Can't Fast travel ?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 1:25 am

HI guys been playing pretty consistent with no problems but now at level 16 I joined the dark brotherhood and just received my first contract and when selecting to fast travel it just stays loading on the load screen and doesn't send me to the destination ? Any fix to this kind of annoying when your so engrossed into the game and can't play because of some stupid bug :(

Yes seems to be only when I get near Markarth to do the first contract Astrid gives me. I tried going on foot and traveling there but everytime I get near Markarth the game freezes so neither works. Also tried reloading under different saves and still can't continue.

Copy your Skyrim.ini SkyrimPrefs.ini & RendererInfo.txt to a safe location. Then, delete the originals and hit the Launcher to generate new ones.

If your game still freezes, check your mods for incompatibilities.

Anyone else encounter this problem :(

I encountered this problem with the Whiterun Hold territory. Ended up putting my saves in a backup folder, then I uninstalled and reinstalled Skyrim. Afterward I was able to put my backed up sve file into the Saves folder and load my save file and go to/fast travel to the offending area. May have had texture files corrupted or something that the fresh install fixed, don't know the technical details, but I do know that worked for me.

Bram

You can tell Steam to perform a "Verify integrity of game cache" on Skyrim and have the same result. Faster than reinstalling.

I don't remember problems in Markarth, even before the first patch rolled out... Anyway, make sure Steam verifies your game's integrity and that it's properly been patched to the latest version (1.4.21.04).

Oh btw: keep it down. You almost sound like someone who has an illegal copy of a game and demands support he hasn't paid for ;)

LOL forgot to include the part where I dragged my ass in the pouring rain to my nearest gamestop to buy the game. Now I want my support dammit lol I will check with steam to see if they can verify the integrity I don't think I have the 1.4 patch that was released thought that was still in beta....

Right-click on Skyrim, as it's being listed on Steam's "Library" tab. Click on "Properties", go to "Local Files", then select "Verify Integrity of Game Cache". It should be done in about 5 minutes and after that it'll download whatever is missing

it was a free download with the patch 1.4 so make sure it isn't turned on that could be causing your issue. It has a few missing (purple textures etc.) so I opted to keep it off for the time being. Are you using any mods? What version of the game did you start this character at? I ask because my first character is so borked that I ditched him. I have one that I started at 1.3 and another I started at 1.4. Also whenever a patch comes out I tend to uninstall the game clean my registry and then reinstall it. Maybe not necessary but seems to work for me.

Hmmm where can I look to verify if I have the 1.4 patch and where to deselect the hd texture pack if I have it on ? I bought the game a month ago so im pretty sure I started the game on 1.3. I checked steam and it's set to automatic whenever any updates avail....So maybe im on 1.4 and never noticed it since it automatically updates ? But why would the texture map only effect me traveling to Markarth to do that quest and not effect me doing the others ? Really weird. No mods installed either.....

He's obviously not running any mods, if the only thing on his data tab is skyrim.esm...

Red, load the last save and save again to a new save. Then, restart the game and try the same thing with the new save.

I know I said the same thing above, but, you didn't -by any chance- touch anything in Skyrim.ini or SkyrimPrefs.ini, did you?

*As for how to see what version you're running, start the game up, load a save, press escape and at the bottom left corner of the popup window, you'll see your game's version

Ok I will try that out I checked and im on version 1.4 already. Atkara earlier I copied my pref and text settings and deleted the originals and reloaded skyrim but that didn't help it just reset my video settings back to default...

I tried this first and it didn't work, that's why I ended up doing the uninstall/reinstall to fix the issue. C'est la vie! Hope you get your working Red.
