Brotherhood of Steel is going to surprise a few

Maybe there'll be a Forced Aging device that would allow you to turn a child into an advlt and then subsequently kill the advlt - thus satisfying the no-killing-children thing and the only-one-can't-be-killed thing.

I always hate that crap about not killing kids. Stupid people putting hand cuffs on the gaming industry. Games do not kill people for chirst sake.

I think the only person you can't kill is Mr. House who lives in the Lucky 38.

They said kids still aren't kill-able. Think it's the one and only kid in Nevada?

Then why are they giving kids some really nice clothes? I'm jealous.

I want to see some friendly Enclave and evil Brotherhood of Steel.

Most likely. You can't even touch the guy for who knows how long so you won't be able to pop him until you get in there.

I believe the BOS is playing a very minor role, like in FO2. I think someone confirmed that they will be more like the DC Brotherhood than West Coast Brotherhood.

Based on what I've read in numerous previews, the bos are basically going to be the ncr's beaten lap-dog. They lost an important battle to the ncr, and they will be (at least the New Vegas branch) working for the local ncr.

Both of them are basically losers in the battle. NCR barely beat them so their numbers are low and they're getting beat by a bunch of guys in skirts because of that.

Hah. Friendly Enclave. That's rich. You obviously do not understand their mission statement. They think anyone living out in the Wastes is a mutant, and therefore worthy of extermination to make way for a "Pure racE", whereas the BOS are there to catalogue, record, and try to salvage as much Pre-War technology as possible.

Bingo. You would have a massive black hole in the FO Universe if you had nice Enclave. The Enclave and the BoS are similar because they are descendants of people of upper class backgrounds. The Enclave are the descendants of politicians and bureaucrats, the BoS are descendants of military leaders. The Enclave shares the upper class aspirations of a pure society, free from all the moron masses they've plundered and killed. Btw, not very far from real life, you can buy a 1.2 billion share in your own Enclave-esque sanctuary.

http://www.alternet.org/story/147058/

The difference in outlook reflects in their mission. The Enclave wants to eradicate anyone who is not "pure", which means anyone not a member of the BoS, Enclave, or born in a Vault. In FO:III, your character isn't born in a vault, so you'd die too if the Enclave had their way. The BoS is only concerned with technology, and really only with war technology. There are repeated disparaging references to other forms of knowledge in the game, so you can see the military oligarchy mindset.

From the West Coast, the BoS holds more true to the military aristocracy background, not letting in outsiders, (like Lyons), and looting anywhere they can to get their hands on tech. From what the story so far has been surmised, as everyone on this thread commented, this decision ruined the BoS because they found themselves in a war of attrition where they were constantly losing people they could not replenish. How humiliating.

None of that storyline has been confirmed so everyone here is speculating, but we can all speculate. :fallout:

That's actually an excellent summary.

Lets not forget the...Well, I call it Cannon...Midwest Brotherhood, who welcomes outsiders to replenish their numbers (like they can afford to be stingy with the threats they face)...and then you have Lyons's collective, who are more focused on dealing with a seemingly endless Super Mutant threat.
Also, I do believe in FO3, the Scribes themselves came in different factions relating to different tech, The Order of the Swords being for War Tech, the Order of the Feather being for knowledge...I may have the names wrong, but you get the point.

I think the Midwest Brotherhood is non-canonical and it's debatable because they're a splinter faction even in that storyline, essentially like Lyons they're outside of the main Brotherhood ideology. The point with the tech is still basically true, I mean the only copy of real literature is from the ghoul in Underworld where you get Paradise Lost. They have a minor detachment at the Arlington Library to sweep the area, and they get creamed if you don't help them with the Raiders. The impression that I got was that while tech salvage and development of new tech was critical, they really aren't all that keen on their non-war department, all of their members have to enlist you to do everything for them.

I have not played the original 3/4, but will be getting them soon. Honestly because much of the original team is making new vegas, I can't wait for any and all surprises they have coming. I do agree though that the Brotherhood of steel should be very wicked, specially being closer to home than they were in 3. Meaning they would probly be better equipped, and hopefully whatever they carry is unique to them, and you won't find it later in a toolbox in a sewer.

Well, let's be honest...games like Fallout will always suffer from the fact that you are playing the most important person to the history of the area, the Main Character. Of course they need you. Nothing happens in these games without your involvement.

Does it count as "unkillable" if you never get the opportunity to kill it? In the sense that you never get the chance to shoot at it?
Like in Bioshock where people talk to you through windows that cant be broken.

noo there hardly even a character and there kill-able just cant reach them

I tended to side with the BoS in Fallout 3, so I'm looking forward to seeing them being the mean guys around... Might end up siding with them anyway. I'll at least help them take Hoover Dam. :D

Because of extreme fail. It's a little late to speculate on known things.

Yeah, fairly pointless to bring back a topic speculating about something that is going to be in the game after the game is released.
