Bethesda is screwing my Skyrim expierience

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 8:20 pm

I just wanted to complain for a bit, because of some roadblocks in my playthrough. I just feel like absolutely nothing matches up for me when im trying to role play. Long before dawngaurd ibfo was released ive been trying to create a great vampire build which consist of destruction, illusion, conjuration restoration and a few other skills. Ive read all about Skyrims vampires and their supposed great supernatural power over frost magic. Imagine my surprise and anger when I quickly find that frost magic is not only the weakest magic, but most opponents in Skyrim have a huge resistance to frost magic and being a vampire does nothing to boost frost damage. Also theres this glitch in illusion perk aspect of terror that lets all fire magic get boosted by 10! Do you realise how strong that makes fire? The bane of vampires? It just pisses me off as it sort of ruins the entire expierience. I dont feel right slowly struggling with frost, when fire can wipe out enemies in a blink of the eye but im a vampire and using fire shouldnt even be possible. Then theres the matter of race and affiiations. Im stormcloak all the way but being anything other than Nord just makes you feel dumb as a stormcloak, especially if youre a high elf, which I am because I need every ounce of magic ability as I can get. Plus I love the Dark Brotherhood but their patron is Sithis but I like to pray to Talos for dragon shout reductions and it just doesnt click together, nothing does it feels like its impossible to role play in this game, especially as a vampire. Am I making any sense? Has anyone else had similar problems? Any helpfull suggestions? I fear I may quitlaying Skyrim, I need help ive just put in Saints row 3 and I NEVER play that game! This is worse than I thought.

Sounds to me like your trying to do everything in one character, while you're a roleplayer. OXYMORON

And please, ever heard of paragraphs?

The quest for immersion is a difficult one for those who seek it.

One silly mistake i made was completing the companions questline as a sneak theif khajit. But hey, happens to all of us one our first playthrough - ive got another Warrior Orc account who i will definetly not allow join the dark brotherhood or thieves guild, that wouldnt make any sense and wont do it even though i have the freedom to do so.

I understand some of what your saying, but the whole praying to talos thing but working for sithes thats elder scrolls lore and allways has been so theres not way really for that to work, its one or the other.

You're complaining that enemies in Skyrim are resistant to frost and that you feel out of place playing as an elf in a primarily Nord organisation. The first one should have been a given. It's cold in Skyrim, so mosy animals would be resistant to it. I shouldn't have to explain the second.

Actaully he's trying to be a vampire using magic but to his surprise what has been said about vampires in lore isn't so. That's what it sounds like as that's what he said.

But he also said he wants to join the DB while worshipping Talos.

Anyway, nobody really worships the dread father anymore. :violin:

He's pointing out that in lore it's said vampires are good with frost magic "Masters".

First vampires get no buff on frost, second everything in the game is resistant to it, so now he's a vampire using fire.. ironic?

The frost reduction makes sense... HELLO YOU'RE IN SKYRIM WHERE EVERYTHING IS FROZEN. Obviously everyone and everything is going to have frost reduction. It's like saying "Yeah! Get more cold than you already are!"

Just play a Fire Vampire, nothing is perfect. I think Bethesda doesn't feel like having every type of character met to its exact specs.

In conclusion: You're just nitpicking about really simple stuff.

the necromage perk gives you a bonus as vamp because you're undead...thats something in your favor i guess :P

btw, you're in luck...the new dlc caters to vamps so be patient

Just because stuff is resistant to frost doesn't mean it's completely unusable. Besides, a Master Vampire would never use ONLY frost magic in any given situation...they're smarted than that. Branch out a little bit, use Lightning when something is resistant to frost, or let your thrall minions (Conjuration) do the work for you in situations where frost can't be used. When roleplaying, you have to have imagination. If you were a master vampire, how would you approach a given situation with the cards you're dealt? You wouldn't try to freeze something that can't be frozen, you'd figure out a work around.

There's plenty of lore/RP friendly ways to get around your dilemma, I don't see a reason to quit over anything you've described, OP.

Similar obstacles can be met in real life, would you then blame god for screwing your RL experience?

Strange topic If you worship sithis don't pray to Talos simple lol you're not forced to worship Talos or any god at any point "Life is what you make" and this certainly applies to Skyrim roleplaying...

Thanks you guys. I love Skyrim and Bethesda its great but some things just ticked me off. Hopefully Dawngaurd will really improve vampirism and destruction too. Like some folks said there some ironic things in Skyrim that sort of turn you off. Like I whole heartedly agree with the Stormcloaks cause but everytime I hear 'Damn elves!' Its like what the hell. Oh well....

You want to join the Stormcloaks as High Elven vampire/Dragonborn and you complain that the game is not immersive?

Hint: Don't do everything with one character.

Ahh!! Wall of text! Kill it! Kill it with fire!!!

On topic I think I understand where you're coming from but I guess you're just going to have to either adapt your roleplay style or deal with it...

Thanks alot, really. I dont even use destruction that frequent, I only use it when im swarmed by enemies or need range, when im searching for some extra kick to get me out of trouble and because im a vampire and according to lore I thought ice would be great for role play, it just doesnt have much kick. Illusion is really my forte because there is very little it cant solve. But the things it cant solve are the things that will kill me dead in a heartbeat, in which case I need distance attacks you see.. But I guess I have to sacrifice some perks and branch out into lightning. Maybe I wont help in the civil war at all, Idk...

Skyrim's a cold place. Isn't it obvious why there is high frost resistance?

So let me get this straight...

OP is complaining because he wants to use Frost magic with his Vampire, in a land where the native people have always had a high resistance to Frost, and then most of his enemies consist of the people who come from here?

Is that about right?
