So does anyone else here use Blender? I just started and here's a knife I made http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/8509/kniofe.png

Apparently it looks more like a butter knife then a combat knife

How long did it take you to get to that level of modelling skill? I really need to learn to model but every time I try I make very little progress, get demotivated and give up.

Yeah I've been through that. Just persevere through it until you made the model and don't try and get too far ahead of yourself and make something too complicated. That's my first model and it took a few days. It still needs UV wrapping and texturing before it is ready to be put in anything though

Well I have Blender installed and I have some projects in it that I have been working on, but I don't think "use" is the proper term. I would say that I ravage Blender. I followed a few tutorials, but when the guy on the video selects a vertice, holds down ALT + LMB and move the mouse right and left something completley different happens than when I do it. By the end of it the guy in the video has made something beautiful, while what I have done is a sin against nature. Give me a block of clay and I can make something awsome, give me a cube shape in Blender and all I can make is an ugly cube. I have a great respect for all you who do modeling, it is beyond me.

Tutorial wise Exorince recommends http://www.blendercookie.com/. I haven't had much of a look at it myself but he says he uses it to make his beautiful creations

I've been using Blender for a while now, and while I'm no expert at it, I think that I do a pretty good job.

Just to show as an example, http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/Trading%20fort/wilddaggerattemptb.jpg a dagger that I need to finish working on. I've actually made quite a few weapons and other odds and ends for MW.

That is an awesome website. Here are a couple of screens of what you can do after watching those videos: (I watched the videos and I've created both of those meshes from scratch)

Thanks! I'll try this site out.

Modelling is the one thing I haven't got a good grasp on yet, oddly I found animations to be much easier.

I mess about with blender from time to time. If your into that sorta thing its definetly worth sticking with and persevering.
What i was doing was downloading some oblivion mods, and just have a look at some of the custom stuff and see how other people have done it. You cant see how, but you see the finished result etc. Amongst reading tutorials/watching vids etc

The part that usually stops me is UV unwrapping and texturing. Im pretty hopeless at texturing, and i rarely get past the uv unwrap stage anyway. Just cant seem to understand it

Was trying to find a tutorial page i used, but cant find or remember it :\

looking good, just a bit thin, The handle part anyway, imo. Might just be the angle you see it from though.

Nice d'k tahg!

I agree that the handle looks like it is flat and thin, other than that thoug I'd say you are heading in the right direction.

Thanks, I'm tempted to remodel and start with the hilt this time

Is that a Klingon dagger?

It appears so. I modeled it originally afterhttp://www.swords24.eu/product/description/2333/The_Phoenix_Knife(UC726).html

So... am I the only one who thought this was about the kitchen blender?

:slap: I put 3d modelling as a sub heading for a reason

Both created from Blender Cookie tutorials I re-watched a while ago. The M4 turned out amazing imho but that's probably not thanks to me since all I did was follow the tutorial :P

That M4 is looking pretty awesome. Might need to have a look at that tutorial now :)

Edit- Eh, you need to pay for that one
Edit again -Alright, so, you need to pay for the vimeo plus so you can watch tutorials, but for certain tutorials (The citizen ones) you need to pay extra?

The tutorials and site look quite good, but i think ill stick with the freebies.. :whistling:

All of the videos are free except for Citizen Exclusives (which unfortunately includes the M4 series)

You don't need to pay for vimeo plus to watch the videos.

Anyway, I'm thinking about trying to do some high poly sculpting in Blender later today, I don't know how good Blender is for sculpting but we'll see :P

Odd. I get this message for every video i try to view. Tried making account etc, but still the same thing.
Ive tried going to the Vimeo plus page, but it says $9.95 a month.

Sorry

The creator of this video has not given you permission to embed it on this domain. This is a Vimeo Plus feature.

No big deal anyway. Busy enough trying to do the tutorials i have already. Nevermind trying to learn zbrush at the same time :)

Have a look at that for sculpting, if you havent heard of it already.
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/forum.php

Though, it is expensive but..... :whistling:
