Combat is better in third person

the problem some of you have is in understanding EXACTLY what i wrote.

I asked what his real reasons for 3rd person was. I said some people find 1st person view scary, this is a fact as I`ve seen people post and say why they play 3rd person. I didn`t say you or he found 1st person scary, did I?

1st person view is more immersive, more immediate and much more like being in a real world...

No it isn't, unless in the real world you are a detached entity who cannot independently turn his head without his body, has no feet or arms, and some kind of visual degeneration that has ruined his peripheral vision.

I can respect some people find it more immersive, personally for me it's the opposite.

In third person you do get a better sense of where you are in melee combat; it's easier to tell if you're close enough to hit someone or far enough away to dodge their attacks because you can see where your body is. Also, your whole screen isn't engulfed in flame, essentially blinding you, when you're burned.

First person is much better for ranged fights, though, since in third person you're zoomed furthor away from your target and your own body is blocking your vision.

Contrary to Morrowind and Oblivion, where 3rd person view just didn't work imho, I always tend to play Skyrim in 3rd person view.

I can't fight any other way. I end up swinging at nothing. I only go to first person when I pick stuff up or something...

Melee = Third Person
Bows = First Person (it won't work otherwise)
Offensive Magic = First Person

No cut and dried answer for everything.

Agreed.

I use 1st person for sniping with the bow and for looting out the current area. I found that with melee and first person, i just didn't have very much accuracy. Finally around the third or fourth time of accidentally attacking my allies and getting my !#$%^ handed to me in return, I actually enjoy 3rd person combat much better. I feel I can strategize more for flanking and picking off those pesky archers and wizards in the back.
