Brink Vs MAG

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:21 pm

Which game would be better? (To be honest me friend is addicted to MAG and is stuck to think MAG is better than Brink :swear: )
MAG has a very good ammount of players in a match
Brink has the SMART system (Which pwns all):gun:
MAG is team-based and is huge on tactics
Brink has a better with Character Customization

I'll just let ya'l take it from there, please forgive me if this has already been posted..

MAG has good amounts of players, but from what I've heard of everyone who played it the animations and overall graphics were terrible. BRINK does not have this problem.
BRINK is also purely team-based, so even the "lone wolves" have to help their team somehow, or take the risk of coming in at the bottom of the boards every match.

I'm so glad you're surveying an unbiased source.

Also, Brink is better beyond comparison. I don't know what your friend is on, but he's doing a lot and needs an intervention.

Honestly, aside from battle scale the two are very similar in how they are going to be played and who they are going to be most enjoyed by. I'm more interested in Brink, but more because the smaller teams and SP/CO/MP with smaller numbers means it's going to be easier to get into games with my friends when we have a little time. Plus with 20 levels instead of 60 it's easier to keep ourselves within a similar competetive zone even when one of us ends up playing a lot more.

Why hasn't anyone complimented you for comparing two games of the same genre. Kudos to you for comparing to games that are actually SIMILAR!!!! Here's your turtle. :turtle:

Brink, easy. But of course this is a Brink forum, so......

However, as someone who has played MAG a good deal, I can assure you with 100% confidence that Brink will be the superior game. Unless you just absolutely can't stand matches with fewer than 64 players, that is. But aside from player count, Brink beats MAG in every way. Teamwork, graphics, movement, customization, balance, coolness, etc.

haha ive been following Brink since early 2010 and I can honestly say after reading 30+ previews and watching 20+ videos, that Brink is going to be the best thing since the call of duty series and sliced bread. I rate Brink is going to op the floor with all its competitors this year, including battlefield three and Modern Warfare three!! :hubbahubba: :celebration:

Graphics and customization, no doubt, but movement is dependant on which kind of movement you prefer, balance and teamwork we're still waiting for the game to prove, and coolness, well that's just opinion :P

Of course we should note that MAG is a year older, and was targeting the massive scale warfare as it's main goal (causing many of the graphical/customization short comings).

Yes, just my opinion and predictions of course. I liked MAG, don't get me wrong, but aside from the huge player count it didn't really strike me as an amazing game. It was also terribly unbalanced for a long time there in the beginning. Brink on the other hand /looks/ to be extremely well balanced from the get-go, and great in all those other areas as well.

I don't understand why people do these kind of topics on these forums lol, it's like going to a sports car show and asking someone if they like dirtbikes better then sports cars.

Anywho, BRINK all the way, i did like MAG tho because it showed that PS3 can have ALOT of players, which most games fail to do, which is why i was disapointed when BF3 said they are not doing the same amount of players for consoles as they are for computer, they are doing 60+ players or something for pc but like 24 players on console, which kind of hurt me decision if i will buy it.

But anywho, Brink all the way.

Amazing is partially dependent on what they're aiming for, and 256 guys in one game all battling it out is pretty amazing as far as that goes, but I agree beyond that it needs work.

Out of curiosity, what balance issues did you see with MAG?

Well it's long since been patched (heavily) into a pretty balanced and great game. The LMG's used to be really overpowered though, and the maps were unbalanced too. SVER's maps are harder to attack than the other factions'. Oh, but I think it's still too easy for a high-level player to really crap on a low-level player, simply because of all the skills, attachments, and gadgets available to him or her. The basic equipment is pretty bad compared to even the mid-level stuff. New players are really disadvantaged.

I had a lot of fun playing Mag for a while. When it first kicked off there was a known and accepted balance/imbalance between the PMCs one was more accurate, one more powerful but less accurate, and the last in the middle. and everything was fine.. The maps played to the home PMCs strengths.. There were highs and lows through the patches, Then Zipper told everyone that if they were able to make one set of maps (Sabo) neutral that they could make more maps because they only had to make one map for the mode..

Here we are a year later and where is that new map, they made two new game modes that no one plays. Then made all game modes neutral, so most folks that play just go and join the top PMC and there is really no reason to go to the other two because you play all the maps anyways.. Now that Zipper is working on S4, Mag is on their back burner not getting any attention what so ever..

The last thing that always got me upset, was no matter how good your squad/platoon was playing, had another 32 knuckleheads that could lose the game for you.

As far as a game that is based on teamwork and completing missions 8 > 32 any day..

This, I'm afraid. This is the Brink forum, filled to the brim with Brink fans.

Of course we're going to vote Brink.

I haven't played MAG before, but Ive had friends who have.
I'm just going to put this out here, but really? MAG vs BRINK?

There is no real reason to compare the two. And also, your friend needs to open his mind.
Ive told many people about Brink, and 8/10 times the response is "oh I don't want to pay for another crappy shooter."

You can thank some of the developers of the more recent FPSs for ruining the genre.

Well that was a bit exagerated NaPalm, and I disagree with you, but I do agree Brink would basically destroy all shooters, but not everyone in the world is gonna throw out CoD or MAG and then just play Brink forever (Even IF I wish)
anywho, not everyone dislikes MAG, sure it cant beat Brink but that dosn't means it ruins the FPS genre except for HomeFront.... epic fail that game was...

I didn't say MAG was a crappy shooter, I said people tell me they won't buy Brink because they think its just another crappy shooter.
Which is ignorant if you have never researched the game. I applaud MAG for still being active.

And ignore the flame icon, I just use it instead of - Napalm at the end of my posts.

Your posting this on the Brink forums so of course people will say Brink, and if someone says MAG I will seriously wonder why you're here.

MAG was an excellent idea, but it was too ambitious. The technology just wasn't there. Brink focuses much more on personalizing your character and smaller scale combat. Just imagine if years from now, they'll be able to combine the two. The SMART system and all the character personalization with the large scale combat of MAG. I just came up with a game idea and I JIZZED— IN— MY PANTS!

I stopped playing around the first major DLC (maybe 3 months in) because I had finished all the trophies and my friend just wasn't keeping up.

I always found the unbalanced maps to be part of the charm and never got why it was such a big deal. SVER was easy mode because defending was easy and attacking was comparitively easier.

I heard a lot about the LMGs, but outside of the random spray and lack of range limitations on MGs and SMGs, I never felt that I was losing out to them on any real basis.

It's not that they were unbeatable weapons, it's just that they were clearly superior to everything else. Virtually everyone used one back then.

I must confess i had to google MAG as i had no idea what it was, but then i am a PC gamer!

Metacritic score of 76? I'd hope that Brink would beat that.
