X - Box Version

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 11:58 am

I have played Oblivion, Fallout 3, Morrowind and a bit of Skyrim on my computer, and I haven't even tried any on a game console. I thought about buying Skyrim for my X-Box 360 but I have three questions-

1. Are all of the additions in the patches for the computer included on game consoles? (Bug Fixes, spell kill cams, mounted combat, ect.)

2. Is it that different playing the game on a console?

3. Is it harder to navigate through the in-game menus to select or view something, such as the inventory screen, the inventory screen while looting a chest or, other item and the skill tree screen?

All the OFFICIAL patches are in, but the biggest downside would probably be the lack of mods. Mods can enhance the game exponentially. However, besides that, there isn't too much downside to the console versions.

1. Yes, all of the patches are at parity on the 3 platforms. But there are no mods on consoles, the core experience is still very well done on xbox (my platform of choice)

2. The controls are very well done on Xbox, the frame-rate is a fluid and constant 30fps, not as good as some pc's but it's still great, you won't be disappointed.

3. The menu is basically the same on consoles, BUT you should know there are only 2 hotkeys on consoles. "left" and "right" on the d-pad. The favorites menu works well and makes up for the lack of hotkeys.

All things considered, the xbox version of Skyrim is great, you won't be disappointed. Some PC gamers might berate you for simply playing consoles but I won't, the xbox version is perfectly capable and competent. :D

Oh and a bonus plus for xbox, you get your hands on the D:C a month sooner than the other platforms!

I'm unsure whether it applies to all DLC's tho, so can someone confirm?

If you get the Kinect also, you hardly have to open menus at all. Controling things by voice command is really amazing.

The game experience on the Xbox 360 should be a smooth one. That's the platform the primarily built the game around.

Well, there's nothing really bad about it.
I do get a bit jealous on how much more beneficial playing on a PC would be o.o
but on the bright side, my odd, mostly glitchy achievements wouldn't be as beneficial if I could just Mod it.
for Example : I have succeeded in giving Derkeethus an unlimited amount of exploding Arrows O.o
and in Oblivion, the things I do on it there on Console seem like mods, lol.

Before Skyrim was released, they announced that the first two DLC's will be timed exclusives for XBox 360. We don't know how many there will be totally, but "first two" suggests to me that they planned more than that. Presumably it means that the latter DLC's will release at the same time for all platforms. IIRC, New Vegas' first DLC was a timed exclusive for XBox 360, but the successive DLC's release simultaneously on all platforms, so this will probably be similar since it is probably the publisher who decides those things.

Cool, thanks for the info!

Oh, and only if your PC can handle it. No use playing a laggy and low quality skyrim just for mods.

It depends on if M$ is willing to fork over more green to get timed exclusives in the future. And they will be. I'm an Xbox player. I love chilling on the couch with a 50 inch LCD and surround sound and playing Skyrim. The biggest downside is mods.

Exactly. The only reason I'd get it for the PC is if I had a machine that could run it at max settings (with additional Anti-Aliasing buffs through the video card, targeted ini tweaks that go beyond what the startup/in-game menus allow, etc.). If I can't make it look spectacular without frame-rate issues on the PC, I'll just stick with a console.

The xbox 360 can run the game well. What you miss out on (as mentioned) are the mods, especially the unofficial patch. If Oblivion is any indication, there will be plenty of bugs left when Bethesda move onto Fallout 4, and the modders will be the only ones working on game maintenance.

Why on Earth would you want it for the console when you already have it on PC? I can see a hardcoe fan getting it for the 360 and then upgrading their computer to play it on that later instead, but not the other way around. o.O

If you hook your PC up to a television and use a controller instead of keyboard and mouse, aren't you essentially getting the XBox 360 experience? I'm not sure its worth buying another copy.

This is the first Bethesda game I've played on a console. Overall it's been a great experience. I do miss the mods but I've also gotten a lot more quality play out of the vanilla game since that's all I have. The Kinect is actually better than hotkeys on the PC because it does even more and allows you access to things like item sorting in chests and giving your followers direct commands by voice instead of through a menu. It works great and really adds a lot to the game.

PC is great though if you have a really nice one. The graphics look way better and of course the mods as everyone has said.

The console graphics are fine though. If it's all you look at then it's all you really know and the game still looks fantastic. I've been a lot more pleased with it than I originally thought I would be. I'm still not great aiming with the stick but that's ok. It adds a bit more challenge to the combat. ha ha

Try the 360 version. I personally am not going to waste money on a pc just for mods. I'm perfectly happy with the way things are on Skyrim. I got a nice 60 inch hd tv, surround sound, a nice and distanced chair, and not have to worry about spilling drinks or food all over something. I love 360 to me its better than pc. Eventually I promise you mods will come to console. Count on it!!

I played Oblivion on PC for about 80 hours leading up to getting Skyrim for Xbox.

Oblivion was so unbelievably fun, I had a complete blast, didn't use any mods at all.

Really, the only reason I play the Xbox version is because I don't believe that my computer specs could handle it (1gb ram, 3ghz P4, 512mb graphics). I have been very very happy with my experience on the Xbox, however I often miss the hotkeys and walking macro, the keyboard and mouse view feels more immersive to me, and load times were a lot faster.

I recently started Oblivion again on the PC, however I'm using about 7 mods this time and I am really enjoying it, it feels fresh and at the same time it makes Skyrim feels fresh when I switch over.

If I could play Skyrim on my PC, I would switch over in a heartbeat, however I know I'd feel bummed about having to start my game over I'd probably quickly get over it. Everything to me seems better about the PC experience, I'd even leave behind the Kinect feature in replace of the mods!

I am playing Skyrim on the PC, and have started on the X-Box. Being of an older frameset, my X-Box skills are noob level. My daughter has taken the X-Box disk, rather than me rage breaking it, for a while.

i am thinking of playing through on X-Box soon on the lowest difficulty level to get my old hands used to the new movements and multiple finger operated buttons. After I get used to being able to run all ten fingers at once, i will up the difficulty.

it is a more "pure" experience on the X-Box, as you have minimal capability of cheats, so you have to play with all the drawbacks of being a player (get to town to sell off more often, get healed more often, ensure you make potions often enough to deal with the various enemies).

I thought what I had played on the X-Box was as good an experience as on the PC, just I have not familiarised my hands to the mutliple buttons associated with combat as yet.

try it on the X-Box, you will be rewarded.

My biggest complaint with playing on 360 was the lack of mods and the insane loading times every time I entered a cell. It was ridiculous, and it ruined the game for me.
