Bethesda Said NPC's would Fight over valuable stuff you drop

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 2:49 am

Well here I am, I drop Dragon bone right in front of people, Everybody ignores that, sometimes a person would come and return it to me, but most of the time the NPC's don't react.

Todd Howard said that the NPC's would fight over valuable stuff you drop. Didn't happen.

Only once I dropped some iron armor and a guy came up to me asking if he could use the armor I dropped, still no fights though.

Im guessing this was just another hype?

Howard said that NPC's would react to you dropping items. Fighting over it was but one possibility. The fact that all that other stuff happens is pretty much proof that they didn't lie in this regard.

I've tried dropping flawless gems and maybe weapons, but that still hasn't happened. Someone else got people to fight over a bucket.

it might depend where you drop them as well. i tried some weapons in whiterun and nothing happened but it looks like that video was taken in riften which is full of thieves....makes sense they would all fight over it there.

"That armor you just discarded, I can have it yea?" "Mighty decent of ya." ~Farkas

That was the first time an NPC wanted something I dropped. First time an NPC reacted was when I was encumbered and attempted to pull an Oblivion by stashing my stuff in the corner. An old woman came running up to me from down the street, picked up the warhammer at my feet, and said "I think you dropped this."

I've also tried giving the caravans jewels and stuff, but they ignore them. Seems to only work with weapons and armor. Wish someone would give me the shrouded gloves I lost...

Haven't seen anyone fight yet. Is it to the death? Might try it in a bandit camp (stealthily).

Every time I drop an item in my Markarth house as a decoration, Argis walks up and says "That thing you dropped, can I have it?". It's actually quite annoying.

Oh, that's right. I tried decorating my mantle in my kitchen with the ox's head from Sovngarde. Then Ysolda took it down and told me I dropped it

Someone came up to me and asked if they could have it before they took it. Never dropped anything valuable enough for anyone to fight over though.

NPCs do fight over items.

I dropped some glass armour in the inn in Riften and a guy ended up dead on the floor over it.

I've also seen npcs looting corpses.

I found that if you drop anything in the Bee and Barb Mjoll and that old drunk will fight over it. Saw that big beast of a woman brain him over a tomato I did.

I've had people pick up my items right after I drop them before. Doesn't happen everytime but it happens. And just now I dropped some weapons and the guard told me not to because someone could get hurt.

I was decorating my room in the College and I dropped a bunch of flowers on the ground to put them in a basket, and Brelyna comes up and is all like "Here, you dropped this, lucky I found it instead of someone else!" and then gives me one of the Dragon's Tongue I dropped on the floor. I bet she was referring to J'zargo, who was leering at us from the hallway. I wouldn't trust that cat as far as I could throw him.

I couldn't get the clowns in Riften to fight over weapons, armor, or precious gems. Nor would they return in. Whatever I dropped remained on the floor, forever.

I've had guards lecture me about dropping weapons and when I dropped a sword I couldn't sell in Riften, two NPC's brawled over it.

Look at the massive difference between the 2 videos, at least in the second the brawl starts properly with back and forth between the 2, although still the barman is too busy staring at you to notice. The what happened line is so annoying though...You killed him, 2 seconds ago you fricken goldfish, over that sword still left on the floor.
