You can make a Daedric Sword so powerful in Skyrim that the damage numbers will completely bug out... What do you mean by 'best'?

Dragonbane one one of my playthroughs does 160+ damage alone. That's the highest I've personally seen, y'know, without going out of your way to break the game. I just happened to come across some 50% better smithing potions, and have been carrying around 20% bracers for the longest time.

(The image linked above... I call shenanigans. That requires some serious alchemy and enchanting to achieve, I think.)

Wikis hold all such answers, really.

Try this list: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Unique_Items
Or this list: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Weapons_%28Skyrim%29

Yeah, it can be done with exploit-like behavior. Plus, if the character 'holding' them has all the relevant perks it will make the Damage number higher.

My Ebony Daggers on my Assassin chick do like 157 with 'normal' Fortify Smithing gear and potions.

Not only having Smithing, Alchemy and Enchanting at 100 and all the perks, but using fortify enchantments on helmet, gloves, ring and necklace, too. The maximum possible without using bugs or glitches is around 600 damage.

No sheogorathigans or shenanigans, I swear.

Aye, my Daedric Daggers are around 85ish, I have switched for Dragonbane/Blades Katana which do about 160 and 150 respectively.

The best will be one you make yourself. Enchantments alone can have over 150 points of elemental damage and you can at least double that with smithing.

Daedric Claymore has highest Damage amount, if you don't use smith. That is for Sword-Wise though, not Hammer/Axe wise.

I am a bit sad not to see Umbra back but I read the books and understand. I was originally hoping for Chrysamere to be the best Sword, tbh. But Nooo.. Bethesda says no to that sword.

You can get it to 171 damage with Enchanting, Alchemy and Smithing, and without any glitches like the Falmer Helmet. That's not counting any fortify one handed weapon damage enchants you could add.

The Blade of Woe reaches 174, not including it's enchantment and without glitching.

I personally like my Daedric Claymore (Damage of 107). I use to have one with a damage of 151 but the damage was too high for me and I was uncomfortable with it. 107 is comfortable for me.

I like when things are harder to kill.

Umbra wasn't the most powerful sword in Oblivion, Shadowredn was.

Yep, makes Draugr Deathlords less annoying. Also, if you kill them as they're getting up from being frozen, it'll be pretty funny (dead but looking alive).

I gave one of these to Lydia and she 3-shotted http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Arondil when I was level 67. FWIW I had Wabbajacked Lydia so she is at her max level, but still... :o

You could also dual-wield swords if the shield thing doesn't interest you. :P

I've done that with bound swords on occasion and I flippin' love it.

I fondly remember my blade collection in MW displayed neatly on my beds in the Fighter's Guild in Balmora. I was so proud....

My guy dual-wields Legendary Daedric Swords and hack the $*** out of stuff.

Since I can't get a bunch of display racks in a row I may have to something like that. Or maybe I'll use the glitched rack in Vlindrel and just have a bunch of them stabbed into the wall and fanned out.
