Brink Vs MAG

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:53 pm

I must confess i had to google MAG as i had no idea what it was, but then i am a PC gamer!

Metacritic score of 76? I'd hope that Brink would beat that.

I don't HOPE that Brink will beat that.
*puts on glasses
I KNOW that Brink will beat that.

Unless by some chance in hell it doesn't beat a 76. Then we're screwed :nerd:

76 is still pretty good, and it's not the number that matters, it's what they think is wrong with the game.

Yeah that's true. MAG still has tons of playability even with a 76. The only reason I fear that score is because I have such high hopes for Brink

One would think that a person would have to have played both to have a solid opinion. Still none of us have played Brink this like all the other vs threads are really pointless.

I've seen this a couple of times now, but why are people comparing MAG and Brink?

Also, never played MAG, haven't played BRINK yet, I know I should have some biased fanboyism juice in me but I honestly can't tell you.. although BRINK looks like the type of game I'd play for years like TF2 while MAG looks like a game I'll for a couple of months and quit :P

You know,I think it's funny that it took anyone this long to say that.

Personally, while I have a strong love hate relationship with MAG,I'm ready for something new and better.Killzone 3 wasn't it,nor was Homefront or Crysis 2.From a playability standpoint, they all fell short to me in comparison to MAG.

Just from what we know about Brink,I think it has a real potential to not only topple MAG,but even the highly vaunted COD and Battlefield games.

He's to hoping for something truly great!

  • I played MAG (since NZ/AU release) for 900 or so hours, racking up near-on 1.5 million XP across 3 accounts. I capped 12 times across all 3 factions. I went from being one of the useless newbies to becoming a relatively elite player who frequently topped scoreboards. MAG was the game that properly introduced me to FPS games.
  • I haven't even played Brink yet.

My opinion? Brink > MAG

Brink looks to have better-quality gameplay, customization, UI, art style, audio, graphics... and is actually well-balanced.

Or perhaps they all have the same point, "selling" the game to newcomers. If what I know is CoD then I'm going to want Brink placed in comparison so I have some idea of what I'm getting into and if I'll like it.

Well I got somethings to say about this topic...

1. Its gonna be a biased opinion because your asking a question about what game is better on a chosen game's forum.
2. Brink isn't out yet, can't judge something we haven't played

I would say that Battlefield games, particularly Bad Company 2 with four kits remarkably similar in concept to those of Brink, is the bigger "competitor", if you will. Most of my XBL friends are from BC/1943/BC2 and a number of them are interested in Brink. Both are class-based, teamplay, objective-based games. They are the only two shooters I anticipate getting in 2011.

I've been thinking about getting MAG for awhile but it seems its main draw is the 256 player matches and I doubt at this point in time you could get a full match going.

Plus I just hear it's kind of mediocre.

Plus I'm trying not to buy any more games until Brink.

According to my logic, neither of them because Brink isn't out yet and can't be compared with any other game yet.

True, but that dosn't mean we cant use what gameplay we seen in the vids, and compare it with MAG?
(Also my friend reconsidered selling MAG and brought Brink, smart fella)

Different concepts, different focus, different purpose, no comparison.

Brink is a small-scale squad-based tactical team shooter. MAG is a large-scale warzone-spanning shooter.

Brink focuses on fast-paced arcade gameplay. MAG is all about a near-future realistic feel.

Brink gives players incredible freedom to customise evey aspect of their characters. MAG is generic in this respect, emphasising the players' feel that they're part of something bigger than themselves.

The only major area of similarity is that they try to reward players well for using teamwork, or at least following a chain of command, rather than rushing out and doing their own thing. From what I've heard, it sounds like MAG hasn't done this justice as well as I'm expecting Brink to, though. Without playing both, I can't really speak too confidently on that though.

MAG is unmatched in scale and complexity. The complexity is the best part.
MAG also has a great leadership hierarchy, and each kind of leader has their own special abilities, communication channels, and strikes to direct, and help their team.

Brink May be prettier and has much more customization, but MAG has more.... substance.

I'm so glad you're surveying an unbiased source.

Also, Brink is better beyond comparison. I don't know what your friend is on, but he's doing a lot and needs an intervention.

There is nothing like being in an organized clan going into a game via Clan Deploy (clan party system) with over 30 members, and having everyone work together and follow orders.

HI KAGEHOSHI, I remember you from the MAG forums!

I dunno about MAG having more "substance"... and Clan Deploy got pretty boring when 9/10 times it was a steamroll (KEQ officer here).

This, I'm afraid. This is the Brink forum, filled to the brim with Brink fans.

Of course we're going to vote Brink.

mag has the worst multiplayer and it is so boring. At least brink is fun

Wrong and wrong, both are opinionated. Personally it took me 900 hours to grow bored of MAG. And as for quality of MP, judging by what's actually on offer to you as a player though in-game objectives, customization and progression, MAG's probably got the best MP on the console market at the moment - just not the sheen, polish or technology to pull it off effectively.

Brink, definitely. MAG was just too ambitious for its own good. A game like MAG would dominate once we get holodeck technology though.

Merge the two; SMART system/High level of customization + Large scale maps and many players/Both open and closed quarter areas. Perhaps with players more in control of the vehicles.
