in my opinion there is no point in bringing back the arena unless your going to have several arenas with a proper touring competition and tournaments.

Sure, if you think a Gladiator / Thunderdome participation venue is entertaining. I'm glad they didn't include one in Skyrim, The Arena in Oblivion was the most shallow main questline to be found. Skyrim needs more depth in its adventures , not more repetitive bash and slash stuff. It could work though if they were to add some new weapons and techniques, spears, crossbow's , and had random landscapes / obstacles / firepits etc, more along the lines of Boethia's challenge to get the firebrand sword.

No point in bringing it back?! It was *censored* epic dude. Fighting a random leveled opponent was interesting (for the most part). Altough I would have preferred they did the champion fights dfferently. Fighting Minitoar lords got pretty old.

I for one thoroughly enjoyed teh thunderdome.

Edit: Typo

There is no need to bring this back as the arena fit for Oblivion because it had a roman feel to it.

Skyrim has a viking feeling to it and therefore we're all barbaric in nature and culture, granted Morrowind had an arena in Vivec, but it was hardly ever used. mostly for certain quests, and house redoran. now there is a mod that does an overhaul to it and turns it into a true arena, which is actually quite fun.

I should also mention there is a nice arena mod on the nexus for Skyrim currently, it's rather buggy last time i checked it out ( was awhile back ) so you may want to check up on that.

A nice underworld type system would be pretty neat, maybe have it run by the thieves guild in a way? add some gambling and cards drinking games if possible? some brawls would be pretty easy, i know this type of thing has been done before, for example i have a Morrowind mod that does this type of thing, it was pretty awesome too!

i smell something great here....

Yes, bring it back! Doesn't have to be like Oblivions, but something similar would be sweet. Don't think they will, but it would be nice. I'm off to go check out if there's a mod for it.

Hell, why not make so it has different tiers of combat. For example, there could be simple Hand to Hand brawls, gladiator matches (on a related note I'm halfway through the movie Gladiator as I type this), and the traditional man vs monster battles.

Not every part of the game needs to have some kind of quest line. Being able to take place in a public match for fun and profit could be just that.

According to in game books there is an Arena is Solitude, I remember when I got there I was so franticly searching for it and…well…it was very tragic when I found out they decided to go against their own lore.

Same happened when I started looking for the thu’um college at Markath

I like the idea of the arena, but needs to be better implemented than in Oblivion. In Oblivion you quite quickly worked up to Champion- the end.

There needs to be a radiant time Arena where you get constant challengers of varying strengths that just keeps going.

I did like the betting thing, that was good. Rooting for the Blue or Yellow side was enjoyable and somewhat creepy...

The Romans had an Arena in every major place (even Britain!) It was entertainment :( as well as a message of Roman might-so it makes sense that Skyrim should have one.

i would like an arena but they would have to do it different than oblivion, in oblivion it kind of felt half assed and slapped together. the battles werent all that exciting. when i first entered the arena i looked around and it seemed a perfect place for an epic battle unfortunetly non ever happend

Eh...I never cared for the arena in Oblivion.

But...a lot of people liked it...and I think it kind of fits the whole Nord thing.
So yes, it would be nice if Bethesda put it in a DLC.

I'd like an arena, but not where you fight the same ogres/mintaur lords after you complete the related quest.

After you finish it once, perhaps after a certain amount of time, there would be new challengers to fight, from multiple races/backgrounds.

Loved the Arena, was disappointed because the strong and hardy Nords didn't have one, or any kind of fighting ring (that I'm aware of at least). Also, I loved gambling on fights, and with the new combat it would actually be interesting. Imagine this: when you beat your opponent to the ground, you look up for the crowds verdict, thumbs up or down, or chants of "KILL! KILL!" then you get a reputation because if you always kill even when they tell you not to, then you look like an ass

I'd want it if only so I could roleplay as a slave-turned-hero like Spartacus (the proper Andy Whitfield version, not the new guy). Already got a gladius added via a mod... Urgh, would be entirely too awesome.
