Blood Dragon.. best way to kill ?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 6:14 pm

Just keep block stunning then hitting them once or twice, repeat until Dragon is dead. Usually in a rapid fashion once you get the rythm of it.
If you have Ethereal Shout then use that when they are attacking you from the air if you can't bring them down and just get stuck into them once they land again.

One thing I've noticed is that arrows tend to miss dragons in flight. Aiming ahead for a moving target plus compensating for the arrow's arcing flight makes for a difficult shot, so I suggest trying spells. Firebolt, Ice Spike, etc are great because they don't arc or drop and have a very long range. But if you have a high enough archery skill you can slow down time while aiming for an easier shot.

Once you have them on the ground it's pretty srtaight forward. Staying away from their face is generally a good idea though.

My first blood dragon went down like most of my other first dragons. I let the guards take care of it then rush in for the final few swings.

Beware, if you hide in a small hut the Dragon can still do it's one shot kill move right through the roof if it is facing you. As I found out earlier this week.

Do they all swat you with their wings if you're too far back from their heads?

I only noticed it recently when
Spoiler
trying to trap Odahviing because I was walking all around him attacking before I figured out what to do.

Yeah they will, but getting wingslapped hurts a lot less than being bitten/shouted on at point blank range, or getting whipped by the tail.

First don't be in a hurry to kill your first dragon! Wait and prepare yourself. If you are kind of warrior, smith and increase enchanting and alchemy. Improve your weapons and armors. Then go get SPELLBREAKER. That shield saved my life many times against dragons and necromancers. I just hold it against the dragon and it protects me from fire and cold. Never run off of magicka like a ward spell. I always jump on the dragon when it lands holding my shield and kill it with blade or axe before it can blow again.

Early on, potions to protect you from frost or fire. Later on, enchantments on armor to do the same and possibly potions too. Then if you're near the head, be prepared to move back when the head moves forward to keep from being eaten. Frost destroys your stamina, so if you're a long way away, you'll find you can't move to the dragon without getting reamed with frost again and again. If that happen, keep using your bow or magic and/or drink potions of stamina (you'll need a lot of them).

In the early days, I'd save as soon as I saw or heard the dragon, and use lightning bolt or my bow while Lydia used her bow. Once I saw what kind it was (fire or frost) I would drink a potion of protection. I'd try to arrange for there to be other targets (like guards) around to distract the dragon. Then I'd either keep lightning bolting it, or I'd move up and hit it with my two handed sword.

I had a time or two where I got caught in a bad situation with a frost dragon and just couldn't win. I had to move the difficulty level down enough to allow me to close on the dragon (temporarily). A better player could have probably thought of a way out of it.

Like.. i read that you can get the bow of banishment or something at Fletcher... and disenchant it and then use Banish to make daggers and stuff worth tons... i just cant find it anywhere lol :( ill check this store though and see if i can find what youre talking about... im on console ! 360 weooo
Two things about Banish:

1) It's the most 'valuable' enchant so it's gonna' be rare.
2) Banish only works on summoned creatures, but since summoned creatures die if their 'master' dies you might be better off just going for the Summoner.

Edit:
Yeah they will, but getting wingslapped hurts a lot less than being bitten/shouted on at point blank range, or getting whipped by the tail.
I'm a Heavy Armor wearer (with enchants) on my 1st character so I'll take the bites/breath weapon, but I'm curious about the tail swipe so I may have to check that out on the next dragon fight.

If I do a Mage type I will most likely stay the F back. :P

Khajiit, barehanded with the fists of steel perk, and fully upgraded ebony gauntlets with the "gloves of the pugilist" enchantment.

Then punch it in the face.

It does show up but it can take a loooooong time. My first play through maybe half an hour. Second play through had to over two hours of entering and exiting, wait two days rinse and repeat. Note, you can also ask the Blacksmith (beside the fletcher) which is where I found it the second time. Be patient it will pop up.

I'm not a better player. But I don't usually die from dragons. My secret? If you have no choice, run like the wind!

I hit one of those as a random spawn walking between Darkwater Crossing and Ivarstead. I managed to beat it by casting spells, but it involved lots of running and ducking behind cover, using frost resist potions, and summoning a flame atronach three or four times. My level was 9 or 10 - tough fight.

Heh. You're FAR from the only girl into this stuff.... I'm probably older than your grandma, I've been into this stuff since the mid-70s (BEFORE computer games), and since the mid-80s when I first got a computer and games.... well.... believe me, the game publishers get a LOT of my money.

Dragon slaying 101: don't wast your arrows tryen to shoot em out of the sky you don't have a chance of hitten em.Instead lure them to where they hover and pelt the fu## while they blast at you ( take cover or down a potion or two)After a few pass the Dragon will get over aggessive and land.
Once on the ground it's a matter of staying right next to a back leg, here the wing slap, bite, and tail smash are next to ineffective and just keep swinging till it dies. : )
Rinse and repeat if needed. : )

Surprisingly, I've actually never died to a dragon. Mainly because I was always expecting to die so I kept a closer watch on my HP bar than when fighting other mobs. :P
