Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth was published by Bethesda a few years back, seems they just merged it's forums into the gamesas forums. You can learn more about the game at it's official site:

It's a pretty cool game, if not a bit buggy on new machines.

I do hope that the appearance of this forum here means that a sequel is in the works..
Dark Corners of the Earth was a very neat game.

I was really excited about it, before release. I saw a one-page Game Informer ad for it, and reserved it at Gamestop. I was waiting like a year and a half to two years for it. It wasn't so bad, I was just expecting more.
Initially you were supposed to be able to inspect your bodily injuries by using a mirror, but all that was axed. I guess that's why there's a large mirror on the wall for the first part of the game.

Surely Bethesda is loaded with more cash than they know what to do with. Right? :hubbahubba:

Maybe. I think Bethesda still has the rights to the game etc. I saw the design document for the sequel "Beyond the Mountains of Madness" and it was looking to be an EXCELLENT game. The Destiny's End Developer DVD showed a lot of cool promises for Destiny's End too.

Also Lycan, are you a DeviantART user by any chance?

Fighting the Flying Polyps is one of the most harrowing, unsettling gaming experiences I ever had. In fact, the entire game was.

Don't play on Vista, though. There's a game stopping bug on that OS that never got fixed.

Pssh. I haven't gotten to the polyps yet, but the friggin'
Spoiler
Shoggoth chase in the refinery
had me screaming hysterically at my character to run faster and not look back, as though it would make a difference. That is the only time in my entire life I've actually tried to talk to my video game...

Yeah Jack tends to move more at a sluggish jog than an actual run in the game.

A short story written by H.P. Lovecraft in 1926, published in Weird Tales in 1928.

You might find http://www.eat-sleep-game.com/news/2009/02/16/rebel-fm-game-club-call-of-cthulu-episode-1-02162009/ interesting if you haven't listened to these before. Across three episodes they played through the game and discussed it.

Yeah, the quest "A Shadow Over Hackdirt" was an homage to the Lovecraft mythos that included the Cthulhu and was shared by the other wirters in Lovercraft's "circle" at the time. Other authors spelled it with an "k" as in the Metalica song "Call of the Kthulhu" , an instrumental from Ride the Lightning.

Indeed, those who have visited Hackdirt in Oblivion will find that the inhabitants of Innsmouth are equally happy to see you. Have a good night sleep!

So I never played this game but a friend of mine did and it sounds interesting enough that I would try it out when it?d be cheaper on Steam. But in this thread it?s stated that there?s a gamestopping bug with Vista and so I want to know, if anybody played it with Win7 64bit and if you?ve played it, did it work? Because I won?t buy a game that I can?t finish.

There are ways around the bug using savegames or cheats (assuming it happens to you). I played it with no problems, not one.

Ok, so in case it happens there are workarounds, good to know. So Bethesda: make a Steam weekend sale and sell the game for 75% off and I?m going to buy it ;).
