Can a warrior have fun with the thieves guild?

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 2:39 am

Hi everyone,

As the title suggests, I'm currently playing as a pure melee warrior-type, and I'm wondering whether you all think the thieves guild is still worth completing. I don't want to invest into any thief related skills, and I'm essentially just looking for more fun quests to complete. I'm not into pickpocketing and so on with this character, but I am into killin' mofos!

Try to empathize with a dumb melee brute, and ask yourself whether you'd have fun doing the thieves guild quest line...and then tell me what you think!

Milk Drinker thanks you.

Unless you have sneak a little bit leveled up you'll lose out on all the bonus stuff so..I really dun' know if its worth it.

If you use light armor it's definitely worth it, the nightingale armor is gorgeous in my opinion. I played through it with my warrior and I had fun

Well my character is decidedly not a wearer of light armor.

Yes. I have made two warriors, both of which have done the thieves guild. It's not even that hard, considering there is very little sneaking, because you are only sneaking from the guards, like, once or twice in the entire main quest. Sneaking from bandits doesn't feel challenging, because there is no consiquence to killing them all. As a mild RPer, I can't bring myself to slaughter innocent guards like that, so I always hide in the shadows or, if the game doesn't let me, pay my fine and get out. But bandits, those I just go in and smash their stupid little skulls in.

Anyway, there is a criminal lack of theivery in the theives guild, which makes some people hate it, but still, I enjoyed it.

Sneak skills are useful for the side tasks, but you can hack and slash your way through pretty much all of the main questline without worrying about having the skill set you'd expect. It involves a lot more dungeon crawling than thieving. In fact, the questline contains practically no theft at all. And the story is a total mess with an awe inspiring quantity of plot holes. It's impressively bad.

Oh, and don't worry about wearing light armour. The first time I did it, I think I was wearing steel plate armour through most of the main quest, but I can't remember, it has been a while.

Yes! This fits my character to a T.

And you bring up a good question: Is it possible to use brute force in place of sneakiness when carrying out missions for the thieves guild?

Wait, wut? Theres loads of sneaking in the theifs guild xD. Offcourse it might just be me (doing a couple of "side" quests between every main quest, wanna level up my theifs guild).

I did about 3/4 of the TG missions and there is this one mission where you you have to sneak around a TON of Mercenaries, they're sorta difficult too, or you can go in smashing everyone's face.

Ha! I'll probably start by attempting the latter approach... :gun:

Yes it is possible,You can be a warrior and join college of winterhold. But to be honest :) i dont like to do stuff that dont fit my character. But Go for it if you want. Some quests in thieves guild forces you to pickpocket and stuff but. You can be a warrior,

Only the radiant quests at the end of the guild have pickpocketing and sneak as a requirement. All of the rest of them can be completed with brute force, if that floats yer boat. Even while playing a dumb brute, you could still stay in character pretty well.

And btw Milk Drinker, your avatar and user name are awesome :P

If you want to ruin your contract... yes... But Maven might not be happy with you. Although there is a few missions were brute force is needed

Yes. That is the problem you can be anyone and do anything, warrior can do the Thieve's guild and the college. You can run through the Thieve's Guild hacking and slashing using no sneak. The system needs a serious change in the next instalment IMO.

It was that way in Oblivion too. My guess is that it will probably not change in TES VI.

Yes it is a shame I think. I never really played Morrowind but didn't you have to be good at the skills related to your guild to advance in the ranks?
