Broader melee package

Slide is basically hitting the crouch button while sprinting. You can spam them like crazy, but on the whole, you'll end up being a little slower that just sprinting normally. It's really there as a defensive maneuver (smaller low target), to get under low things, and as a melee attack...don't worry. it does no damage at all, and i don't think anyone would complain of it being overpowered. it's part of the broader melee package that's I'm not supposed to talk about but which has a very different approach than the standard shooter fare. I imagine there'll be stuff revealed about it in the new year.(I'm assuming it will knockdown/stun an opponent, or something similar) - Rahdo

So we are going to be able to slide tackle an enemy. Interesting, I kinda like the idea of sliding by and slicing an enemies Achilles tendon and then they have to hobble the rest of their life.

I also see bigger guy tackling some or ramming them into a wall.

Brink is really looking to have to really revolutionary ideas to the FPS. First SMART and now different melee options.

So what would you like to see in a Broader melee package?

The guy in charge talked about in the video showing smart i think.

I would like to see punches, varied gun butt animations and maybe a grab move or a push. 12 year old operative standing on the roof of a building. Press button to give them a push and down he goes :D

Should only work for mediums and heavies, i dont think a light has the strength to push over a 20st heavy called Butch.

A stealth move would be nice where you must not be seen by anyone to intiate it, and when you sneak up behind someone you grab and twist their neck, or stop them from breathing, this would take a couple of seconds to do, so it wouldnt be instakill, as long as there are teamates nearby this wouldnt be overpowered. The best a teamate could if they were near woul be to avenge them.

seeing how "headshotting" doesn't really go hand-in-hand with "MELEE package."

Seeing as the OP stated these melee moves can't damage anyone, I'm not going to sneak around enemy lines randomly pushing enemies over. I'd therefore headshot them to at least be somewhat effective.

I would like to see kicks implemented as an attack rather than standard melees... for example, a dropkick if you melee while airborne.
I understand the slide is like a kick, but I want a solid kick animation.

Sounds like an assassination from Halo Reach. Maybe it could be a form of backstab but without a knife.

I for one think a light should be able to jump down and land on a heavy. Riddike style.

Lol why a kick? There are no female characters, so don't be one. I want to punch all the angers. :foodndrink:

Not typical chicks aiming for the nuts style kicks (Mirror's Edge), but something else. For slides, or more likely during airtime, I really want a dropkick. At least a foot sweeping animation for the sliding tackle they already have in game.

I don't know, I fell in love with FEAR's style of melee combat. The sliding should be equal to the move of sprint but degrade quickly as a quick burst option to evade coming fire. In which case, unlike FEAR2, I hope the hit boxes adjust properly so that you can actually evade fire. The only problem in MP is people spamming it with melee attacks just to keep you down and kill you while you're trying to recover. But unsure how best to address that concern, a downtime duration may help (like preventing a person from sliding too much) but not sure if that's possible with SMART since we wont know how it actually works at the coding level until it's out.
