A brilliant way to help people stop smoking.

I'll tell you what I told the tobacco-selling lady : "Gimme a pack with the open heart surgery, I don't have it yet".

and how did she respond?

Horrible idea. I'm sure every person that smokes knows the risks. Why waste money on these labels that won't do anything?

Gotta catch 'em all? Deathemon.

Just pointing out how asinine it all is. Fact : I have smoked god knows how many times today, and I cannot tell you offhand what today's gross pic is. Or even the scary label.

*checks* Today's special is "smoking kills", with a side-dish of gross tumour. M'kay.

Just bloody stop already. Either you cash in the gouging taxes on every pack and say "you're stupid, I'm going to make money on your future cancer", or you really really want to get smokers to quit, in which case you ban smokes, or at the very least, exert a form of control on the nocivity of the contents.

Putting gross pics ? That's just another instance of saving face.

Thats a very good point. Instead they can waste it on something else like one of those warm, fuzzy, feel good school assemblies that have a smokeless dragon as their mascot... http://www.dandydragon.org/kids/whois_dandy.asp. Any dragon that can't breath smoke is a friggin alligator...

but you cant force people to not smoke. some people do and don't care that its bad for them, its not right to tell people what they can and can't do with their own life and then enforce it, even if its bad for them.

Sorry, I was trying to be funny. I obviously failed.

If I still smoked and we had those pics here, I would totally try to collect them all. But I'm morbid like that.

It just makes cigarette packets look like a thread from a certain imageboard. I've only smoked a few times and those pictures didn't put me off at all.

The only scare-tactic that ever worked for me was Drivers Ed. in high school. Only, it didn't work for how they intended. They were showing videos and black and white photos of gruesome car accidents to scare us into being safe, responsible drivers.. Well, it worked. I've never drove a car. And I'm 45 years old. The one that got me, was a black and white photo of a man driver, leaning forward with the steering column sticking out his back. Dead of course. I still have nightmares...

Nah, the whole pokemon/morbid thing was behind my initial statement too, no worries. :D Just went on a rant tangent.

I totally did it in Lewis Black's voice in my head. Weird.

As a former smoker, I guarantee this won't help people quit, but I do think it will help detour people from ever picking up the habit. Nicotine doesn't kill people. It's all of the other chemical additives in the smoke. For anyone trying to quit, I highly recommend E-Cigs.

Most of you are non-smokers. Most of you want people to quit smoking. Why? How does me smoking even effect you? Why do you care if I drop dead from lung disease?

For the second hand argument - WALK AWAY! (Or ask them not to do that near you...)

Second hand smoking and go to East Europe and try telling everyone there to not smoke around you and see what happens.

Uh ya. I remember seeing a video about that. Showed some nasty gruesome photos that scared me into driving safe and barely over my speedometer.

I have been seriously thinking of ways that companies could do to make smoking less attractive, but haven't come up with anything at all... Seriously! No one is going to be able to stop or come up with a way to stop people from smoking. it just can't be done. First of all, tobacco is one of the oldest (maybe even the oldest) ways America has made profit. We have had people smoking in America even when we were british colonies. There is no way to just stop smoking. I mean if it was a brand new idea maybe, but since it is so old and people have been doing it forever, I highly doubt our nation is going to make smoking an unpopular thing to do.

Erm..So if they're not going to leave (Or resort to violence? I'm not sure how to take this statement.) why don't you leave? You're the one putting yourself in that situation.

They won't resort to violence they'll just laugh at you or ignore you or tell you that they have to smoke. How could I leave when people smoke everywhere should I just stay at home forever?

EDIT: I guess I could just put on a gas mask for the whole day.

Wasn't second hand smoke proved to be far less dangerous than originally thought anyway? I can't find the particular study but I'm sure I remember hearing about it.

My parents smoke tobacco. I personally don't see the point. However, I don't preach that they should stop. It's their vice. They're not hurting anybody except themselves. While I would be very glad for them to stop, I don't want to force them to.

I'm not sure how it is in Europe, but over in the states there are places where it's illegal to smoke. Lot's of 'em in my state. In fact...Every public building!

(So what? I'm bitter that I can't smoke at the bar anymore...Probably voted through by people who don't go to bars...)

What gives you the right to carelessly pollute the air that I have to breathe in order to stay alive? Some (not all) smokers seem to be only concerned with their right to smoke wherever and whenever they please, well, non smokers have a right to not be subjected to the smell of cigarette/cigars/pipe tobacco or what have you. We have rights too.

Try to at least be considerate of those of us that don't wish to be subjected to this everywhere we go.

Yeah, well their tactic worked way too well on me. Oddly, it's not even other drivers I'm afraid of. I'm afraid I would cause an accident and kill someone. I have nightmares about that, also. :(

I developed asthma due to my dad smoking and bronchitis. Of course I am not everybody, and am not saying it will happen to everybody. I'm not bothered by it. And I don't care if my friends smoke around me. In fact, they try to be more courteous when I'm around, and I'm like, Who cares? Don't change on my account.

This is where things get strange. We both have the rights to the air. You have the right to free, clean air. To any and all. And I have the right to blow my smoke in it. Whose rights outweigh the others'?
