The map is fine and the story is great.
About 65 hours for the first runthrough and the questlog was still chockfull of undone quests - not to mention those that were locked due to my choices.
In my opinion it is way better to have the content concentrated on stuff that has a point to it (namely, the quests) instead of pointless random running around to see what the next abandoned officebuilding/cave/shack/factory complex #187 doesn't offer. The setting is consistent and makes sense, and gives the player an incentive to go see the wasteland not so much by random quirks but by jobs that serve an ingame purpose. The wasteland around the heart of the region feels more like a wasteland instead of a themepark visit to see the next spookhouse or mirrorhouse. It feels more alive and natural to the setting (200 years after the war).
The story is consistent and believable, with choices that really matter - and with the sidestuff affecting the outcome encouraging different runthroughs. Dialog is well written and the characters feel alive with their backgrounds and motives.
The general gameplay and design, though, has been stagnant since 2006 - which is a minus, but the actual content patches that pretty good (but not wholly).
I'm not bored yet. Not even close.
