Can anybody think of an open world game with better graphics

Post » Mon Aug 15, 2011 7:00 am

After looking at the some of the character screens, the outside enviroments in the background look so beautiful...

And of course "best" is debatable, so send a link if you think you have a contender.

There aren't any. Skyrim is in a league of its own.

Assassins Creed, Red Dead Redemption, ARMA II, Mass Effect, etc

(note: not every aspect is better in the games listed)

Mass Effect is not open world in the same vein as Skyrim, or those other games you mentioned. Mass Effect has average graphics at best anyways.

I haven't played any of the Mass Effect games. Aren't they open-world to some extent?

They certainly aren't bad either. Got another game to contend, spit it out.

Well Technically any open world game is better than Skyrim seeing how it's not even out yet and non of us have even played Skyrim yet  It could wind up having another reference bug killing your game 30 hrs in or so, making it the worst open world game of all time or not.

PS: Risen is awful!

I played both and i'd put them in the linear category way before I would consider them open world.

Red Dead Redemption has great graphics.

And Assassin's Creed is ALMOST open world (or is it completely? I forget), the cities are pretty huge and I'd say it's far better optimised than Skyrim, just looking at all they are able to render on screen at a time (even taking AI into account). Though I heard they have a team of about 450 so it's little surprise it's so well optimised.

I guess Far Cry 3 which IS a fully open game world could be a contender and it is very big too, supposedly 10 time bigger than Far cry 2.

I don't care however cause I find Skyrim graphics great and it's the atmosphere and environment and feeling you get when you play it that makes it special.

Define: "better"

Technically? Art Style? What?

Technically Crysis still probably tops it, Just Cause 2 comes pretty darn close to it. It's also a whole 'nother ball game if we're just doing screenshots vs. actual game in motion.

Regardless, Skyrim is pretty damn incredible, and its lower res textures in some areas (and this might just be console limitations on the screenshots) are among the first things modded for us PC users, so...joy! :)

i'd say assassins creed is more on par than "better" in terms of graphics. and the only thing red dead has going for it to compete with skyrim in terms of presentation are the character models.

GTA IV? I lol'd

This is that funniest thing about people complaining about Skyrim's graphics being "sub-par" according to so many people. Any of the games with equal graphics aren't open world, incredibly customizable, rpg's, or even fantasy. Or good.
