A call to the wolfpack #7

Post » Tue Jun 26, 2012 9:40 am

So, as of today, does anyone use the Cursed Ring of Hircine to RP forced transformations? (which may or may not be implemented in DG?)

No I went for the cured ring and the armor. I really didn't want to wolf out in the middle of town at the time.

used to. about the 30th time of getting ganked by town gaurds before i could finish changing i completed the quest. couldn't figure out why i couldn't use beast form again :wallbash: so took the Savior's hide instead of the Ring. It wasn't until my second wolf that i figured out how to get BOTH and how the dang ring worked.

Yep, took me like 2 weeks before I figured it out.

I honestly don't want there to be forced lunar transformations unless you, by choice, wear something or do something that does it to you. It's great for role players, but that can break the gameplay for a lot of us who don't role play someone struggling to contain the beast inside them. Also, according to the official strategy guide, the strain you get from the companions is not affected by the waxing or waning of the moon.

I kind of flip flop, depends on my mood I suppose. Most of the time I only change when there's a full moon but then there's times where the hunt and the blood lust are too great and I give into the animal inside

Well, not going into how many things are wrong in the strategy guide.
This is true. It annoys me that you can hardly get a decent guide anymore. Every guide I've seen in the past few years has always had more than a couple of things wrong.

Daggerfall werewolves could change as will once a day, too.

It's ironic but the boosted health and stamina we're gonna get will make beast form even more viable for those mage-wolves amung us. And make switching over to take advantage of the massive melee power a valid strategy :D

Well, not going into how many things are wrong in the strategy guide. But yes, due to a pact that a harbinger of the Companions made with the Glenmoril coven a century or so ago. There is an item: the Cursed Ring of Hircine, which you get in a quest and you may keep it via a method I detail above.

A shame, since we have lunar steel weapons with lunar mechanics already ingame.

Going a little off topic here, but I have yet to figure out how the lunar forge works. I have waited right there next to it for 3 months trying every time there was a full moon, I have also heard that the moon light needs to be in a certain spot as you forge your weapons butt still it doesn't work

Enchanting. Get a sword, disenchant it. Enchant a new weapon.

Leave it here because the Dawnguard forum will be overrun with spoilers even if they are not supposed to post spoiler there.

Carrots? Your thread, your decision.

@BS if you think we're speculating too much and it should be moved, you are the mod.

I don't use guides any more just for that reason. I've been informed to not trust Wiki too much as well, so I try and take note and or mental notes on as much as I can. I have a small book I wrote ( for myself ) with ingredients for potions, perk sets for different play styles etc...etc... right up to how to exploit the game for a Lv.81 in two hours. But I'm a bit of a nerd when it come to :tes:

Daggerfall werewolves could change as will once a day, too.

Never played Daggerfall, I didn't start playing TES until Morrowind and even then I never got any expansions for it. Oblivion and now Skyrim have been the BIG ones for me, in other words I've nerded out more so for the two of them.

I know that silly, but your spose to be able to forge weapons at the lunar forge with the enchantment already on it.

Daggerfall's werewolves were the best, they had monthly forced transformations when the moons were full, but any other day they could transform at will once. Morrowind's werewolves, introduced in Bloodmoon, shouldn't really count since they were super wolves because of the Bloodmoon effect which also made them change every night. And then finally there is Skyrim's werewolves which are a complete fail. Oblivion did not have werewolves for some reason.

Couple of stuff, fairly new to actually playing as a werewolf. I got werewolf for all my characters, but stopped using it and decided to make a PC especially for Dawngaurd.

So, I recently made a Mage-Wolf character and I had a few questions. I didn't really want to level up normally because of my lack of time to, so I used the Oghma. But, my real question is about Alteration. Say I were to use the armor spells while perked in Mage Armor as well as wearing armor. When I transform into a wolf, will I get the unarmorerd bonus, even though untransformed I'm wearing armor?

Also, what do you guys do about transforming in a large-scale battle? I don't always go into a battle as a Werewolf, i use it mainly as travel until it gets a boost from the tree.

And finally, haha, which totems do you use and why? I like the idea of the brotherhood, but I understand the roar is incredibly useful.

Thanks and I can't wait to truely wolf it up, or whatever these kids are saying nowadays

It would be nice to have both options. The Companions strain for those who wan to go all Van Helsing, and wild werewolves to spread the normal version. But I knda do it myself as it stands now.

  • Undress before you transform, then cast it.
  • Do it, but be wary
  • Fear, because I hardly ever finish the (spoiler) questline; Blood because, well, it's useful.

I would say yes you do get the unarmored bonus because in wolf form you are not wearing any armor. I would do what Cybrwulf1201 said

I would not suggest transforming in the middle of a battle unless you are hiding behind something, otherwise be prepared to be destroyed.

I suggest just sticking to the totem of fear since you can keep enemies off you and attack them while they run away. The totem of brotherhood, I find, is useless the spirit wolves go down in one hit.

I don't know if it some kind of bug, but I think every content that include lunar or moon in skyrim doesn't work properly.
As you may know, we should get power 'Power of the moon rising' when moon is out.
But we never get that power, because of that kind of bug.

Alright, thanks! I'll be trying those suggestions out once I finish up getting my armor and spells together.

Damn, I was hoping to amass an army consisting only of animals/summons. 2 Atronachs, that dog, the new horse and then the 2 wolf spirits. Form my own pack, you know?

Oh well.
