing it much better than Oblivion though. Instead of a 1:1 leveling of the same enemies, the game simply provides stronger variants. And not each new level, but in larger steps. They get a "stronger" look, better abilities, magic or shouts (like the dragons or draugr) or upgraded gear.

As long as it stays believeable I'm okay with it. The meager thief in glass armor is definitely not believeable, hence I changed it.

How do random thieves get those items?
Well, why do you think they have the galls to attack you who wear lot stronger things anyway?
