Catalyst 12.2 Avoid

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 4:06 am

The best drivers I've had are the 12.1 and 12.2 preview drivers. It's a shame really that they still haven't released an official driver that works properly.

You notice a difference in 12.1 preview and 12.1 official?

Yea, my pc no longer auto-switches to my HDTV when it's detected lol. Gaming wise, not a thing. Probably going to return to 12.1 preview.

I'm currently running the 12.3beta set [8.960.0] from Feb 28th posted on Guru3D http://downloads.guru3d.com/AMD-Catalyst-12.x--8.96-February-28-download-2867.html

These are working perfectly for me on My HD6950...YMMV

I think the release of these drivers will damage and really hurt AMD's reputation because they released these drivers with some serious errors. The biggest error of them all has to be the version build. 12.3 when the download clearly states 12.2. AA and AF is all over the place, the lag is dreadful and it pixelates like crazy. Reverting back to 12.1.

Here we go then they'll probably cheer you up a little.

I couldn't get them full size because the site I have them on only shows at 75% resolution... Please click on the below link for better viewing. Please be patient it takes about 20 seconds to open the page but they are all full screen and you can read the clouds now.

Ah ok so its not a FPS thing or something like that thanks for the reply.

@ Sybink I lol'd btw do you get screen tearing in DX HR? I didn't used to using 11.11 but I popped it in last night and no matter what setting I use tearing tearing tearing normally when I move the mouse vertically up and down.

Just turn off Skyrim's AA. CatalystCreator had this to say on Twitter: "FYI - Skyrim image corruption (only seen with (Anti-Aliasing) found on certain AMD products will be fixed in Catalyst 12.3"

No reason to even use anything past 12.1 unless you are using 7xxx series or have a crossfire configuration.

I just installed 12.2 release and got the awful flashing blocks all over when ever I had AA enabled and it almost halved my FPS. In Whiterun on 12.2 release with 12.2 CAP1 my FPS was only around 45 by the market and dipped in to the 20's at the top of Dragonsreach, gone back to 12.2 preview with 12.2 CAP1 and im now seeing around 70-80 by the market and 50 at the top of Dragonsreach and can now have AA back on again

System specs would help and dxdiag aside that.....

Create a restore point on your system first.
Go to your downloads and see if you still have the 12.1 installer(if not you may have to google for a download) if you do uninstall the 12.2 (do not restart if it asks you if you want to yet). Use the 12.1 installer to install the 12.1 version. After it installs now restart your computer. Then clean your registry(optional I use CCleaner if you have no idea what this means skip it for now and see if the game works). Stop back if you still have issues.

I was auto-updated to 12.3 today (although the files on disk still say 12.2 - it says 12.3 in Catalyst Control Center), and the problem is still very much there, despite AMD saying it would be fixed in 12.3. I'll be looking into how to get back to 12.1 next.

Dang it, just minutes ago I turned the PC on and AMD Catalyst Update was running! Luckily I realized what was happening and squashed the 12.2 update. :brokencomputer:

v12.1 works fine for me. It's the first (only) one to actually detect both graphic cards, too. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :swear:

Oh dear all of this mucking around. Don't they test.
I don't auto update. I do these thing manually.
I had problem installing one driver whilst installing it. I think it was 11.10. While installing it, you know the monitor goes black then comes back to normal, well with the 11.10 driver it did not come back to normal after the black screen, all I was looking at is vector graphics. All the mucking around I have to do to get my pc back to normal. I thought my graphics card is going to die on me though its 14 months old. I should go to PowerColor to down load them.

With this driver 12.2 (Looks like I going to replace it) I notice little black squares flicker on textures in Mass Effect.
Damn it. AMD you dragging your cards you make down the drain with the drivers you make.

Lucky for I, I don't throw away drivers from experience.

Im still on 11.8 as AMD no longer support HD4850 on X-fire, at least not on my machine, anything newer results in instant bsod.

Well as far as I know the newer drivers are to fix new 7xxx driver issues and the 12.2 works great on plenty of other modern titles but when it comes to Skyrim not the case. AMD auto update is the worst thing to have enabled in your catalyst hands down. They do monthly driver updates so just update them manually as you see fit.

I was having the same pixelated graphics issue, and those screenshots look exactly like I was experiencing. Rolled back from 12.2 to 12.2 preview, and am having the same result, which is wierd because 12.2 preview worked fine for me previously before upgrading. Guess it's back to 21.1

AMD Phenom 3.2 GHZ 6 Core processor
Radeon 6870 GPU 1G RAM
Gigabyte UMD MOBO
16G RAM

Also Anti Ailising and AF sliders were all the way to the left, still no difference for me. First AMD GPU I've bought, too many problems with their chipset. Love their CPU's, too much headache with Skyrim and other games IMO. Guess my next upgrade card will be Nvidia

Sorry, I am hungarian and my English is weak.
I use windows 7 and the AMD Catalyst is refreshed. The texture is awful since this action. How can I solve it, or how can I switch older AMD version ?

Go to AMDs site, support page. Put the info in for your system. When it offers the 12.2 drivers, look to the right, and down. There is a "Previous Driver Versions" or some such link.

Going back to 21.1 fixed the issues from 12.2 but now I have other issues.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/jasonsteele/Game%20Stuff/211reinstall2.jpg (This one comes and goes in different places, and looks exactly the same every time.)

Fire flickers funny now to.

None of these issues arose until 12.2 came along.

I did just get a GPU back from RMA but Skyrim is the only game causing issues so I suspect it's not the GPU.

Thanks for your answer.

12.2 is downloaded and installed, but the current version stayed 12.3 according to my catalyst control center.
I didn't dare remove the complete catalyst. Is it necessary ? There are two choice when the 12-2_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc starting: install or remove.

Same here: Level 53 with my third character and smithing is at level 93 now. (Although I gotta admit I trained the combat skills I didn't use in order to max my level, probably gave me 2-3 levels)

Also I would like it, if they made the smithing skill increase dependant on how often you've smithed an item as well as the value (the recent change). But I don't know if it is possible to add a script like this without SKSE.

On another note: Is patch 1.5 out now? If so, I need to go to offline mode with Steam until the new version of SKSE is out.

I'd recommend a full uninstall. I'd remove it completely. Run the installer/uninstaller and select the "Express Uninstall ALL AMD Software" option at the bottom.

Reboot to Windows and reinstall 12.1 fresh.

Uninstall everything the catalyst will save your settings anyways. When going back to a previous driver as opposed to updating to a new one you have to make sure you clean out everything(with the exception of config settings which will stick).

I found this link on Guru3D alot of people were asking where to get older driver versions. This is the 12.1
