I am bored playing skyrim... how can i enjoy it?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 2:28 pm

Hi all! I'm a console player, on PS3, i bought this game at 11.11.11, i was really excited!!
Skyrim is reallty cool i can do a lot of things, wow, i'm surprised! I never played Bethesda's games, well, i played a bit fallout but i get really bored after a while... i hadn't this problem with skyrim.. i come from one year of WoW, (really loved this game), I was looking for similar game for console, and i saw the teaser of skyrim, really cool! a wow offline, nice idea!.. But my PC don't support skyrim so i bought it for PS3..
I saw a lot of trailer and gameplay next days i bought the game. After that i started... "OMG now i play skyrim, finally!".
My first character was a Nord, I don't lost a lot of time making up him... played until level 12 then stopped and try new ones...
this is my briefly story...

My main problem is: i can't play a character more than ten levels... why? because i get bored and i want to start a new character... there's a lot of combinations and i don't know which one is better, i'm undecided what perks use for, what is better for him, there're the dovahkin, the assassin, the mage, the necromacer, the 2handed, the battlemage.... omg!! i can't decide which one play...

I played 21 characther, most of them bored me at the first level or simply i wrong to do somehting and i restarted a new one... the highest was at level 15....
why i can't play this game!!!!??? i really love it... i see a lot of people playing as it is, simply, without care about what happens next... but no!! i can't... i don't know how to enjoy this beautiful game.... please help me... i'm really annoyed about that :(

thanks!...

sorry for my bad english i'm italian!...

This game takes some patience to enjoy. It's not fast paced. I get tempted to keep making characters too. But I found that if I start getting bored with one, I change something up. Try a new weapon, or a skill I haven't used. There seem to be lulls in the levels too. I start getting bored at about level 12, then if I keep playing, somthing happens and I'm all into it again. You need to kind of "live" through your character and take time go just go hunting or gathering ingredients or exploring dungeons on your own. Good luck

Perhaps it's got less to do with the game... Do you easily get bored in everyday situations also? When you are with friends doing something fun do you get bored?

You lost me there... this seriously made me cringe.

If you really want to enjoy the game, you have to first realize 1 drastically important thing. This game is not at all like WoW. This game is like..... Skyrim.

I can see where you are coming from, WoW is addicting because every time you level, it gives you new shiny options and armor. Think of Skyrim as more of a "real world play through" of a game. I.E. : When i get a year older, no one send me shiny things and tells me I can now fart fire.

Try to enjoy the game more for what it is instead of playing it like WoW. If you want a game like WoW, play WoW and give me your copy of Skyrim ;)

well the way i see it, work on skills you would like to increase or try out new things, for example...

im Level 36 about 40 hours through Skyrim and i didn't even open the Magic menu till well over 30 hours into the game, i never enchanted items until yesterday. But after finishing the Companion quests i really felt like i needed a time out from quests so i decided to learn how to enchant. Im pretty poor at Alchemy as well so i decided to teach myself what items go with what and so on. Thats the best advice i can give anyway. Try it out, im only now just learning basic magic and starting to use Shouts and im 40 hours in.

Sounds like you're burnt out to me. Take a break from Skyrim. Play some other games for a while. Like anything, if you spend a lot of time with it, it will become stale.

No need to get defensive about it man, if you post something asking how you can enjoy Skyrim more, maybe you should take the advice given. I don't mean to be rude about it if I came off that way, but if you are going into this game with the predisposition that it is an offline version of WoW, I am not surprised that you are not enjoying it. If you really want to enjoy the game, play the game for what it is and you will. But being a gamer, I have seen many people lose out on some really awesome games because of games like WoW. It really would be a shame if you did not continue playing the game because your expectations were not met because you are playing it like another game that is not remotely similar. Try to completely forget about WoW and just play this game as it is, you will soon realize that there is plenty to hold your attention and plenty to do, but it is not at all like any MMORPG. That being said, if you don't enjoy it, don't try to force yourself to... just don't play it.

What I am trying to get at, is not all games are for everyone. Face it, WoW is an awesome game if you have a shorter attention span (nothing wrong with that), because it gives you little things all the time to keep your interest and gives you things to work at to progress. Skyrim is more of a game that you devote hundreds of hours to and just do what ever you want, whenever you want. If you find yourself loosing interest quickly, maybe it is just not the type of game that suits you. But you really can't ask others how YOU should enjoy the game more. Sounds more like you are forcing yourself to try to enjoy it because you made the purchase, when you really just don't

Try to create one character and only pick the things you figure as the smartest to have. Then you stick with your decision. You do the same throughout the entire game. Whatever you do, whichever choices you make, you stick with them. Once you do this will you "dive" into the world of Skyrim.

As long as you keep creating character after character have you not yet learned how important it is to make a good decision. This is what the game will teach you if you let it.

Tough luck buddy! I was just like you once, as is with all Bethesda games. Luckily I've invested in a good PC, so I have an endless world of oppertunities to fine tune the game to my type of style, i.e. mods, dev console, etc.

What I did when I first started playing Skyrim is just restart the game over and over again, never hitting higher than Level 15. (One time I got to Level 24, though)

I realised it's because I can never have a master-at-all character, and this is how I want it in RPG games. So, what do I do? Well, as I level up my character, I select my perks, do everything naturally. If on some Saturday I feel like playing a master pickpocket, I go around stealing arrows from guards and cash from shopkeepers, then buy stuff back from them, etc. and, seeing as I don't have any perk points, add them via the dev. console! At the moment, my current female Nord character is Angelique, who is now on Level 52, with pretty much most skills at 50-60, with a few exceptions. (One handed is 100 :P) I have more or less 5 perks average in most skills, and tend to not become overpowered too quickly, thus keeping the game fun.

Also, no. 1 tip for keeping a game fun and exciting, never, ever EVER grind skills. Craft a thousand iron daggers? Feel like restarting. Make a billion Restore Health potions. Feel like restarting, etc. etc. etc.

Since you rebooted your character a few times already you should have a general idea where you want to go. One thing I really like to do is plan a character out for a max build. Try planning out a build to level 81 to get the max number of possible perks using the Skyrim Calcuator site, then play the build all the way to level 81, that way you are going in with a solid plan for a character build and you can focus on playing the game rather than wasting time thinking on whether you built your character right or not.

You can also be diligent with your saves so that if a perk isn't quite what you wanted or expected you can always fall back to right before you taken a perk and just choose another or save it for later.

Well, it's too bad a few of you guys never seem to get past level 15 due to boredom. For me the game really started to gain traction and get more and more interesting around level 15 or 20 or so. I think the game is really at it's best between level 20 and level 50. Right now I'm still playing my very first character toon and I'm only at level 45. Sure I could start a new character and play a different style but I'm not done with this character yet. I've been patient with the game and enjoy just walking and running around and exploring the world. There is just so much to see in Skyrim. If you are bored playing the game the one thing I would suggest is to stop playing the quests and just try to explore the landscape for a while. Do some hunting. Take along a pickaxe and do some mining. Go for a swim, there's lots of underwater treasure in Skyrims waters. Just enjoy the landscape and it will reward you.

World of Warcraft, for all the things it does well, distorts your inner "gaming personality".

You are the main character now, no longer subscriber #1,630,000, you should embrace it.

Min/max does not exist in Skyrim... play the game with whatever build YOU find most comfortable, it's the beauty and key characteristic to the ES series.

No they are no nerds, they just take the game as what it is. A Role Playing Game, so they create a Story for their Character after what they are playing. In Skyrim it is sometime pretty hard because sometimes you get forced to do the evil side of a Quest or you have to skip that. And if you skip every "evil" Quest you will miss a lot.

when i got bored i started a rogueish charcter... srictly rogueish... no dragon shouts, no magic, no nothing... just your brain and your sneak and combat skills.

the most fun for me was starting out at a pathetic weakling, you cant sneak a foot without getting detected... and then gradually getting better at it, until you can pass by a pair of freggin open eyes and not get detected--im not a full supporter of walking in front of someone without getting detected, but its still fun.

Create a custom class by pre-planning all your perks, creating a back story, and setting restrictions on your game play, amping up the difficulty, and above all- take your time. Here's an example of a custom class: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1348517-swordsman-long-back-story-included/page__pid__20319550#entry20319550
