Bolt-action

I'll use the Drognav, I've had my eye on it a good long while as it resembles one of my favorite weapons from MAG.

Pretty sure we found out it was called the Barrett because somebody who went to PAX called it that... not sure if that's it's actual name though.

yah another fellow mag player and r u talking about the first sniper rifle for s.v.e.r if so i dunno how u lik tht lol its 3 shot kill slowest fire rate of all factions first tier snipers and has 10 bullets per clip when others have double that

I think that the Barret will be a good gun to use to shoot an enemy then finish him/her off with a secondary weapons

I gotta be honest, the Barrett seems to be shaping up to be a novelty weapon rather than practical. And if it's anything like .50 cals in other games you won't be able to silence it, either.

If hit heads reliably, the Barrett seems like the way to go. For the rest of us, the Drognav seems more forgiving.

I plan on using the "Barret" to start out with, along with a slow fire pistol until I feel like I've adjusted comfortably. After that I may switch to the semi auto, but it'll depend on how effective the Barret turns out to be.

Barret
Barett
Baret

The first one looks best to me. Any could work though. Or they could swap a letter out and make it Garrett or something. We already know the reference they're making.

Parret? :D

This sounds about right. For my medium soldier-type character I'll likely use the Drognav as my secondary, as a finishing weapon, or for shooting enemies that are far away. If I ever feel the need for a Light sniper-type character (I'll probably at least try this out, although I'm more interested in an SMG-toting Light, since he'll have more opportunity to utilize awesome SMART moves in combat) , I will probably try out the PBarrett, and pick off wounded people that are engaging my teammates.

That's where the bolt-action shines when compared to the faster Drognav; enemies will often be wounded, so you'll likely be able to get more one hit incaps with the more damaging bolt-action. I'll have to wait and play the game, but I think the Drognav will be more reliable, but the Barrett may be more fun/interesting.

Lol whoah, where's the punctuation buddy haha. Here's some facts:

  • The Drognav is based off the real-life DSR-1, the same weapon as Raven's Kinmark SRS (Escalation DLC bolt-action rifle). SVER's first sniper rifle the SASR is based off a weapon called the Dragunov, but the Drognav has no resemblance to either.
  • FYI, SVER's SASR has the lowest recoil and highest rate-of-fire of all starting faction's, hence it having the lowest ammo capacity and being weak. Raven's H M 90 is only marginally stronger and in most cases will take 3 shots to kill too. Valor's Mk14 Mod 0 EBR has the highest recoil and lowest rate-of-fire of all starting sniper rifles, but will kill light armor players in 2 shots, even w/ 120 HP.
  • SVER's re-skinned T1 sniper, the SASR M, has the fastest rate-of-fire of any sniper rifle in the entire game, and will kill light armor players in 2 shots even w/ 120 HP.
  • DID YOU KNOW? Raven's re-skinned T1 sniper, the H M 90SE, is debated as the best sniper rifle in the game. Just like Valor's equivalent, the Mk14 Mod 1 EBR, it will kill light & improved light armor players in 2 shots - except it has better stability and rate-of-fire.

Trust me. I played the game for over 900 hours across 3 accounts and 10 vets, about 300-400 hours were spent using the DMRs (starting sniper rifles) and their re-skins. I stopped playing after I got the Platinum trophy and capped all 3 of my accounts, and the lag became too unbearable to play casually anymore.

I'm by no means a bad sniper, but Brink looks too enclosed and fast-paced for my level of headshot skillz. It seems like you'd have to be a total beast to pull off quick kills with it.

According to Cinna, who played at one of the Expos, he spent a lot of time testing out the long rifles, and said that the weapon based on the SR-93 is named the Barrett. We have yet to see this confirmed or denied by another source, so that's how it stays for now.

Yep, but firing it quickly is madness.

I only did so well because used the DMRs like semi-auto ARs with scopes. I'd rumble with the AR/LMG users in CQC but could still use it's ranged capabilities for mid-ranged combat and counter-sniping. I also used the .50 cal to counter-snipe camping snipers since in most cases they wore light armor could be OHK body-shotted... I'd jump around in my medium armor that would take them 2 shots to kill me, waiting for them to pot-shot and expose themselves, locate them, then splatter them all over the walls or shrubbery. But when it comes to headshotting a moving target I'm terrible haha. I can't use the bolt-actions in BC2 to save my life...

Im amazing at the bolt actions cuz i never miss. When my target gets away it is usually cuz i didnt shoot him in a vital area of his body.

I'm not very good at long range, anyways my comment is that snipers will work best at softening the enemy up and forcing them to take cover, so that the guys with automatic weapons (being closer) can jump over and finish them off, also, using something which does 75% damage per shot against someone with 25% health is a waste of ammo, which seems to be a pretty rare commodity on the ark.

I personally think it wont be called the Barrett. But something with different spelling. It will most likely play off of the name Barrett though. If you have any info on this please reply.

If you look on confirmed gun name lists, There is actually a bolt-action light rifle called the Barnett.

I always loved using bolt actions (was even decent at it once upon a time) Cod1 and Cod2 somewhat even in Cod4. But in this game, it's all about SMART and the in your face rush tactics :D. Should still be fun though. Do we know how many bolt actions their are?
