Can a parent charge a 16 year old house rent?

Or....

I could contribute to society by getting a well-respected job and become an accomplished, professional woman?

No? Okay :(

How is making money by sitting with your webcam on not contributing to society?

Actually, forget I asked.

But hey, it brings in the $$$$$$. :P

Yeah, nothing like checking out minors on webcams...

Anyway, the rent thing svcks, especially since it only leaves you 5 pounds to play with. As far as the renter/rentee games, she could also evict you if she wants, so be careful with that. Maybe figure out a lease agreement? Try to work things out before getting mad. As said, it all sounds legal so there isn't much you can do.

EDIT: Hmmm, I seem to have misread something. 25 pounds a day earned. 20 pounds a week rent. [censored]. That's not bad, really.

Not really, not if you stockpile the money.

Besides, there's always going to be someone who wants to watch you sit at a desk and do nothing, no matter how old you are.

I'm an accomplished businesswoman too!

So am I, at the young age of 15!

I wasn't aware there were so many accomplished businesswomen here! They should rename it "Business Girly Stock Forums" or something.

Not the $$$$$$, not the €€€€€€, the ££££££! It's worth more than the other two. :P

Shh, don't tell anyone. :whisper:

Yes, it's true. And that incredibly awesome guy I posted a picture of is actually a guy I have had a total crush on since forever. But I haven't a chance as I'm only 300,000th in line. :(

Oh no, he's far too sophisticated for that... He shows up in person. To everyone's house. At the same time. Much more refined if I do say so myself.

- _ -

I shall learn to read next time.

@OP I am certain if you're still education (holidays still count) that parents should get some form of benefit.

No, they got rid of that for over 16s now.

If you'll be getting 25... Curse my keyboard for not having the Euro symbol...

I would be quite curious if I was you about where that extra 20 Euro a week is going.

 We're not sodding France, you know.

Hello, I'm about to start work in holidays and i'm getting £25 a day and my mother wants to charge me £20 a week to live in my house.
I'm 16 years old is this allowed?

Yeah, it's allowed, if not terribly helpful. My parents did the same thing when I was that age, £10 of my weekly income of £14 from a Saturday job. They also helped themselves to my grant when I went to university (showing my age, I suppose). I think it was quite unusual, but they took the line that if I didn't like it, I was free to live somewhere else.

Edit: wrong amount, I forgot they allowed me to keep four whole pounds for myself.

£25 a day and paying £20 a week isn't that bad.

Ask her where the money is going though. Maybe she'll get you something with it.

As for my opinion, I think it's a bit rude of a mother to charge her child (who she is supposed to provide for) money for a place to live.

I don't think your parents can force you to pay rent at that age. Over here, parents have to pay EVERYTHING for their kids if they kick it out before the age of 21

I don't really like it that it can't be done where you are (as it may be necessary to keep the family aloft), but I think it's pathetic for a parent to depend on a child.
