Cant play on 360 unless connected to live? WTF?!

You can play Skyrim offline... there use to be a way to delete Obivion cache data during start up by holding certain buttons, maybe this is the same for Skyrim. So when you started the game maybe you accedently deleted the cache.

I was under the same impression, but steam offline mode is pretty screwed up and won't always work.
Is it possible to activate the game and manually patch it? If you can get 1.1 without the DRM patch...

The amount of people who did not understand the OP is hilarious. He tried playing the current version of the game (1.3) on his friend's 360, which did not have any patches at all. So his save was from a later version of the game, so there would be no way that backwards-flying dragon could exist in his friends game. The game save is not compatible. Simple as that.

Not so Gnome, he's stated he used his console at a friends not his friends console.

Thats only the game cache, not the system cache with the patch data.

Correct.

As far as Steam goes, it's their method of DRM. I certainly don't expect Bethesda to be releasing Skyrim without DRM these days.

Nope Bethesda said somewhere that PC users need to have steam to install the game or any future patches, whether they got the game from steam or any other means.

I guess it's the same reason that us PC players have to play the game through steam.
And that reason is... I have no [censored] clue.

Steam has an offline mode.

Hmmm, I couldn't remember if that did delete the patches or just the game data... thanks for clearing that up. Well then either the system cache got corrupted or the OP deleted the system data by accident. Only two things that really make sense... either way Skyrim can be played offline.

Prior to the Steam patch after patch 1.1, it was possible to play Skyrim without Steam after activating your copy.

Steam are looking to go into the console market, so much fun there. :(

I`m too late to join the discussion now, but Steam is bad news because it does not allow choice or freedom. It`s either their way or the highway.

Also it`s no DRM at all except against the honest.

Oh, I never heard of a prior version that didn't require steam, but even then there would be no way to officially patch it from there.

Welcome to the new age of video gaming my friend. Video game companies are becoming real tight ass commies especially pc game companies like this one. They just don’t want you to really own your game, they want to be tethered to it for some reason. Im sure it has something to do with hoarding money, or drm, who cares why any more, it just is.

Blaming this on "commies" is really missing the mark. It's pure capitalism in action. In a communist country, the game would have been owned and distributed by the state... assuming it would have been made in the first place.

I don't know if Xbox has changed some of it's license aggreements or protections, but when we tried to play a new copy of Dead Island on a xbox unattached to the net, it said we were not connected to Xbox live and would not start. We had to run a land line in to get it to start. Once disconnected, it still played, but next day it was the same drill. I mention this because of the possibility Xbox has changed it's rules.

I wish Apple would make a console and do it right, and blow these others away.

The commie thing is wrong, but he`s right about the rest of it.

Also there are a lot of misunderstanding people have about Steam here. Oh well, it`s 3 in the UK and I`m having breakfast so i can`t be bothered to type more on this. My energies are loooow....

The iPlay ~ $1000 SRP for a system with the computing power of a psx.

Sounds about right to me.

I'm not sure what your particular gripe with Xbox is but if it's similar to needing live to play a game like Kibilko, I'm not sure why you think Apple would do a better job.
Seems every company that has anything to do with PCs or the internet are trying too hard to incorporate online aspects, in an exaggerated and limiting way.
