Can we get an adventure and not a puzzlefest?

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 6:19 pm

Like I said...if you guys enjoy playing Zelda I guess this is the new generation. Give me an unbeatable boss at the end or a door that kills you with spikes....I don't want to play match a picture to get to the end of the dungeon.

I played Everquest at release and it was plenty tough without stupid puzzles. I guess this is what you guys are used to now though. Have fun!

I had this discussion with a friend just yesterday. He hated Arkham City, and I thought it was a masterpiece. I will tell you the same thing I told him. Your experience is unique. That svcks, wish you enjoyed it. That's it.

Could be the OP is like many CoD players who just want to be pointed to the next creature so they can bash it. No story, no role-play, just mindless action. Sadly it seems Bethesda did a lot to cater to this crowd more than any other when making Skyrim.

Thank the nine, it seems like they tried to repair some of the easyness of vanilla skyrim in this.

I enjoye that they added puzzles where you actually have to think for half a second.

The puzzles that are in Dawnguard, and there are not that many, are pretty damn simple. So, if your having a tough time solving them the problem may lie with you.

Here are the puzzles I found: press the A button on pillars that automatically move to the correct position.

Shoot a spell at a target.

Look at your map.

Thats it really... Nothing complex about them.

For that matter what is wrong with zelda? :(

It's worth noting the person who started the thread posted in another thread saying they had quit Dawnguard at the first puzzle, where they had to press A a few times. They said they had returned to Gears of War 3 instead.

Yeah, I noticed that post. It was pretty hilarious.

What are you talking about?

Puzzles are making the game worse, or lack of them make the game too easy, or puzzles requiring "deep strategic thinking"? Seriously, what?!

I dunno that I need complex puzzles to increase my gaming experience. It could be fun, sure, but probably also frustrating if you get stuck somewhere because of them. If anywhere, I'd like to see things like that in the Dwemer ruins, but it's not very "Skyrim" to me. I think the ancient stone "puzzles" are very cool and fits very well into the atmosphere. I don't think they're meant to keep people out as such, perhaps they're just there to lure you into a trap (fire, poison darts, spears, etc.) and slow you down more than anything

I recall the standing on stones puzzle in Dragon Age Origins when going to see the urn. I never solved it. After trying for about an hour I just printed off a cheat and never tried again.

Damn that thing was annoying for me it was just trial and error until I got it right, I do love a good puzzle though and the satisfaction of finally solving a tough one can be immense.

Well it ruins my fun....glad they are easy for you...put up a hint guide please because i'm not wasting an hour of my time to figure out how to push this thing in the right order to open this stupid door.

Does it really take you an hour ? you do know the answer to the puzzles is normally staring you in the face ?. I like them the odd puzzle adds to the game I just with you could climb and jump in a tomb raider type style.

Puzzles are a mixed bag to me.

I recall the standing on stones puzzle in Dragon Age Origins when going to see the urn. I never solved it. After trying for about an hour I just printed off a cheat and never tried again.

The flip side of that is the puzzles in Skyrim, which are so easy that it is embarrassing that they are even there. There are a couple that make you read a book, and then there is the one to get the scroll, but the stone spinning ones and key holes are really a joke.

I agree with those points there. Personally, I like a puzzle where I need to study it, perhaps even break out the pencil and paper and figure it out. If they're going to have a puzzle, make it worthwhile.

I've found the ones in Skyrim to be pointless wastes of times. Kind of like riddles with multiple choice answers. What's the point? You don't really need to put much thought into them, and that makes having to go through the motions a bit annoying. They're speed bumps.

OP- just flipping push the pillar to where the flame ends! (if that's what you're referring to). It's not really that hard. Kinda obvious in fact.

I like the part where he said "Bottom line is that I turned off this game for another one."
So, like... He's quitting Skyrim because OPTIONAL content suddenly makes the game bad?
He knows he can just uninstall it, right?

Not the TES series until now.

Just curious, did you play the main quest of Skyrim or any of the side quest of Skyrim or Skyrim in general?

These same puzzles were in the regular game of Skyrim, not just Dawnguard.

I have my problems with Skyrim, the puzzles are one of an extreme few bright points in Skyrim.

I call them extensive locks, puzzle would be going too far. I know I am a bit of a brainiac but are they really that hard for some? I sincerely hope not...

Yes I played the entire game and figured out on my own the precious little cheats such as the Ohgrahm without having to look it up. I have gotten stuck on many of their puzzles because I don't google it everytime, which I don't think you should have to do. I'm glad you all can breeze through them but I find them very frustrating.

The very first quest you go to in the game is simple and not a problem, look at the claw and change the locks, but going through Folgunther is an entirely different matter. That took me hours to figure out.

Complete waste of time for me.

I would like tougher puzzles and not just "ha! Figure out with unlimited time and no consequence!" but more like "ha! Your have two minutes before the [insert deadly device] activates and kills you can you solve the puzzle now! Hahahahahahaha!"

Bottom line is that I turned off this game for another one.

Take it for what you will.

I actually loaded up Morrowind. Enjoy your Dawnguard. Bethesda...take it for what its worth.

Great series but quit dumbing it down.

Hang on a minute... You're complaining about the puzzles in Skyrim (okay, Dawnguard) being too hard, so much so that they caused you to turn off the game... So you go and turn on Morrowind, where people will frequently give you completely the wrong directions to quest locations and such?

Doesn't make sense to me.

I was very very drunk the first time I played Skyrim and had to open the gate in Bleak Falls Barrow (Snake, snake, whale). Because there were three of everything (yay beer!), I had to give up and try something else (tcl - not too drunk to remember that!).

Anyway, my point is beer is good! No wait, my point is the OP might be very very drunk.
