Can't improve the Mace of Molag Bal?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:55 pm

So my smithing is level 100 but I can't improve the mace beyond 'flawless' quality...
Anyone know why?

Not all weapons get the benefits from the perks in smithing line. Though, you can improve it past flawless with Fortify Smithing potions and Enchantments.

IIRC I had the same problem with the Ebony Blade, not sure why though. The only thing I can come up with is maybe the devs didn't want them too overpowered, after all, they're supposed to be more unique than anything.

At least you CAN improve it. So many weapons are bugged and can't be improved.

I have the same problem. Can't get my Molag or Ebony sword behind 70 damage. It says: 'You lack the requirements.'

That weapon is still pretty darn beastly even at vanilla values.

I'm not sure what you mean. How do you know? I wonder why you can't improve silver weapons.

And some benefit from perks you'd least expect. Quite by accident, I discovered yesterday that Savior's Hide benefits from the Ebony perk. Wth? I had to run to UESP to make sure that neither me nor my game were bugged.

100 Smithing does not mean legendary for upper tier weapons. You'll need potions or equipment of fortify smithing to bring ebony quality items to legendary.

That's because alot of the Daedric Artifacts, do not benefit from the "Daedric Smithing" perk, which allows you to improve by double. My Nord Warrior can improve a Daedric Warhammer up to 133 Damage, but can only improve Volendrung up to 108 damage with his current +Smithing gear. Volendrung is alot faster though, and allows me to spam Power Attacks, so i use it instead of the Daedric Warhammer. I was able to improve my Mace of Molag Bal up to like 80 damage with low +Smithing enchants.

MB takes ebony to upgrade. Doesn't it? If I remember correctly, ( and that in itself is a miracle ) you need a Smithing of 300.

That would be 100 base, The Ebony Perk and a total of 100 with Enchants and/or a potion. OR
100 base, 100 with Enchants and 100 w/ a potion.

If you must, abuse restoration alchemy and get it to the point you feel is "just right"

Some weapons are not meant to be improved.
Which is a flaw since it essensially makes many artifacts too weak.

Daedric artifacts and some unique weapons, for some reason only beth knows why, can not be improved passed flawless, not matter the smithing skill and perks.

Any item that can be improved by smithing can reach legendary you just need a little magic.

Prettysure you need Arcane smtihing and either the Ebony or Daedric perk, I forget which. (Or a lot of Fortify Smithing effects to supplant the perks)

You can make them: (wiki)

The following ingredients contain this effect:

this brings up one of my complaints with the game, which is artifacts being outclassed by handcrafted daedric weapons.
