BF3 vs Rage?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 10:55 am

Anyone launch that game and see how stellar those graphics are? How smooth it runs? How much more entertaining the story is? How powerful the frostbite 2 engine is?

Rage is 21gigs large, mostly textures (which svck with or without the word "mega" prepended to them). BF3 is 11gigs. Rage looks half as good, and runs half as well. I know this is the all new and exciting id Tech 5 engine but if this name is mentioned in any other game title its going to be dead at that moment to me.

P.S. Wheres my mod tools?! The community is the last chance at resurrecting this game.

Get out of here Battlefield noob. If you don't have some specific problem with RAGE to post here then find some forum with Modern warfare noobs and troll there.

The thread is genuine though, even if it may look like trolling. His enquiry about the effieciency of the game and engine is completely valid - Rage has a lot of textures that look like crap, and the game is very static. Rage is like a painting of art, but then that's just it. It doesn't move or anything, all the lights and shadows are 'baked' directly into the textures so you can't interact with them, which obviously leaves out the possibility for destruction at the level seen in Battlefield 3.

Specific problem? Got tons of specific problems! Check my P.S. for one.

Rage has a lot of textures that look like crap.

Look like crap close up. They are good from far, far from good.

Honestly, BF3 is a great looking game but I have zero interest in warfare games now days. Just played too many and the market gets flooded with them. I don't find the military all that awesome and I prefer plots that don't sound like a Tom Clancy novel. I might DL it just to see some of the purty destruction...

Also, once the community gets their tools I am sure Rage will be stellar. Just have to wait.... yep.... waiting.... *sigh*

Seriously? I pre-ordered Battlefield 3 because it looked awesome and all that stuff from trailers. Huge damn disappointment, on 1920/1080 everything maxed out, and I don't see the graphics as being that awesome, on the contrary, I find it rather bland and weak. The storyline is very weak, with some parts of it copied from CoD: Black Ops, and the gameplay ain't great either. Also, it has some problems with Amd drivers also (nothing new here, from my point of view, since Amd bought Ati, they're getting worse). Overall, I find Battlefield 3 rather weak, especially for all the media that has been around it. We shall see if Modern Warfare 3 will have anything interesting in it or just a lot of advertising like the fore mentioned. Rage has it's good sides, if we ignore the tons of bugs (seriously haven't seen a game released with so many bugs as this one), and it is worth playing, at least for curiosity to find out the pathetic ending that it has. At least it has a longer storyline that you don't finish while drinking 2 beers, and the gameplay and feeling are rather ok. At this point, I'd rather replay Rage with all it's bugs rather than Battlefield 3.

If you want to compare game engines to Rage...Crysis 2 with the DX 11 enhancements and high res textures is the best looking game I've played. I think Rage looks fine. Yes, the textures are not the best for todays standards but the environments are immersive. I really like the artwork and level designs in Rage. The unique textures create a much richer environment. More physics would have made the game even better but I enjoyed Rage quite a bit.

Agree, too much hype for nothing just like Black ops! The MP gameplay was worse than COD. I mean they took the worst parts of COD and implemented it in Bf3.
Bf3 SP is very short like 6-7 hours. Luckily I played the beta and deleted it in 20 minutes.
Rage would win cause it has a big SP.

I have no interesting military shooter games. they seem all similar. nothing is really innovative. honestly, last military shooter I have is MW2. that's all. even I am still interested in shooting game, I try to find some different style. more likely something is involved in sci-fi. it always makes me excited. Rage is good. I like it very much.

For most FPS fans there is no SP. Mainly because SP in CoD is awful. That's generally why most people will compare this game to Borderlands and Fallout because it's based on SP gameplay.

Anyway, Rage has a nicer backdrop than BF3, and from a distance they both look really awesome. They both have cool screen effects blood/water/whatever and really awesome smoke and sand effects.

BF3; however, has superior textures. This is obvious. But Rage really doesn't look that bad, only close up.

BF3 destructible environments is a huge plus.

So to conclude this incoherent comparison created by my opinion I say:
rage better SP
BF3 better MP and slightly better graphics

BF3 is just another in a long line of games that have a sole purpose to "just keep costing you money"

games like these are like the lottery,a tax on the gullible and poor.

remember the way games used to need an IQ over 20 to play,
it used to be the joke about the lonely kids mastvrbating in thier rooms 24/7,these days the joke is about a fat kid covered in pizza sat at a screen playing a game that requires only 3 buttons.

rig a camera on a timer
start up an online MP shooter
when the camera clicks an hour later take a look at the picture,
if that doesnt cure you..nothing will ;)

The camera idea is brilliant. My girlfriend always makes fun of my gamer face.

Funny thing is, more and more people say that. First I was was pretty much on my own saying that it doesn't look THAT great. It's just extremely hyped up and when I see game magazines having more than 5 BF3 ads on their main page, I really have to question their trustworthiness and the quality of the reviews.

sebal, funny thing is a lot of players say the graphics look amazing on BF3. I cannot believe it, I use a huge tv as a monitor, 1920/1080 and ultra settings, everything maxed out from both videocard settings and game itself, and the graphics seem pretty much the same quality as modern warfare 2. The reviews were paid to be that good, seriously. As for storyline in fps, from my point of view, MW2 has one of the best ones, I finished that game at least 10 times for the awesome feeling of actually being there that that game had. Maybe I have a bug or somethin with BF3, and it might look better after a patch or something, but right now, from my point of view, mw2 is a lot better than battlefield 3 from almost all points of view. Graphics, gameplay, feeling, storyline, everything. Rage is not a good game to compare it with, since it's a different kind of fps. If you guys wanted to compare Rage, the only similar game that comes to mind is Borderlands, but that one is cartoonish. Rage has pretty ok graphics, although bugged beyond the legal law, the gameplay and feeling are pretty good, and the story is quite interesting, making you want to find out what happens at the ending (unfortunately, biggest epic fail ending for a game that I ever saw)...

Rage with 1920x1080 full details looks great. BF3 with 1920x1080 looks better. Gameplay of both games are very different. I play Rage and BF3, thats the best solution. (Nvidia GTX 560)

This reminds me on when idiots started "Crysis vs. Bioshock" threads everywhere back in 2007. Totally differend games that had nothing in common other than being shooters.

I played now like the first few levels of BF3 on PC (DX11) and actually the textures don't look very hi-res. They seem to be heavily modified by shader/material definition that makes them look smooth and by using bump/normal/parallax mapping heavily. DX11 seems also to allow more efficient threading of texture streaming as explained in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMaL6j7Ry6c ... comparing the visual quality Crysis 2 (with hi-res texture pack and DX11) looks better than Battlefield 3 in my opinion. Rage looks awesome in a lot of places but it's just the close-up that svcks.

I dislike the excessive use post processing in Battlefield 3 with all my heart though - the lens flares and bloom are just ridicolous.
Way worse than the colored shadows in Rage.

Hah, blame the artists for the colour grading. Even the Battlefield fanbase dislikes it.
