Best Game Soundtracks

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkfXjvMH32o (IMO, Motoi Sakuraba's absolute greatest game soundtrack ever)

 He's definetly one of the best. I actually use http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6Zv51HfbnA as Planes of Oblivion background music :hehe:

Also, The Last Remnant's boss musics i really like:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9p40zrpg7c&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMaFsudO46s&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOqJj4UX4KU&feature=related

Even the standard battle musics are great:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saeNwycQg40&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxkVXTpUOOY&feature=related

The desperate battle music does svck, though:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBQzd9YYuQM&feature=BFa&list=PLCEDCD5F35B871A3E&index=36
but even that is replaced with a much better version later:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aDJnaA6n0M&feature=BFa&list=PLCEDCD5F35B871A3E&index=17

I sometimes let the battle music run trough once before even starting the battle. Soundtarck can really make or break the game, for example i can't replay Final Fantasy 10 because i absolutely hate the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C34BzC7rnos&feature=related.

Hah, I actually think his work with Till The End of Time was one of the worst. I can hardly remember any tracks I liked from that game, except for one of the first ones that's almost impossible to find on Youtube (It's a very mellow sounding piece that feels very...space-y, and plays when you're in the refuge area). His other works, however, especially with Valkyrie Profile 2 and The Last Hope, are among the best soundtracks I've heard in gaming.

Star Ocean 3 wasn't really that good IMO either, though i think it was the first game i heard Sakuraba's Music and let a positive impression.

Oh, and Xenosaga Ep3 had some great ones too, such as
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5krINDGIeqw (the related boss fight was quite, even though i think the word is severely overused, epic)
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAF3k7ak55U&feature=related.

Those are by Yuki Kajiura, i don't think i've heard her other works, though.

And of course, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3sErgVX25w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFiSb9SBOW0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMXr2hKIgMw&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpaJulksCik :hehe:

Every developer should just outsource soundtracks to Japan :P

She does a lot of great stuff. Not just for games, either.

Hmm, others...

Oblivion soundtrack, obviously.
Secret of Mana opening theme
Some nice stuff I vaguely recall from Xenogears....

Soundtrack-wise, the radio stations Electro Choc, the Journey and Vladivostok FM in GTA IV, and most of the songs on GNR in FO3.

Score-wise, Red Dead Redemption, BioShock, Mirror's Edge...that's all I can think of right now, sure there are more.

Metroid Prime has some of my favorite game music. I don't know why, but ever since I heard the intro for the first time, I could not hate any of the music.

Devil May Cry 3 has some of the best music imho and haven't found any other game that has really topped that. Einhander is a dead second and the rave techno style music is really a great change from the heavy metal/rock/easy listening crap they shove into games lately. Though as woodelf mentioned Metroid Prime has some very interesting music.

Though we shall all remember the C&C Red Alert music.

I second the Metroid Prime sentiment.

Also, JSRF. Greatest soundtrack of all time.

I've rather avoided music of late, so my tastes will reflect "old fart" VGM..

Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3+Knuckles (Sega Genesis)
Goldeneye 007 (N64)

Oh yes. I especially love Sonic and Knuckles.

A few more I like: Zelda Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past, Morrowind, Oblivion, Halo games.

I have so much more I would wish to share but can't remember them all. Please post yours!

This.

Best credits I've ever heard.

Also, the Halo series holds some of the best orchestral work I've ever heard, and that chorus is nothing short of amazing.

The only credits that I have actually sat through.

Also their band is pretty good, underrated. But decent music still.

Fallout 3, for which there is a soundtrack and quite a good one at that.

Oblivion.

I've adjusted the audio just to listen to the stirring and spooky music of each.

Also seriously into Sergio Leone flicks, so totally dig the Red Dead soundtrack.
