Horses are great for mountain climbing, that's about it.

I could`ve understood the crappy no combat on horse in Oblivion. many people compalined about it and Bethesda had some crap excuse that they didn`t have time\couldn`t make it work. Fine, ok, it`s their first trial with horses. It`s stupid getting off a horse to fight, but fine.

Then we had Warband Mount and Blade that was out about the same time. A sort of Cross between Morrowind and Oblivion, graphics were functional and gameplay was great. Most of all, it had horse combat not only in 3rd but 1st person and it wasn`t even complicated like you might think. It was brilliantly realised. You could fight off horseback with shield, sword, lance, spear even bows! The horses also acted very realistically, running away, sometimes standing about, you could even run and catch an enemy horse if you were quick enough! And this from a Dev company with a 3rd of Bethesda`s resources.

I thought, surely Bethesda will notice this and fix their next game with better horse stuff and combat. I was astonished to find that the horse stuff in Skyrim is not NOT in, but WORSE.

I don`t use horses in Skyrim and Bethesda should be ashamed to screw it up TWICE. There`s really no excuse. Bethesda should be ashamed.

I still play Mount and Blade just for the rush of charging some poor svcker in horse combat.

Mount and Blade's horse combat is better than Skyrim. Talk about a visceral rush! Skyrim is a better game, but that little indie company did a much better job with combat, that's for certain.

I enjoy using the horse to explore and get a better look of the map. Although some things do annoy me like how often you get jumped (way to much) but the MOST annoying thing for me is that the horse trys to fight. I know it can run away when it reaches 10HP but a lot of the time it never makes it to safe spot if there are archers or I don't know a dragon.

Other than that I do like using the horse.

Think about the gameplay concepts and how M&B and any TES game are differnt. Just because M&B does mounted combat well, that doesn't mean that Skyrim could have had a similar mounted combat system equally as well made. Saying "this other game did it" isn't a very good argument. Yes, it's true- that other game did it. But other than that. what does the statement prove?

I love the horses in Skyrim, they are perfect for RP and travelling. I don't know why some folks think they are playing knights, cowboys and expect the game to offer mounted combat.
Comparing Skyrim to Mount&Blade is laughable. One is made around exploration and questing, the other around combat on horses.

I know the cool factor is the thing these days, no wonder why we have weapons in both hands, even magic and a weapon... Devs can not give you all you can imagine.
So stop asking them to remove something, because it's "useless". It works perfect for me and many others and is a great addition to the game.

I bought a horse once! I ran off or was killed by wildlife. Paying 1k for such an untrustworthy steed is a waste of money

I never use horses anymore. When I do, I usually stick to the roads and that makes it less fun.

When you're on foot, you can cut through the forests and find many things.

Just had a go on horses again in Mount and Blade. Damn it`s good! It looks good (in first) and just feels good. The horse runs naturally at a trot and and then you feel the speed as you gallop. The combat is also simple, you let the horse run while you prepare your weapon. The horse merely becomes a weapons platform for you. I still can`t understand how Bethesda blew horsiness in Skyrim. Skyrim deserves better than that.

Then people would complain how there horse just stood there while a dragon was fighting you 1 feet away

And why a horse must fight a dragon? Never seen such a thing.. :mage:

Horses could be better, but they're far from useless. I've only lost a couple horses in all my hours of play and I use them constantly as I'm playing a non fast travel play through. They give you plenty of advantages, but most people seem to like over looking them and just focusing on the negatives.

And can all be done just as well in 1st person which I play in. No game in my humble opinion has done better than these guys even modern games like RDR and Skyrim, etc.

This is definitely the stupidest thing about Skyrim, the lack of mounted combat. I was actually surprised to find out it still wasn't in the game.

I never use horses in Skyrim, didn't in Oblivion either. Everything attacks them first which means you need to babysit them the whole time. Not worth the hassle to me.

In what scenario could you imagine a horse defending its rider? Honestly?

I used horses on two separate occasions when I first started playing the game, and both proceeded to get killed within five minutes of me attaining them. In the last ninety-hours I haven't even considered riding a horse. I appreciate that they tried to implement another means of travel. From a roleplaying standpoint it's nice to have. But, practically speaking? It is utterly worthless. Implenting combat on horses is something they should make the time to do. It would really add a lot to the game.

I used Horses on my Nord Warrior all the time, mainly because I rarely stopped to face wild encounters, and I primarily used it to get to places I needed to be. (I don't Fast-Travel)
On Ra'vhash however, it's a different story. I bought the horse with the intention of using it to get places fast, but I kept passing all of these plants that I needed for Alchemy, and began to regret my decision. Then I dismounted to fight a Troll. (Troll Fat <3) - To my dismay, when I turned around after I had killed the Troll. My horse had ran off and was nowhere in sight. After a few minutes of looking for it, I decided that for that specific character. I would use the horse no longer.
They're almost like a double-edged sword. They're useful, but there are drawbacks depending on what you're going for.

I used the console to up my horses health to 5000 and stamina .

My horse rarely runs away now but does chase bandits and dragons -lol-

I call it Sweet Cream "wolf killer"
Worthy of an Orc.
-lol-

I love the new mouse steering.. I ride my horse all the time .. I never rode them in Oblivion.

Wish I had fraps to show my horse chasing some bandit.. -lol-
"I yield!" -lol- Horse kicks in the head..
