I have to say Fallout New Vegas was extremely disappointing. It was basically Fallout 3 with a new paint job, less content, and the story actually ends when you complete it. What the hell is up with that?

Didn't Fallout 3 stop at the end of the MQ before the Broken Steel add on?

Yes, and it was a better ending, sacrifice yourself to save D.C, with BS, (hehe BS), that sacrifice feeling just went meanningless

I didn't buy any brand new games this year, but of the ones I did buy, I've been disappointed by...
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising - Way different from the first Operation Flashpoint, which is a terrible, terrible thing. I loved it the way it was. Also the controls were really strange. Bottom line, I have Bad Company 2 and that takes the cake any day.
Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition - I couldn't get into this game at all. It wasn't the graphics ( I installed a mod to drastically improve them ) as some people would like to think, it was the gameplay. I just didn't like it at all.

I know exactly what you mean about Dragon Rising. Movement was dreadful, felt more like someone either shuffleing or trying to walk heel-to-toe. Horid command interface, made ArmA II's look friendly. Nice particle effects though.

I felt similar when first playing Deus Ex but once I found a play style that suited me I really enjoyed it. How did you play it? May be worth picking up again in a year or two and coming at it from a different angle.

There was a response earlier about Skyrim, "don't knock it til you've tried it." That would mean buying it first. No reason to fork out £30 for something I'm disapointed with the direction it's going in.

They got rid of a ton of weapons like the dart gun, railway rifle, deathclaw gauntlet, etc. The story was complete crap, you couldn't explore as much and the mountains had those stupid invisible barriers.

@Woodelf79 yes but when you get to the end you get the option to leave and continue whereas in fallout new vegas once your start the end quest you can't go back unless you have a backup save. I remember once when I was doing the Caesar's Legion end quest and I accidentally saved over my backup and couldn't go back.

And you yourself are doing such a smashing job preventing this from becoming an Obsidian vs Bethesda topic.

You know, we got it the first time , you dont need to talk about it, dont make this post another Bethesda Vs Obsidian/FO3 Vs,NV/ Old Vs, New thread, it was a pain in the Fallout board

The invisible barriers I'll give you, yeah, they were horrible. But everything else... Well, the weapons that were removed got a whole bunch of other weapons in their place, not to mention upgrades and different ammo types, so there was a LOT more content in the way of weapons. Also, I don't think the story was crap at all. You had to think about some of the choices you made a lot more than FO3's black and white views of morality (Do you be a goody two-shoes and activate the purifier, or do you be a complete [censored] and poison the water before activating the purifier?) The only thing FO3 had that was better than New Vegas was the world design. I've tried to go back to FO3 after playing New Vegas and I just couldn't do it.

To keep this post on topic though, I'm going to jump on the DA2 bandwagon. It was okay, but nowhere near as good as it should have been.

I agree.

As for the "more or less" content argument. I think NV has less content in the sense that most of the quests are just fetch quests, and aren't really that much fun. A lot of clothing was recycled as well, and the new clothing was just lame.

Mass Effect 3 - because it's not out until next year and I'm getting very impatient!
(Not that I'd have much of a chance to play it if it came out in November.)

I'm currently playing through Mass Effect 2's DLCs to get my fix.

Somewhat belatedly, I was disappointed with GTA IV, which I picked up in the Steam sale for under £5 (inc expansions) because I just didn't get on with the game mechanics (which for me mostly involved driving the car repeatedly into the wall and having to replay the same bits over and over and over). Shame, really, because the game world is intriguing.

Play the console version of GTA IV if you can. It's far superior to the lazy PC port.

I actually thought GTA IV was very good, NOT as good as San Andreas but still very fun.

And I agree with ME3 what's taking so long.

GTA IV PC port makes me so angry. I could max it out on a freakin' HD 5850 but it won't let me, when it is maxed out it's not even attractive, and AA doesn't work :banghead:

I didn't like it on the Xbox 360 either though.

I haven't been disappointed with anything this year, probably because the only games I bought so far are Witcher 2, Assassin's Creed II, and Two Worlds II, and only Witcher came out this year. I'm not disappointed in it, though I stopped playing it part way through my second character.

They got rid of a ton of weapons like the dart gun, railway rifle, deathclaw gauntlet, etc.

Plasma caster, mantis gauntlet, multiple powerfist variations, varmint rifle, anti material rifle, sonic emitter, grenade launcher, heavy machine gun, grenade machine gun, machetes, cattle prods, throwing weapons, fire axes, silenced smg, rio tshotgun, hunting shotgun, recharger riflle/pistol, incenditry grenades, etc. They added more. I didnt even include dlc ones and the mod system.

The story was complete crap,

Yeah so much worse than 200 year old water still irradiated (even though it should be fine) and the moraly grey BoS turned white knights and their giant robot. Dont even get me startedon the terrible atmosphere.

you couldn't explore as much

So what ? I guess that means minecraft is the best game ever, explore all you want in that.

and the mountains had those stupid invisible barriers.
Fallout 3 had conveniently placed rubble forcing you into metro tunnels. So much better.

@Woodelf79 yes but when you get to the end you get the option to leave and continue whereas in fallout new vegas once your start the end quest you can't go back unless you have a backup save.
Yeah because its so fun when you have done everything and dont have closure, and have a shalow ending.
I remember once when I was doing the Caesar's Legion end quest and I accidentally saved over my backup and couldn't go back.
Your fault for only having one save there.

Anyway.

Skyrim.

The more I hear, the less I like. Still after oblivion it would be hard to be worse.
Oh and I also tried portal for the first time recently. It was dull imo. Dont see the appeal, go bored and have no intention of buying the sequal.

Less content? There was more content.

it has more quests, and about the same number of weapons as FO3 with dlc. but other than that the rest of the game was very lacking, much content was completely ignored, such as random encounters, details among the wrecked and burnt out buildings and a significantly smaller map.

however, not all the dlc has come out yet so in the end it probably will have more content.
