I've just realized with all the added weight + the fact you'll need to carry more goodies with you anyway to survive, the life of the scavenger got alot harder.
In FO3 I put brahmin steaks on the table by killings things, taking their valuables, and selling them at a premium with my barter skill.

Now since I won't be able to lug around so much crap AND I'm probably going to have to spend more caps I'm thinking that the gambling skill will actually be more favoarble than barter.

On the same reasoning Speech and possibly charisma will also be more desireable because I remember there being a number of dialogue options in FO3 to get more caps for a something with a speech check. I never really bothered with it because my scavenging method was more practical and more fun.

Hope you plan to cheat (using intentionally provided in-game methods), because the House Always Wins.

I wonder if you have a high enough INT if you can get a "Card Counting" perk that gives you a leg up in card games...

then again gamble is..well a gamble, if you have a unlucky time you could spend a lot of frustrating time loosing and gaining caps.

Plus with the right tactics (like only having with you 2-3 weapons tops) I′m sure looting and scavenging is viable in hardcoe.

Well or cheat the old fashioned way and just do a quick save before placing a bet.
But that kind of shinanigans is for real trolls.

Oh and I never said scavenging is impractical now.

My point is just that gambling isn't necessarily a gimmick, theres a reason it may be something to level up.

And remember this is Fallout, you get an actual gambling skill, so I'm sure once you get that baby leveld you'll be winning quite frequently - atleast at blackjack.

trust me the game will assume you don′t and have the same pop up hints as seen in Fallout 3

The Gambling "skill" is not returning for New Vegas. But yeah, it would be nice if Gambling was a viable form of income.

I have a group of people I play poker with. Why don't you come over with some money and we will teach you all you need to know.

I hope that gambling (with the right character) can provide a meaningful income. I fully intend on playing at least one professional gambler character, and I'd be disappointed if the character skills and stats didn't affect the card games to some level.

We know that high luck affects it at least

Same here. Though, at the same time I hope it (or anything else, for that matter) doesn't break the economy of the gameworld.

My beef is no poker, with that game strategy is more prevalent and less a chance of odds favoring the house.

Its not coming back as an actual skill just in the form of mini-games and a way to win/lose money. Only thing that will effect it in the mini-game is luck and maybe a skill check or 2 from actual skills to help tilt the odds or cheat.

I'm kinda bummed now.
