The quest in "Windhelm" regarding the murders. There are certain objectives that I cannot seem to do.

1) Examine The Crime Scene.
2) Get Assistance From Jorleif.

I know that for examining the crime scene I need to follow the blood trail to "Hjerim" but that hasn't helped. Also there is no option in the talk menu for attempting to get assistance from Jorleif. When I started this quest I was in a rush to do a Stormcloak quest so I quickly spoke to the witnesses and the guard and carried on. Now the body has been moved to "Hall of the Dead" and the guard is missing. I'm assuming that this is a glitch.

What shall I do?

I appreciate that but I'm seeking a solution.

I am having an issue where you cannot even find the woman in the graveyard. I have left and came back repeatedly and the quest does jot even begin.

Bethesda needs to seriously fix this bugged game.

I understand that they're bringing update 1.3 soon but I wouldn't assume that's going to be a fix for this quest is it?

For examining the crime scene, you need to activate the corpse, if you haven't done so, and talk to the Windhelm guard standing there.

No its not. Updates for quest are coming in January. Look at the sticky at the top of the software problems about what 1.3 has.

I just wished Bethesda took more time to polish this game before release. This game needed about three to six more months being polished up before release.

As I mentioned the guard isn't there anymore. Do you have a better suggestion? Apparently there is supposed to be a "Strange Amulet" on the victim's body also but once entering "Hall of the Dead" her body is empty! This is a very confusing and frustrating quest.

300+ hours in, I can't buy house in Windhelm. The quest Blood on the Ice? HA! Been in and out of Windhelm thousands of times...

I agree. There's so much they could have improved upon. Skyrim is a good game featuring many faults and programming issues.

At the stage where you have to examine the crime scene, you should see blood splatters. The guard there would say something about it leaving a trail. Even if the guard isn't there, you should be able to follow the trail of blood.

Just go into Hjerim, I am pretty sure that you can just straight up go in and investigate. Not 100% though.

I've tried that already. I've followed the blood trail over and over until I've reached "Hjerim". Nothing happens. I can either pick the lock or use the key given.

Then go right in, by either picking the lock or getting the key.

Then look at the things inside. You'll find your next clue.

I think you may have misunderstood me. I've already finished this quest, but not completely. As it mentions in the main thread I'm missing two incomplete objectives and fail to complete them.
The problems I'm having are for these objectives to show complete:

1) Examine The Crime Scene.
2) Get assistance from Jorleif.

I follow the blood trail but it doesn't appear that I have completed that quest. I speak to Jorleif over and over again but there is no option for me to ask him for his help. Capisci?

Is the quest still active, or is it listed in the greyed-out completed quests? If the latter, then forget about it and move on.

What do you mean by completing the quest? What have you done so far?

Have you found the amulet and both the journals?

Here's the case. I've started this quest and decided to continue it later after finishing other quests. I came back to it because you need to have this quest completed in order to decorate your home in "Windhelm". I managed to finish the quest but not completely (e.g. "Examine The Crime Scene & Get Assistance From Jorleif" were not completed even after the quest was completed). So I'm looking to figure out how I can make sure it's fully completed because I cannot seem to ask Jorleif for his help as there is no option showing. And even though I follow the blood trail to it's ending point the "COMPLETED" sign at the top does not show for finishing inquest objectives. I want to finish those two inquest objectives but it doesn't seem to allow me to do so. Does that make sense?

Yes and a great game is underneath. I hope the new patches take care of iodide for us.

Have you been inside Hjerim, or not? and if so, have you found all three items required for 'examine the crime scene' - amulet, 2 x journals? Jorleif wont tell you any more until you have these items.

Yep, try to get inside Hjerim if you haven't been there already.
The key can be picked from Tova or Torbjorn Shatter Shield
