Best sword (slight oblivion Spoiler)

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 6:43 am

Umbra wasn't the most powerful sword in Oblivion, Shadowredn was.

Actually, Bound Claymore is. Umbra is like 31, Shadowrend was like 32. Right? I hadn't played OB in a long time... Bound Sword is 35 for sure.

I think you can with an Ebony ingot, but probably not significantly.

Actually I was able to improve it using void salts I believe. It wasn't as strong as chillrend, but I don't have daedric or ebont smithing perks so that may impact it. I believe I got the base damage up to 67 and that was without 100 in smithing and without using any fortify smithing equipment.

Well, I had read that it is improvable with an Ebony ingot, but when I went to try it didn't show up in the list (100 Smithing and all the heavy perks).

If you select it on the smithing screen it will tell you at the bottom what raw material you need to improve it. I remember it being void salts because I thought it was odd, only weapon I've had that requires that material.

It didn't show up on my list when I was at the grinding wheel. :o

It's a leveled item, and unfortunately the top tier version of it (I think) cannot be improved. Ironically a lower tier version in an improved state will probably be a more powerful weapon.

You know what? I have 2 of them (game bugged). One I got in my 40s and one I got in my 60s - I'm going to check both of them at the Grindstone.

Edit: I just checked them and I didn't get the option, but I seem to remember improving the first one I got and not being impressed with it afterward. They are both equal in damage and value though so maybe the first one was maxed when I got it.

I think the 25 point enchantments are the highest level. I know my version of it cannot be improved, and I'm pretty sure it would have to be the highest tier. Very nice model too. :(

The 2nd one I got would definitely be the highest tier because I got it last week when the quest Hard Answers restarted (long after I've done Under New Management), but I'm sure I improved the 1st one because I remember being underwhelmed because I was sure the sword was gonna' be really badass before I actually improved it and found out.
