Bethesda tricked us with Dunmer voices

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 2:11 am

On all of the pre-launch videos Beth released, the Dunmer voices were the same guy who did Morrowind's Dunmer. Yet he is not in the game. Why would they do that? They literally had him voicing the Dunmer stuck int he web in Bleak Falls Barrow, but in the game it is another person entirely with the same dialogue.

Avrusa Serethi or whatever has a Morrowind voice, though I haven't seen much of it elsewhere. And yeah, I don't think Arvel had it either.

eh not tricked...but um...Mislead, nothing new really ;p

the real question is -why-, the only people who would even get the reference are peolpe that played Morrowind, and they obviously aren't making the game for Morrowind Folks so WHY put the voice in when anyone who start with Oblivion or never even heard of the TES series/didnt play Morrowind would even get it? or Care?

which is something they have done a lot before the release if Skyrim.

All in all the Dunmer voices are much improved over Oblivion.

Apparently Jeff Baker just likes doing the odd promo. Don't think he has done anything else since Morrowind except one guy in Shivering Isles.

Well, at least the voices aren't like they were in Oblivion. This isn't really a complaint - I love Skyrim. I just find it odd that they did that.

I'm 99% sure he voiced the ghoul in the Point Lookout FO3 expansion.

I've been wondering this myself, although I'm happy that all Dark Elves don't sound like poncy High Elves, it's an improvement, but still - Why? What's so hard about keeping the grizzled voice in the game? Can Jeff Baker only do that voice once a year without tearing his throat apart or something?

Somewhat related, it throws me off when certain Nords have an Altmer sounding voice. Like the Jarl of Falkreath.

So let me guess after getting burned on Oblvion you went off and bought Skyrim to get burned a second time?

Or maybe the sound of the Dunmer voices isn't a deal-breaker? Who would choose to not buy the game over this?

I don't buy these games for the soul purpose of getting off on the MW dunmer voices,

and Oblivion was a very fun game to play.

This doesn't change the fact that if you put something in a preview of a game and it isn't in the game it is dishonest.

EDIT: Not that I do get off on the Dunmer voices from MW :bonk:

It shows that Bethesda was just testing out the MW Dunmer voice, but for some good reason didn't think it was appropriate for Skyrim.

It seems to me like they did a general overhaul of voices in some later stage. Early footage had the blacksmith in Riverhood, for example, with a more American accent. I suppose they improved it with more Scandinavian actors.

Anyways, maybe I'll moderated for this, but it's one of the most [censored] things to complain about.

I don't get why they wouldn't just keep it under wraps then, Talos knows they kept a tight ship in terms of info leaks, surely they could've just released a trailer with only things they 100% knew.

And I think the Dunmer get that Gravelly voice from the Ash storms on Vvardenfell lore-wise, so that's probably why the left it out.

I walked into that area where Arvel was for the first time, heard what I thought was a very human, English-speaking voice, and thought "What the hell happened to Arvel?".

I assume the harsh Morrowind style voice from the pre release vid was simply a placeholder (like Alvors voice was). Perhaps at one point they planned to have it but in the end prefered the current in game voice for Dunmer
