Better without Horse's..

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:08 pm

I was trying to travel between cities riding my horse wich i found it very annoying cos of the wild animals the bandits and anything that can attack you wich happen very often.
Why i must dismount from my horse (stupid) loosing time so i can fight back? And why the enemy keep fighting the horse when i am next to him with 2 sword's in my hand's?
I thought we are in 2012 and tech difficulties such this was easy to fix, or is the engine that beth has choose a problem from the start?

Put it this way even in Ocarina of Time you could shoot your bow from horseback and that game is 15 years old. Bethesda just din't bother for what reason defies all logic to me

Yes tried horse travel too, and just like Oblivion, gave that up very fast, its still a nice touch to gaming, but it still dont work as it should. Only reason a horse travel would be working if youre not planning on making kills or gather craftmaterial along the way or if you play as a pacifist  Wich both, isnt for me, so ... no horses.

They only added them because everyone was whining they wanted horses.

Like alot of bad aspects in the game.....Bethesda only added them later cause people iddn't shut up about them.

Horses are cack in Skyrim, just like they were in Oblivion. Until Beth can do horses and horse handling at least as good as Red Dead Redemption, they should leave them well alone.

Have you played Daggerfall :)
Horse combat is not in as it would take a lot of time to implement well, and they did not want it if it was not well done.
Add that followers don't have horses and it's an no option for me, has stolen a few but will not buy one until modded.

I have not played Daggerfell

If the reason this feature is not in because they didn't have time to implement it well then I wonder why werewolves were included cause at their current implementation hey aren't very good either

I would LOVE to see RDR horse control in Skyrim. However, in RDR the horses were a huge part, so making them work great was a must.
I really didn't expect quite the same quality in a game that's not focused on horses, but I didn't expect a downgrade...

simple fixes that would make horses much better:
-horses can be told to wait like companions or stabled, they then woupd only warp around with u when ft when you actully had your horse. i use ft for loot dropping, home saving ect. and i hate how my horse appears out of no were a certain black horses ruined one of my playthroughs, if i get another horse given to me im going to fus it off a mountain side.
-horses are only the target when you are on one.
-horses dont attack stuff, they run away.
-horse call/whisle works if horse is in similar area.
-horses have bags/amour so they have storage cap and a reason for loads of hp.
-Fp horse riding.
-Shooting spells and arrows from horses. fairenough to sword swipes but no projectiles?!
These things are immenial but would have made them epic fun.

I could`ve understood the crappy no combat on horse in Oblivion. many people compalined about it and Bethesda had some crap excuse that they didn`t have time\couldn`t make it work. Fine, ok, it`s their first trial with horses. It`s stupid getting off a horse to fight, but fine.

Then we had Warband Mount and Blade that was out about the same time. A sort of Cross between Morrowind and Oblivion, graphics were functional and gameplay was great. Most of all, it had horse combat not only in 3rd but 1st person and it wasn`t even complicated like you might think. It was brilliantly realised. You could fight off horseback with shield, sword, lance, spear even bows! The horses also acted very realistically, running away, sometimes standing about, you could even run and catch an enemy horse if you were quick enough! And this from a Dev company with a 3rd of Bethesda`s resources.

I thought, surely Bethesda will notice this and fix their next game with better horse stuff and combat. I was astonished to find that the horse stuff in Skyrim is not NOT in, but WORSE.

I don`t use horses in Skyrim and Bethesda should be ashamed to screw it up TWICE. There`s really no excuse. Bethesda should be ashamed.

I still play Mount and Blade just for the rush of charging some poor svcker in horse combat.

It's done pretty well in Assasin Creed as well. But implementing that in a sandbox environment would be quite a challenge for the developer.

Warband Mount and Blade is actually a sandbox type of game too.

I'm not sure why people even use horses, besides roleplaying. Too much trouble for what you get out...

in ocarina of time u could sit on your horse getting attacked and not take a single bit of damage, and your horse would basically one hit anything it bumped into.

explain to me how that was better...?

Yarr, horses svck the big one in Skyrim indeed.
However, try one of the faster horses mods, they actually become somewhat useful, general traveling and getting the damn thing out of harms way before you engage combat etc :bunny:

The only useful horse for me is shadowmere because he's a tank and can easily face most enemies while I shoot arrows from the back, and yes, I think the ability to attack on horseback would be a nice addition to this game (they should've had it from the beginning IMO).

Somehow horses in Skyrim are worse than Oblivion. Maybe it's because I'm forced into 3rd person when riding them. In any case Horses in Skyrim are useless.

Horses are going backwards.

Daggerfall: First person and you could attack on the horse.
Oblivion: No more attack but first person
Skyrim: No attack nor first person xD

Yeah I kinda agree. They were a bit shady for a while before release about horses in Skyrim - saying they wanted to get them 'right' after games like RDR were so well realised, and now we have Skyrim we find that horses are completely useless!

IMO they could not have no horses in Skyrim because it would feel weird in the setting, but they did not do a good job with them (as they promised they would if they were to be included).

*I still love the game though*
