1.5 Beta - Shadows broken in Stereo 3D

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 11:33 pm

This pisses me off. I bought the game awhile ago for $40 to support the developers because it looked like a very well done game, but also because 3D worked very well with it. I did that despite being laid off with my savings dwindling! I haven't even played it yet. If there is no way to fix the shadows or way to use 1.4 by the time i play i am [censored] going to flip out.

To any developers reading this thread, understand that when shadows are broken, its like viewing the real world through a window, but having shadows and lights render ON THE WINDOW! Think about it, its horrible.

DDD have broken shadows. Have 218 hours in 3D (Skyrim), after 1.5 patch it's broke shadows.

But does it support 3D natively?

I feel for your guys that made 3D perfect in Skyrim and now it's totally unplayable in 3D. Skyrim world was so damn nice in S3D...There is even some issues with 2D now it seems. I hope this is just some nasty bug slipped in the code and there will be some quick fix from Bethesda.

PS:Now that the 680 is out there seems to be even more interest for 3D as one card can render 1080p 3D with good framerates. Skyrim 1.4 was a showcase material for sure...

I noticed in Nvidia's promotional video for their new card they were playing Skyrim in 3D surround. Too bad that's no longer possible. 1.5 is an unfortunate step back for the video game industry.

Funny you say that I was gonna buy 2 more vg278h monitors to play this game in surround. Has got to be awesome!!!. Hopefully this gets fixed.

I have noticed in other forums that some people who still have there 1.4 exe files are letting steam update to 1.5 and then replacing the 1.5 exe with the 1.4 version and the game is working for them. I haven't been able to do try this yet(newborn baby, work) but was planning on trying this weekend. Anyone had any luck with this/heard about this?

Luckily in Windows 7 you can right click folder select properties and select previous version of the folder. I immediately saved a week old version to my other hard drive and replaced the entire Skyrim folder. Worked just fine and even my later saves were there. I hope Bethesda corrects this shadow issue.

I'd just like to add my name to a request to get the 1.4 version of the shadows back as an option for 3d players.

I heard about it from the beta so told Steam not to update Skyrim, so it hasn't affected me apart from me not being able to get the other fixes in the patch.

But for the people who didn't turn off auto-updates this could be a problem big enough for them to not want to play anymore until the issue is solved.

Thanks.

Yes, +1 for pleading with Bethesda to get shadows working again! Skyrim was absolutely incredible in 3D, probably the best-looking game I've ever played. It would be a huge loss to allow shadows to not work in 3D anymore.

HeliX has posted a fix for the 1.5 shadows here: http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2012/03/elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-3d-vision-shadow.html

They should be fully compatible with the 3D Vision Complete Compatibility Project I've compiled, just add the shaders and use the new DLL in the link above.

Ideally, Bethesda still reverts the shadow shader code to the 1.4 version but until then we have a viable workaround other than disabling shadows or using old 1.4 executable.

Yeah, you don't even need to use Stereo 3D. Its happening even with those features turned off, like I have with my nVidia card. Its simply awful!

I'm going to grab screenies so people can see just how awful it is. They seem to be under the impression that it's just a quality issue... no. It is UNPLAYABLE without a fix.

And it happens without 3D, without mods, just plain vanilla 1.5 on any setting including the lowest possible.

Those artifices and those horrible textures can't be caused by 1.5 patch. You sure you haven't got bad drivers?

Big thanks to Helix and Chizow!! That fix you posted works great! Back to how it was prior to the 1.5 patch. I haven't tested the fps fix you mentioned, but it doesn't seem like to bad of a loss...

I reverted back to 1.4 and it's fine.

I updated my drivers as well.

Went back to 1.5 and took those screenies.

No fix has worked.

And I am not the only one.

AND, I know what artifices look like. This happens only when moving near an outdoor shadow, or in a shadow. Doesn't happen in sunlight.

And the bad textures are because I set everything to low to see if it would help. Yes, I have tried it back on higher settings.

I can't see anything. It's so dark.

Oh, but ,mine goes over dark like that at night when moving through shadows.

You mean the file that the other threads say is causing the water issue?

try this bShadowsOnGrass=0 to turn off grass on shadows if you may think this is the problem.

Also set fShadowBiasScale=1.0000 , this seems to be helping alot of people with the shadow problems , but i dont have an stereo 3d set up so not to sure what it will look like ?

Also if you have AO turned on with nvida card you can turn that off because that has been broken bye patch 1.5 i think
