Bard's Quests Are Broken. Please Help

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 12:20 pm

Hi everyone,

So in the beginning of the game, during my exploring of dungeons and stuff, I came across Finn's Lute. Recently I found Pantea's Lute. I decided to grab them then and hang on to them until I could return them to their owners. I finished the quest Tending the Flames. Now I'm accepted into the Bard's college and can do the side quests.

Here is where the problems are.

1) I talk to Pantea and she gives me the quest to find her flute. I have it in my inventory but it won't let me talk to her, there is no open diaolgue. She just keeps saying to find her flute or something. I tried to sneak and put it in her inventory but that won't work. So what can I do here?

2) I also talked to Inge Six-Fingers to get the Lute quest and I have the option to say " I have the lute" and she rewards me with the skill ups but I still have the Lute in my inventory. What the heck? I saved before talking to her and Pantea.

Why isn't these quests working like if you do Bleak Falls Barrow and get the Dragon Stone BEFORE going to Whiterun and getting the jarl's wizard's quest to find it. There since i had it I could immediately say " Here it is" and the quest updated and was complete.

Finn's Lute quest does at least work, where I get my reward and it does say it is completed, but the Lute is still in my inventory and is classed as a Quest item.

Pantea's to me is completely messed up as I can't even offer to give her flute to her.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so did you find a way to fix it? And if not I hope there's a patch that will fix this. Both quests seem screwed since I found the quest item before starting the quest. This is disappointing... =(

Seems like most quests in this game are broken, and Bethesda has opted to focus on graphic and memory issues before making the game playable. Sorry.

I thought it was the other way around. They won't be fixing fps drops and freezes until they get back from a very hard-earned vacation.

Bottom of the first post: "To be safe, we are prioritizing code side fixes right now over data fixes. Quest and balance issues are usually data, and those will start rolling in a large way with the January updates."

They sold the game broken in early November, and aren't even considering fixing it until after the holidays...after they've all had a chance to spend the money we gave them.

Yep, if you pick up the musical instruments prior to getting the quests, you'll either have to reload a save before you've got them, or wait for a fix. And also yep, even if you do the quests in the "right" order, you will still have the items in inventory until a fix.

Ugh how annoying. Well thank you for letting me know. I really appreciate it. I have saved before talking to all of them. I'll just hang on to their instruments until a fix comes out. I'm seeing if I can still finish the Theives Guild now. I did allll the main quests but there is no where I can get my Guild Master Armor. Maybe I have to upgrade my TG armor first or finish all the quests from Vex and the others? I want that armor and that trophy!

Thanks again for your help. =)

It will be easy to fix once the CK comes out if Bethesda don't fix it first

No problem.... I've been playing CRPGs since 1985 - you don't really want to know how many (probable....) years I've spent waiting on fixes/reloading old saves after fixes etc. And I really have no idea about the TG armor issue.... I don't do TG or DB quest lines.

*Gasp* You don't do them? Well that's cool. I looked up in my guide and ya I have to do more TG quests. =P My game froze so hard just now my PS3 crashed and a weird screen came up and the system had to restore my files and data. I had a freaking heart attack. O_o

So yeah I guess all we can do is wait for a patch to fix the quests and side quest issues. Thanks again!

I have a constitutional inability to do "evil" stuff.... I'm CG IRL, and in games.... with a few lawful tendencies.... so anything that leans toward the "dark side" is something I just won't do. Each to her own, after all....

Well Skyrim is on the shelf with my other games as it just froze and crashed my whole PS3 again. I had just reloaded the game and went to go into a building for a quest. I'm done....I give up until some patches are released to fix the game. Mine is now unplayable and I almost lost all my data (everything on my ps3) twice. I've heard people are losing their save files and other system files/data on their PS3's. I'm copying my Skyrim data to a usb drive along with my other important game files to keep them safe. This is extremely upsetting and frustrating. So goodbye Skyrim until the many needed patches come out.

Thanks to all the people who replied to this post. Good luck to you guys and your game file(s) to.

Yup and you to. =) I'm sure everything will be fine once its patched, but i reloaded my game right? Thinking fine whatever I'll just try again. I got to Whiterun and saved. I had to go to the Battle-Born house for a quest. I clicked on the door and it froze when it was loading it. My ps3 crashed again and had to restore all the data. I'm not taking another chance with something like this.

I backed up all my game data to my 16 gb usb stick for safe keeping (won't let me copy Assassin's Creed 2 but no matter), the Skyrim file i had JUST saved so at least its stored away. It's just frustrating as a huge fan of the game that it runs as it does. The freezing is constant to. My poor PS3 probably hates me by now. LOL

Well I think I'll throw in Assassin's Creed 2 tomorrow and start a new game. So much nastalgia there! It's my favorite AC game still! The Assassin's Creed and Elder Scrolls series are my favorites.

But yes I know what the issue is with the Thieves Guild, so I know what to do with that, but ya the side quests like those mentioned above need to be fixed asap.

And yes I will get back to having a blast once its all patched and working as it should. I'm planning on doing a walkthrough for the Dark Brotherhood and the Companions' questlines. =D I'll upload them to youtube. ^_^ Maybe I'll kill some dragons in my walkthroughs, you never know when one of those big guys will show up.

Also PS: I went to Riften and 2 dragons showed up. One landed but the lag was so bad the dragon was just polygons. The textures only showed up after I killed it. LMAO It was....was like a new type of dragon! Scaleless! XD

ROFL! Does being scaleless make it easier to kill? I wish....

[Heh. As to when they show up.... as soon as you tag a quest line that leads to (or head toward an area that has) a word wall.... At least, that's how it's happening in my games on PC....]

Have you joined the Companion's? They're like the Fighters Guild, except wayyyyy cooler. =D I'm overall happier with the Guild Factions in this game. They're all totally cooler, the faction characters rock, and from what i've seen so far, their endings are FAR SUPERIOR to Oblivion's faction endings. I haven't joined the civil war stuff yet. I'm too distracted from new quests. How about you?

Oh, this current toon is - 18 I think. I have a couple at mid-20s, one is 40 something, and the rest are all over the place (I have 10 at last count.... various races/classes.... no thief types, no pure mages.... generally fighter-mage combos with specs in different areas). I'm never in any hurry to do anything in TES games other than mess around, get bunches of gold, buy houses etc. That's what I love about TES games!

Same, I just like to chill and explore the world. Finding locations and stuff. I found a fishermen's cabin (a rest stop kind of open cabin) and a huge waterfall and river was right there next to it. Unfortunately I could not own this little shack. It would have been pretty and awesome! My character is a fighter and does destruction magic. Alteration and Illusion if needed. He's a khajiit who is a fighter, thief and an assassin. XD But he does good stuff for the Holds if the coin is good enough or I can get a house. Do you have the house in Riften? I love it 8D A nice porch and lake side view.

I have it on one toon (she has all of them....) but not on this current girl. This one's just doing Breezehome - not into alchemy at all but for enchanting I just run back and forth to Dragonsreach, not a big deal. Whiterun is so nicely central - and I really LIKE Balgruuf (I don't care for most of the other Jarls - I would LOVE to have Elisif's clothes though....) - and if the merchants run out of gold before I get everything sold, it's not that far to Riverwood.

Every time I go to Riverwood a dragon attacks. I don't know why or what it is...but yeah. Its a dragon magnet or something. The Blacksmith's wife died in my game. Dragon picked her up, shook her around and tossed her down a street. V_V I do like that we get wayyy more gold for missions. Like for example do a TG side mission and you'll get 300 gold (for a simple one). Even that racks up a lot of money quickly if you do them back to back. I don't like the Jarl of Winterhold...or Markarth. Some others I don't like, but I can't remember what city they're in.

Not sure what race to play as for my walkthroughs. Khajiit are my favorite. =D I was thinking a tiger fur patterned one and name him Tai Fu (after one of my old playstation games) Or Tai Fu Khan - A mix of that character and Shere Khan from the jungle book. =P But I would also like to try an Argonian. But I need to free up more space on my hard drive. I'm level 82 on Smithing I think. So close to 100!

I have Emperor Robes. XD You have to do the Dark Brotherhood Quest line to get them. That's the only way I know of. In the video I made, my character is wearing them so you can at least see them. I'll try to have it uploaded asap so I can share the link here. My character's name is Shadow-Claw. I couldn't think of a new name at the time I started the game (i was wayy to excited), so he's a decendant and named after the hero of the Oblivion Crisis (who was also a Khajiit). XD

More quests are broken in this game than than there should be without a doubt, but I have finished something like 70 quests and over 250 Misc objectives and have maybe 5 or 6 bugged quests. Unless I hit an incredibly bad streak I think that ratio shows that "most quests" are not completely broken.

Those types of exaggerated statements don't do any good at getting things resolved.

I'm back playing Skyrim again. But I'm going going to play for like an hour max. I'll try to time myself. =) It might be annoying but it should work fine by playing in short intervals until all these patches come out in January and these issues get resolved. So i'm back!!!! =D
