Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:39 am

In a nutshell, Todd happened. See my sig, it extends to the Fallout series as well.

Took the words right out of my fingers.

NV was a joke. It was a piece of **** game that Bethesda let Obsidian take control of. It is not nearly as polished of a game as FO3 and Skyrim. Open your eyes. Sure NV has more content, however, it lacks a decent story line and is cluttered with crap the game could have done without. Like you said "quality over quantity." FO3 and Skyrim out do NV by far. Not trying to be mean here, it is just that I hate how people honestly believe that NV was a decent game.

Alright, now back to the original thread on Skyrim ha ha.

Why do you hate people liking a game you don't? Do you feel that strongly if someone likes a TV show you don't?

IMO New Vegas crucifies Bethesda games in the writing department. Fallout 3 was a fun game, but an incoherent mess in terms of gameworld design and had some cringeworthy writing. Skyrim's world is better designed that Fallout 3, but a lot of the writing is crap. that's a Bethesda trademark.

But I don't hate how some people disagree. It's only a game.

FO3 and NV also felt more alive because there was people traveling along trade routes brahmin caravans, brotherhood patrols. Aside from the overly used Thalmor/Imperials escorting a prisoner or the wandering minstrel guy I encounter almost nobody.

That minstrel gets everywhere. He must have access to fast travel too.
Mind you, the other day I saw those Legion soldiers with their prisoner marching right towards Windhelm. Boy were those guys lost.

What happened? They got much better. RAGE was my only disappointment. I think RAGE should never have happened and that Bethesda would have worked on Skyrim to add much more depth into it.

There are two Bethesdas: Bethesda Softworks that only publishes games, and Bethesda Game Studios that makes TES and Fallout games. RAGE was published by Softworks, Game Studios had nothing to do with it. For better or worse, John Carmack is considered a qenius when it comes to game engines

That is what YOU want, A lot of the posters on this forum do not want the new, they want the old, they want no voice acting, dumbed down graphics for more choices, and are willing to sacrifice a lot of the new stuff for terrible game mechanics, what YOU want is understandable, but what a lot of people that WORSHIP morrowind want, is unreasonable, and never going to happen.
I want old and new things. I think the attribute system could have been retooled with general perks added to that. An example intelligence level if 65 would give you 6 attribute points. Strength of 55 could allow you to carry 36 extra pounds. Speed of 60 increases your stamina regeneration or gives you more fatigue so you can run more. Willpower 60 increase magic regeneration. Something like that.

We could very well have the new spells with the old spells and spell creation. That would have given mages added depth and a deeper level of customization.

I liked Fallout 3 and NV but I like Oblivion and Skyrim a lot more. The Fallout games in my opinion felt like a step back from Oblivion.

I think things like Attributes and skills that only rank 1-100 are a regression at this point.

*Yes, I realize that skills in Skyrim rank 1-100, but I feel that perks offer far more variety and versatility than Attributes and plain 1-100 skill levels ever could. I can make more unique characters this way than I ever could before.

There is nothing "Diablo" about Skyrim.
Attribute could have been retooled with general perks. Spell creation allowed you to mix and design a spell however you want. It could have been added with a pretty animation in Skyrim along with the old spells, then it might not feel like a menu to you.

There is nothing wring with new things being added to the game. It's an issue if they add one thing take away two or three things and try to hide what the took away with pretty graphics.

Skyrim polished? I would got as far to say its more bugged than New Vegas was unpatched. I have only ran into three bugs in NV and several in Skyrim.

Point is people shouldnt have to rely on mods to fix the game. And as for the fanbase, more are one the consoles, so the massive glitches in NV made that game a candidate for a disaster. Im done discussing this with you.

Oblivion, FO3, FO:NV (to an unplayable extent for some) were all released with bugs, specifically moreso on console. Not a few here and there, but a TON of bugs.

What exactly made you think Skyrim would be any different?

A lot of the stuff they tried and 'just missed' on in Oblivion was just thrown out here.

None of the good things we learned about perks from FO were employed.

imho they went wrong by throwing the baby out with the bathwater in a lot of places.

'What, people are running backwards as fast as a horse? Thats it, no more attributes!'

'Oh great, now people are making super spells... Well lets [censored]can spell creation.'

'The speechcraft minigame is tedious you say? Ok, disposition and such are gone..'

'Repairing armor gets tedious.. So lets just let everything magically work for ever!'

It is just my opinion, and I can respect others' as well, but a lot of the things that were just a bit 'off' in OB were not retooled and made better. They simply went through and cut things out altogether.

Skyrim feels like an expansive beautifully rendered world. A world where no one gives a damn if I rip through in pink bunny slippers slaughtering children with a pair of ebony spoons.
